I read that the singers were already known in both countries (Anja even won a talent show in Australia). Imo they are great singers and deserved better, but i guess the songs weren't memorable enough for the public that didn't know them before.
She's Australian and probably already a household name there, however, I don't get why he got saved by Denmark though. He wasn't even worth saving, based on his song's blandness and his vocal performance. And I don't think, he was even known there. This is probably a positive kinda revenge, where they just gave Australia points, bc she's from there, I don't know.
@@in_wino_veritas Denmark has been known to throw votes to relatively vanilla songs in the past, at least in their televote. Doesn’t explain how Azerbaijan arbitrarily saved their bacon this year.
Controversial opinion: LPS got exactly what they deserved - a couple extra days in Italy where they didn't need to worry about rehearsals or press appearances. They got to just be regular kids on holiday for a time, and I love that for them. They are so young, and they can always come back and getting to rep their country at Eurovision is such a big event to start with. More points might have been nice, but I think it's more important that they had fun and got their names out there in the international music industry. Last place or no, people know them now and they can use that to launch their careers if they plan to stick with music. If not, they will always have this.
This year excelled in sloppy camera work, ridiculous directing (image of plastic backstage chair 🙄), bad lighting, broken led screens, messy staging, poor sound, it was utter chaos. Lucky the Mika medley wasn't completely messed up.
I opened this deeply hoping that Finland would not be on this list, but then of course it was ;) (Well, TBH so are nearly all other countries.) The entry 1968 is so good, don't know how it only got 1 point from Norway! So unfair, as is the fate of 1978 entry, it's heartrending if you understand the lyrics :( In 1988, not so unfair though ;D Oh, and Czech Republic 2007 is probably the most underrated ESC entry ever!! (At least in modern times.)
They actually did the Slovakia move in 2010, though, since their results during 2007-2009 was very bad, plus the viewership in Czechia was really low and their broadcaster didn't want to invest much in Eurovision so they withdrew during 2010-2014, it took them 5 years to return and decide to participate regularly since 2015. It's obvious that Czechia can't rely on neighbors because they don't actually close with their neighbors and their closest (and only) ally Slovakia haven't competed since 2013 so it's explained why Czechia flop with the televote whether their song that year was good or not. It's even proved this year that they only got 35 televote points despite being a favorite to the public. The only exception, though, was in 2018 when Mikolas got 215 points from the public.
12:51 Fabrizio ought to have a word with his stylist and choreographer. It looks crap in Athens and looked crap in Copenhagen (Wogan, ofc, suggested slapping the choreographer).
This shows political voting already existed back in the older days. Most of these countries were saved by points from neighbouring countries or, in Belgium's case for example when they got points from Turkey, countries with a big diaspora
Not necessarily political, though. Neighbouring countries' jurors were (much) more likely to understand the lyrics of those songs, giving them an edge similar to that which English-language songs enjoyed for a long time. Also, musical tastes are not rarely regional, even amongst juries.
It’s probably not worth it to update a whole video just to add one more country, but Denmark 2023 can be added to the list because it got six points from just one country, Iceland.
@@JeSuisRene I don't get it. Maybe it got lost in translation. Do you mean we were excluded due to the low rates the year before? It also was in 1997 and 2001. But last place in 1993 wasn't what Barbara Dex deserved.
Thanks God for saving: 🇨🇿 Czech Republic 2022 (Still can't believe that they got only 5 points, and in the Semi-final more than 100. I think Macedonians vote for We are Domi, because Andrea and We are Domi are like best friends, which is amazing. All in all, they deserved much more!) Denmark 🇩🇰 2017 (Stunning voice, good song, I knew it was a jury song, however Anja deserved better.) 🇷🇸 Yugoslavia 1991 (I still think it is only because of the political situation. This song is so underrated, It will be nice to see Slovakia come back!) Cyprus 🇨🇾 1999 (It was one of the favorites to win. Greece didn't participated, so only Greeks from UK I guess voted for her. Maybe the live performance was not the best, but the song is really nice and they deserved better.) 🇦🇺 Australia 2022 (I am not the biggest fan of the song, but still it is still shocking 😳 that Australia got only 2 points. Juries loved the song because of his voice, but songs like Moldova, Spain or Serbia are more attractive for public.) Estonia 🇪🇪 1994 (First song from Estonia at the Grand Final, Greece saved them. Nice song 🎵, such a pity.) Albania 🇦🇱 2022 (I know, the performance is controversial, but we saw much worst songs at the ESC. Greeks have taste. Ronela was Televote qualifier, that is most important!) Azerbaijan 🇦🇿 (Getting 0 points from the public and still qualifying. Unusual for sure. I expected to see Switzerland, Australia and Azerbaijan to flop with the Televoting. They can be happy for Juries saving them, especially Switzerland!) Spain 🇪🇸 2019 (Only 1 point? It was fun performance, still very underrated. It was a strong year and I expected this...) It’s always sad when a song gets 0 points. Some results are totally unfair, some even deserved. Certainly, this should not be a sign that we should give up. The United Kingdom in just one year from last place with 0 points won 2nd place this year because they put a lot of effort. Keeping going is always important!
And when one considers the song it ousted from the final (by juries), Finland's Blackbird... 😭😭😭 If ever there was a year Australia should've stayed in the semi, it was that (2017)!!
People from Azerbaijan thought that they could vote for their own country so they vote for Australia which has the same stage (boring song + male voice + stairs)
Still shocked Anja get just 8 votes...and for 1 country...Australia...and cause she won voice there...they know her was my fav song of 2017...Its true that her live was a flop...at NF she sounded more powerfull...but anyway her voice and the song...
@@Leocadio0608 they got a total of six but it was from multiple different countries. For example one country could gave them one point, another could give them three points and another could give them two but that adds up to six overall as opposed to only getting that six points from a single country, which is the case with the songs in this video.
Albania saving Ireland from nul points in 2007 didn't spare them from the "Eastern barbarians" bag in their ornithological tantrum the next year. Yikes.
No… Morocco receive 7 from Italy, which were correctly attributed in the video. I think the confusion has set in with Turkey in that Morocco gave their (so far only) 12 points to Turkey (…who gave them nothing).

Respect to Albania for saving so many random countries: Malta, Ireland, Switzerland.
Czech Republic 2022 being that low in televote still shock me...
Especially since it did pretty well in its semi! Really shows what a difference opening vs. closing a show does.

Yeah... and we already saw that with Israel in 2017 who finished 3rd in the SF and 22nd (if I remember well) in the final...

Why are you shocked? They performed first in the GF so isn’t it obivous why they got so few points
Maybe her GF performance wasn't as good as in the semi final, maybe the running order could also play a huge part in this, but 5 points are too low.
So happy Morocco was saved! Such a great entry!
Australia and Denmark saved each other in 2017 😮
Cyprus 🇨🇾 1999 - Marlaine - Thanai Erotas deserved a better place! 💔 A very interesting video! Thank you! 🙏 🙂
I am still shock that Czech Republic got the 5 points.
Mika's song from Spain was second most underrated song had ever been in Eurovision behind Turkey's Semiha Yanki
Armenia saved France from a jury 0 this year. The 1 points from Georgia and Azerbaijan were only because of Armenia's points.
Still the votes of 3 countries whether made up or not
God I'm glad I'm from Armenia I'd have heart attack if France got 0 from jury
The vote of 3 countries, but it's still too low.

All fundamental things for a song contest infact

Anja was born in Australia so I guess it helped 😊
