This is the opposite of what video games do. Video game can prolong isolation which prevents recovery from depression, but depression comes mostly from social issues or mental illness.

Its hard to see how gaming in and of itself can cause depression unless you become extremely addicted, and even then thats not "gaming" causing the depression, but the absence of video games. It depends on the individual. Every person is different. Some games may be a mask for depression for some people, and for others it's an additional source of fun. Online gaming is huge, I wouldn't say all those people are depressed, but some may be.
