THANKS!! I really, really needed this kind of tip, always squeak when changing registers. You helped me a lot today, sir! Thank you! (and also, your work is awesome, my sincere thanks for all of it)
Bro.. You've saved me on those three non-bonus notes.. G,A and B.. it was driving me nuts...no problem now..Also, I'm loving the wax sheets for lip protection... utterly Brilliant. Thanks so much for all your salient advice to we budding Bass players. Blessings from your Hugo Lowenstern pal in Texas.
I hadn't heard of this before when I watched this video yesterday, so I was surprised to notice today, when I was practicing a tricky piece on soprano sax, that I was doing this unconsciously. Thanks for helping me become aware of what I'm doing! That will surely help me as a teacher. Now I'll have to experiment on my clarinet to find out if 'm already doing it there too, or if I have something new to try!
I m so greatfull , greetings and respect from a beginning bs cl player , i always played the sax before . Love and peace from Antwerp , Belgium , Europa
It’s literally my first time playing bass clarinet and I sounded like crap but my band director said I sound better than most beginners. Future Bass clarinet prodigy????
Everytime I'm fed up with the clarinet I shout something like "Who the heck builds these darn things with good conscience? Can't we just all play the sax?"
Hello! I wanted to know what your set up is for playing? I play bass clarinet during the summer with the city band in my town and I need to start saving for a bass of my own plus a better mouth piece. What's something you would recommend
I totally understand. For me, what I found that worked was embouchure. I watched many of these videos, trying out new techniques until I found the right one. Also, another key component is air. Dont be afraid to blow more air just because your going to squeak. Everyone has done it, so just blow and perfect everything else on the way.
I cannot play most of the clarion register on bass above about f without doing it in a scale. I’m a Bb player and I’m figuring out bass mostly on my own as no teachers in my area have bass experience, so everything i know is mainly from my Bb. Currently grade 6 level with decent embouchure on Bb but not really experienced as much as I should have. What tips do you have to help me figure out the clarion register on bass?
Omg a door has been opened. This actually works... and now I’m crying thank you
Better and more useful instruction than band directors or instructors have ever given me

My teacher taught me this and it was very helpful for region music

First. I'm still wearing those glasses from Clarinetfest.
Great tip! Works well on tenorsax to!
. . . And of course, circular breathing! Bravo! A joy to listen to and to learn from!

Well, this video was helpful, also he is so good at playing them bass clarinet
Thank you so much!! I’ve never heard of the head tilt but it looks like it’ll fix some of my biggest problems!!
Huh... that’s the first time I heard about this
Great video! I have learnt to do this somehow naturally and didn't even know it was actually a thing.
Good stuff. I tend to forget about this. Thanks for explaining something we all do but are not always aware of.
Thanks for demonstrating and sharing! It makes a big difference specially when you are told to keep the embouchure and head steady on the Bb clarinet.
brilliant!
thanks

Thanks a mil! This helps a lot in Weber 1 mvt 3
Oh, you studied with Kosti when he was at Eastman. I studied with his father, Irving Neidich ob"m, through HS. And my brother with his mother.
Mike about to go chop so wood lmaooooo
Just in time for my concert tonight... This is much easier than adjusting embrasure on the fly!
good luck at your concert! also cuz this is 14 hours later: you did amazing!
All the brass players just when “what, really?” when you said you really can’t change your embouchure that fast.
But isnt a squeaky stick supposed to squeak?
Everytime I'm fed up with the clarinet I shout something like "Who the heck builds these darn things with good conscience? Can't we just all play the sax?"
;-; not when you have a solo
This also works with saxophone, and trumpet, and trombone!
if i’m still squeaking when i try the head tilt, i’m do i need to push faster air or is it something else?
Do you do the same thing on Bb soprano clarinet?
Georg F yes! It works the same way
Thanks, great, I'll definitely try it !
That's amazing info!
i am trying this next time i practice. i notice that synthetic reed minimise squeaks also
Nice eric dolphy art
Thank you so much!
I'm assuming this would work with both angled necks of a bass
Yep.
@@earspasm thank you. BTW your are like the biggest inspiration to me for bass clarinet. Thank you for posting your videos and doing what you do😁
Love your videos. What chair cushion do you recommend?

I think he has a video on this channel about his setup

How did you get the Black bass clarinet from?
Is your all black bass clarinet still broken
Yes, but it'll be fixed soon!
I just physically can’t play anything above high D sharp that’s right above middle C on bass
What reed size are you using?
I tried a 2.5 and 3 so it might be the combination of the instrument and my embouchure because I’m borrowing my instrument from school

What if you are marching the clarinet?
Can you still do that, or do you have to do something else?
As if you're going to be heard on the field anyway...
xmorgan1123x if all the clarinet section is doing it, then everyone is going to notice. Especially if they have melody
Sorry if you mentioned it in the video, but what book is that?
Classical Studies (edited by H Voxman)
What happened to the big black clari?
Still haven't gotten it fixed. But soon!
My high A, and B on bass clarinet are grunty. Would this help me. Any other tips?
Did you try it? Did it help? Let us know.
Git gud
@@pukalo you don't have to be a jerk about it. Also you should learn some proper English.
@@instrumentguy7574 Ah, so you're not familiar with video game slang.
Does it work on saxophone too?
Try it!
What horn are you using?
Selmer 37 in this video. His Ninja Selmer is a modded 67 Privilege
How did you get that bass clarinet?
Not that one the black one. Can you buy it from anywhere or do you need to make it custom made?
You can buy one from Selmer now. www.selmer.fr/instruinfo.php?page=NEW&famille=SELMER%20CLAR
My bd told me not to do that, yay
is this cheating
Hardly!
Saxophone +clarinet= bass clarinet
