The textbook probably got that idea from one of the many "You can't EVER translate this Japanese word and it's completely unique across every language in the world" claims online. And some Japanese person studying English saw it and thought you actually need to use mottainai in English too.
I've never seen mottainai used in English vocab, but I did recently learn that people use skosh (少し) and that tycoon was originally used to refer to the shogun (大君).
I really like the concept that JP members would try to learn english in order to communicate with EN/ID members better (even though 99% of HoloEN and HOloID seem to talk JP fluently), since this will be a huge bonus for EN speaking fans and viewers.
The book Marine read is not completely wrong, since technically, no English word can be used as Mottainai exact translation, and Yes Japanese have a lot of these kinds of words. (like Syoganai, Moe, etc) but ofc it's not like it's absolutely not untranslatable, since in this context, "It's a shame" like Reinee said is enough for their context.
That is how Marine got motivated to learn English.
WIth textbooks like these her effort will be futile.
@@Hoodspirit Good thing she has a better motivation and a better teacher now *wink wink*
Next week Senchou will be the best English speaker in all of JP just by sheer motivation hahaha
Puyo puyo has proven her motivation... Don't challenge her.
better thank mikochi
Marine: The worst thing she could say is "No"
Reine: Let's do it, but you need to use english the whole time
"Speak to me in Eigo, man that's hot" Reine in another universe.
I didnt expect the captain to concede that easily
Well played Reine, well played LOL!!
i was expecting one of them say "It's a mottainai"
So anyways, a month later, Senchou's English rivals HoloEN's english. Quite respectable honestly.
Senchou will IMMEDIATELY regain my membership if that happens.
That’s a mottainai… 🫤
Lmao Japanese textbooks def hit and miss when it comes to learning English
Marine: If I take a bath with you Reine~
a certain fire chicken somewhere: *YOU LITTLE SH*T*
Marine was so close to achieve greatness
and then Marine speed though 7 English classes

Marine desperately needs a new english teaching text book.
Marine: Jokes on you. I could just keep quiet the whole time. I don't need a voice to get physical
Such a mottainai
And here I was expecting Reine to ask for a shoulder and back massage.
"I'm favourite food fried French potato"
Ahhh maringlish kawaiii
The greatest rewards come with the greatest prices!
Reine's English is really really amazing. Well she's Indonesian right? But still, amazing both EN and JP.
togethaaaaa
Marine at the house cramming English this second.
I've never seen mottainai used in English vocab, but I did recently learn that people use skosh (少し) and that tycoon was originally used to refer to the shogun (大君).
Duolingo Bird : Hahaha.... I'm in danger.....

Marine about to be speaking perfect English next stream
Marine, how did you learn to speak fluent english in one week?
Marine:
