Cela.
Zauvek!!

He's so underrated. Let's face it: if Al Unser Jr had been driving the same car as Nigel did in 1994, would he have won 8 races? I doubt it. The Lola was obsolete before Mansell even won the title and he still won it. Doesn't surprise me that Jacques Villeneuve beat Unser the following year despite having only one year of experience. Al is one overrated driver. Why else did he suddenly run to join the IRL....

And Italy. They called him il Leone, The Lion, when he drove for Ferrari. He's held in extra special regard, by the old school fans, because he was the very last driver to be signed by Enzo Ferrari himself. It was a total shame, however, that Enzo died a few weeks later, so never got to see Nigel race in one of his cars

F1 treated him like shit. As soon as he became world Champion. Feckin Alan Prost he was a sneaky bastard never liked him, back stabbing and rotten sneaked in and stole his place.
Also Frank Williams... I used to think he was ok but doing that to Nigel and then Senna's death well... who knows what really happened I just think F1 lost 2 great Driver Mansell and Senna. Their duels was real racing.. not ike todays F1 which bores the shit outta me.

I've always been a big fan because of his honesty. He fell out with the Lotus management once Colin Chapman died as he wouldn't stop trying to improve the car (seems pretty normal to me). Insiders helped him get the reputation on a moaner. Once Senna got into Lotus the car was much improved and the Mansell haters said 'ah well, Senna could drive it much better'. Frank used to be known as 'Wanker Williams' (at least by Ron Dennis) so you have to appreciate they are all money making back stabbers with one or two rare exceptions. I guess what made F1 the exciting thing it was had to be big egos and attitude. If your face didn't fit you would suffer. Mansell rubbed people up the wrong way but Senna did too. Neither driver 'played the game' so for me they were the top two best certainly in the mid 80s to early 90s. No bullshit. I don't even bother now, well I don't do Sky for starters so it would be difficult!

    • @livingbeing1113

Hilarious how the great Alain Prost gets all this hate and reputation based on nothing, or from idiotic rumors and fanboysm.
Should've asked Frank Williams himself maybe why Mansell decided to go in America and not stay with them as world champion.
Prost had nothing to do with it. Unless Mansell was concerned about getting soundly beat again like in Ferrari.

It's too bad his 2nd season sucked but that was because of how the car was. If not for that, he'd at least have a decent season and he'd likely stick around longer with Michael Andretti as his teammate for about 2 years if not more. They'd be kicking ass for sure, I'm sure Michael would be trying to learn from him despite his dad not caring for him (This ironically goes back to the early 80s when Mansell was a rookie in Lotus).

It was interesting that Mansell got all of his wins his rookie year in 1993 and then failed to win again in 1994. Of course, most of this was probably due to the dominance of the Penske PC-23 but Michael Andretti and Jacques VIlleneuve were two non-Penske drivers that were able to win on merit that season.

    • @tom170670
      @tom170670 5 лет назад +7

He did win in '94... Australia GP in Adelaide. During that season, after Senna's death, he was more in negotiations with Bernie and Frank about F1 comeback than in C.A.R.T. racing... Even shuttling between Europe, US and whereever else for races and even more important, to get the right F1 cockpit for 1995...

@bilodef66 ...I don't think us Brits think Nigel was the best in the world but he was certainly an extraordinary driven individual and he is the second most successful British Formula One driver of all time in terms of race wins with 31 victories, and is seventh overall on the Formula One race winners list. He's the only guy to hold both the Formula One title and CART title in the same year.
He might not be the world's greatest but he's an exceptional sportsman.
He's also a scratch golfer and would have probably pursed that further but for his interest in motorsport.

Everyone knows he only lost to Prost because of dirty politics and rigging. Prost spoke fluent Italian and as soon as he suspected Mansell had a faster car, he had them promptly switched. Small wonder why Mansell had so many DNF’s compared to Prost - given equal cars it would go down to the wire. Just look at the finer details - Mansell got 3 poles and 3 fastest laps in 1990 yet 7 retirements in the race. Prost got 0 poles and 2 fastest laps yet only 4 retirements. Mansell was a much faster driver than Prost, matching Senna for outright pace.

F1 was reasonably close CART at this point in terms of design. I mean you look at those cars and they look like F1 cars from the mid to late 80s. So it was a lot easier for CART drivers to switch to F1 and vice versa. I mean you see Mansell going to CART and succeeding but Jacques Villeneuve went to F1 and won the championship in 97 with Juan Pablo Montoya also coming over and instantly was successful as well.
Now, they’re just so different. With such a differing degree in downforce, it probably would be very difficult for an F1 driver to go to Indycar and vice versa.
