- Stig Pryds is a Danish record holding freediver. He was diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis in 2008, which disabled him so much that he lost his business. After 5 years of intense pain and increasing dependency on drugs, he decided to quit all drugs cold turkey, and find alternative ways to deal with his disease. He began practising yoga daily, changed his diet, and started practising freediving. This caused drastic changes: within months he could walk without a cane, and he could play with his two young daughters again.
It also taught him how good he actually was at freediving; within a year he started setting Danish records. He started traveling the world going to freediving competitions, where the warm weather and sun also improved his condition. He used his increased exposure from the Danish records to tell the story of his recovery and inspire people to live a healthy lifestyle. He started teaching others how to deal with auto-immune disorders.
The downside of his new fame was that the insurance company, who paid his monthly disability check, noticed that he was doing things a healthy person does. Despite the argument that he's only healthy because he can do these travels and trainings, the insurance company threatened to sue him for lying -he'd have to pay back all the disability checks plus a fee. With the help from his doctors Stig managed to convince them his disease is real, just that he manages it well, but the insurance company decided to stop paying him his disability. The stress this whole procedure caused was enormous and Stig relapsed into severe pain.
We shot this video in January, the hardest month for Stig, where he had to figure out how to proceed. We talked about how life can keep dealing you blow after blow, and how you know that you'll be ok anyway. But it still sucks that you have to deal with the blows, and have to go through that uncertainty of what comes next. Stig has decided to focus on his new breathing program, in which he teaches people how to breathe properly to deal with stress and disease, together with yoga and diet. He might not be able to compete much this year, but he's getting back up and doing his best to be of use to others. Find out more about Stig here:

The least they could have done was let you see him break the water & take his first breath. Sick artists like to leave you hanging instead of the crescendo of resolution. Such sadistic artists are not celebrators of life but celebrators of bondage. I'm not interested in that. I've always been into extreme sports but you have to either show the victory in it's fullness or the defeat in it's fullness or you're not an artist that celebrates life & reality but a manipulator & most likely a bully. Not saying the diver had a say in how this was filmed. Based on his bio I doubt that was his doing. It's probably the doing of the photographer. Hopefully the diver never uses that production service again.
PS. After having the dialog you may have noticed I have changed my attitude. I was wrong to have concluded that Daan is guilty of any of the hyperbolic comments above that I made. I should have given him the benefit of the doubt & used a less accusatory style. He explained what really happened & I felt kind of small when I realized he knew what I was talking about and actually agreed with the on factual point I made. I decided not to edit my comments out but to leave them as examples of how not to communicate with an artist about their work.

@@DaanVerhoeven Why post the same video again? That's not a reply.
@@trumpwatch9700 look a bit closer - it's a series of videos Stig and I made together
@@DaanVerhoeven Either you understood what I meant or you didn't. It's not a case of looking closer because what I'm talking about has nothing to do with looking closer.
It's about crescendo in art that has an emotional progression. You decided to destroy rather than celebrate. Therefore I decided to criticize rather than praise. My criticism is as valid a response to your art as any other.
If you make choices to go one way it means you don't get to have it the other. The only thing that should matter to you is whether your art pleases you. Obviously it does so let it do that for you. You're going to get criticism regardless of what you create.
But my post was an observation that was more directed to the person who said they were having nightmares after watching. I recognized why. You didn't resolve your art for the viewer. You gave her no relief.
I recognized that because I too was dissatisfied having been robbed of that breath. I too am a diver. I learned free diving & scuba as a teen ager on Maui.
I've been at the bottom of some deep dives I watched your diver controlling his gasp reflex I related to everything in my body screaming for air while I maintained control - and you never gave me that breath.
For me the ascent from a free dive is all about that breath. In fact the entire dive is coordinated & governed by that first breath.
Playing that down to celebrate the rest of the dive may is art no doubt but it's weird art because it does not celebrate the crescendo, the orgasm, that moment of transformation that cannot be imitated but only authenticated through the experience itself.
Denying that moment to say it's about all the other moments preceding it - I find pretentious - especially since you took us almost to that breath. If actually do achieve that in a series of videos -- it's not working because there's no reference to that in your presentation & I have no motivation to watch others because of what you did to me in this one - with no directions how to watch it properly - if that's in fact the case.
i partially agree with you - in all of those other films i made with Stig in that playlist, i emphasise that moment of first breath after a dive, that relief and exaltation in exhalation and inspiration. The simple reason i didn't in this movie is that the shot where Stig breathes is quite messy: there are a lot of people on the surface of that pool. Plus it's a reverse shot, and i thought it would take too many people out of the moment. It was a difficult choice to cut there, and your argument that it's the wrong choice has some validity. But i didn't want to end with a mess, and i started underwater so i ended underwater. The rest of my films with Stig are not that way - up to you if you want to watch them or not.
I felt unsatisfied because I wanted to see him take a breathe at the surface.
he did - but it was a bit of a messy shot, too many people, so i cut it

I want to include free diving to my life.
Excellent - yes, definitely check it out, it's wonderful
Since I was 6-7 year old, I've taken care of my disabled mother. I'm 24 now and 2 days ago she had a really bad car wreck (T-boned by a car going 60 mph). I still take care of her even it means me sleeping by her bedside for 3 days with almost no sleep to make sure she's okay. On top of this I'm a full time student and worker. I literally live adversity every day. And so do a lot of us. The one thing that gets me through it all, is that no matter how hard is, no matter how inescapable your situation feels, you will make it and see a sunny day if you just keep going. Just remember this: when all of this adversity is hitting you like a train, remember that there is always beauty and greatness in this world, whether in your friends, family, a hobby, or a beautiful view. There is always beauty hiding in the ugliness of life. There is always happiness where darkness swallows us. It's searching for those little things that make life livable. Never stop searching for them.
This is my message to any and all of you struggling right now. I love all of you and I know you all can make it. I know you will find happiness somehow, someway, some day. Keep positive my friends. It's contagious :)
@Daan Verhoeven - This video was one of the main influences that influenced me to keep going when I was at the lowest point in my self-building endeavors. It's reassuring to see someone ambitious aspiring to achieve their dreams as you have. I look forward to all of your future content.

It's a really famous diving place in Poland. Kind of an undersea obstacle course and playground, complete with some rooms that have things like bit stone faces and faux caverns to simulate cave diving.

Just clicked the "show more" button above, and wow Stig has overcome a lot. Thanks for producing this film Daan.
He's remarkable
thank you.. i read the description bcoz of ur comment
A lot of people had to overcome a lot, but they don't make videos about it ;-)
chwaca yeah well that doesn't mean we can't appreciate this man and this video. This man deserves a spotlight and it was a very well made video.
@@Carebear_Pooh Yes you can, I am not saying that you can't.
Aquaman looks a lot different after shaving
Well with his condition, it will affect you from skin to bone.

Sir Berus and all capital makes you cool and edgy hum lil boi
I'm a certified Scuba Diver, I was certified back in 1986 by Scuba Schools International through Scuba Hut in Glen Burnie MD, the deepest dive I've went was 100 ft. at the bottom of a rock quarry where I took my certification, and I can tell you that it's not easy to hold your breath for long periods of time. I used to be able to hold my breath for 3 minutes, and it's crazy to think that a person is able to hold their breath for 25 minutes, which is just insane! I don't know how long this guy can hold his breath for, but I know he held it for a few minutes!
Yay, Maryland! Even basic dive training doesn’t cover 100 ft so that is its own cool point for training/skill. My first time underwater WITH a breathing apparatus I had to stop and calm down, so much respect for these free divers. 💌
I hear your point..
But I don't think it's point of the video. It's not really about how long you can hold your breath, I thinks it's about life trapping people in boxes and using underwater vid and holding his breath to express this.. i.e be brave enough to take a direction away from the normal and you'll breath easier again etc etc.. that's my interpretation 🤷
How could he ascend fron that depth without exhaling? Shouldnt he have blacked out??
God bless your heart/ soul... And those lungs too!!! 🙏
Unless there were some very clean scene transitions where he could’ve gotten air given to him by one of the producers or even the cameraman could’ve been holding a spare tank for him to take a breath when he needed it And with some good editing it could be made to look like nothing has transitioned at all
This is the most beautiful illustration, Thanks.
Thank you too!
This single handedly being my top 3 most favorite and greatest vid on this site
Thank you Gabriella!
Mine too
Absolutely
the real champion is the cameramen that follow him to the bottom😂

Tom Cruise: Hold my Goggles
d. t. Plus there's been people who have held their breath for over 10 minutes.
@@deadrivers2267 David blaine 17 minutes, I think free divers have been 18 plus aswell 😨
I don't know about professional diver. But I do know Bajo tribe people in Indonesia can hold their breath for 13 minutes and can dive down to 70m. And I'm sure there's a lot of other tribe out there that can dive longer than that.
That was funny🤣🤣🤣
Oh I miss that movie

Everyone is talking about holding your breathe and I’m just thinking about how painful it would be sinking that deep that fast
You have to release the pressure by either blowing into your nose or swallowing
It’s not just your sinuses and ears though.
It’s painful beyond about 20m for untrained freedivers. Your lungs and diaphragm start to feel like they’re sticking together because of pressure and you really want to cough. It’s like there’s a cat in your chest that’s tickling and scratching you.
To feel what it’s like, lie down, breath out as much as you can, then hold your breath with what feels like no in your lungs. Finally, get someone to sit on you.
@@Landgraf43 yes but even then surely the massive drop at the last section of the video is too sudden of a drop to equalise at safe levels quick enough, it would surely be too much of a drop to even manage a a single equalisation at them speeds. I’m eager to find out how he managed to pull this off without massive nitrogen levels ruining all of the fun
Beautiful! ruclips.net/video/6CpC9ZN-7X4/видео.html
@@xTwistCinemaThe greatest change in pressure is in the first few metres. From 0-10m, pressure doubles, 10-20m, pressure increases by 1/3, 20-30m = increases by 1/4 and so on. What Daan does here is spectacular, and his cinematography knowledge helps that, but he is a pro freediver.
In the freediving discipline of Variable Weight and No Limits, the athletes get pulled down much faster than just by gravity.
people:How can he hold his breath for so long?!
Me: How can he see underwater without any goggles
@Kylo Ren Doyle not true at all. humans can't see clearly in fresh water either...
@Kylo Ren Doyle fresh or sea water. It's still gonna be blurry, you're not an amphibian😂
@@Notrees you can. espcially in a clear water like that.
@@materoid you stupid?? only Fish and Amphibians have eyes which can correctly refract light underwater...
@@Notrees i know its blurry but you can still easily coordinate your way through water if its clear and since the water is still in that video itll be fairly easy
