I've owned this watch for several years and wear it regularly. It's a simple watch, but there is something about luxury watches. I can't quite put a finger on it....but it's a solid feeling. Almost heavy, rugged. Dependable. I put it next to my Seikos, which I also like, but this watch just feels solid. I wish I could describe it better. Anyway, I love it
I would the fit and finish on more expensive pieces invariably tends to be superior... the transitions, the sharpness of print, the perfection of manufacture. It all adds up to what a person perceives when they hold it in hand.
Not one to gush about any particular watch, because it’s hard finding perfection. The Ranger is very close. Under the radar, perfect size, proposition and symmetry, a well regulated 2824 that Joe the watch guy can fix for reasonable. Every part of it is quality. Wonderful box crystal, a solid well made crown stem, and although the 2 leather band choices are nice, the metal bracelet is to die for.
Thanks for that Jeffrey... ah is the bracelet especially good? A pity my mate Graeme didn't have that one... I would've loved to have it in hand!
Nah Flixzone sucks!
Recently picked one up and I cannot stop wearing it. Something about this watch... Absolute perfection, it's just so beautiful, wears super nice and has great wrist presence.
Thanks for sharing the thoughts - glad to hear you’re loving it!
Nice review, can I just say that Tudor heavily modified eta 2824 to the point that in my opinion it should be called Tudor 2824 and not eta 2824. There is new balance cock, Triovis fine adjustment mechanism, incabloc shock absorber has been replaced with Kif so a lot of changes to the standard movement found in cheaper watches
Thanks for that - very insightful and good to know the details! I wish Tudor would say so up front, including what grade the base ETA is!
A perfect example of simple yet classy, vintage eloquence. Really luv what Tudor is doing all around.
Wish they would incorporate 24hr time somehow for a feel all field watches should have that feature, but I would gladly live with it😁
Thanks for sharing and keep them coming.
Thanks for that, well said points about this watch and Tudor.
Hey Ivan, I've always liked the ranger, and if you don't have 5k for an explorer 1.......you're right though, a 2824 movement in a 2.5k watch is asking a bit much, but it's a tudor, I love the look and you probably won't get mugged for it:)
Thanks for that Derek... good point about being much less likely to be mugged for this!! :)
movement taken apart and modded by ROLEX, their skill and assembly of movement counts for a lot also.
Derek I was at the AD yesterday to pick up my GMT Tudor. The Ranger was the only watch in their case that popped out at me. I like the larger 41mm case. It’s very easy to read. I’ll be looking to pick up a used one.
Thanks for the review...I love Tudor watches. Great job!
Thanks for that Chris - glad you enjoyed the vid :)
I love the Ranger but I just wish it was a 38mm or less. The dial seems a bit spread out to me but that’s just my opinion. I own three modern Tudors now and would gladly add this if it was smaller with the new slim in house movement.
Thanks for sharing that - fair point about the design and size, I get where you're coming from.
It is a nice one, the one I’d choose if I could afford this watch. The steel bracelet with its open straight ends I think cheapens the watch, while this tobacco leather band enhances it and enriches it, makes it look its best. So does the green camo strap.
Thanks for that - I do think there is a lot of understated class in this model :)
Great review just ordered one with stainless Steel bracelet
Thanks man, hopefully you got it for a good price! :)
I love field watch for day to day use. They are boring in a way but I wear them for myself. On this particular watch I just really don't like the hands. I rarely like the hands on a tudor but on a field watch I would had expected something nicer. The rest is nice and well made but the price is a little step compare to nicer alternatives.
Thanks for that - fair enough thought I think! What kind of hand set would you pick if given a choice?
Excellent review again, Ivan. The reverse buckle on the strap is most likely to avoid snagging on foliage etc. After all, we are talking about a field watch.
Thanks for that Brian! Good insight about the reverse buckle, I've not heard it described like that! :)
Timepieces on a Budget Hello Brian, how are you doing my friend? Will you be releasing any more videos?
G'day Bob. The last watch, a minute repeater, has now come to hand so Oddities & Novelties is at last in prep. Hope you are well, mate.
My goodness a MINUTE REPEATER!! Lucky you mate, I'm gonna have to catch that video!
Timepieces on a Budget A minute repeater wow, looking forward to seeing it. ⌚️⏱👍
Very nice tool watch review.
Certainly Tudor on producing this watch based on their heritage / vintage design qualities is expected no less than of Rolex.
The watch's lense are raised domed since the bezel is shorter / lower in height than the thick lense.
Interesting clasp mechanism design.
The watch's box packaging almost outshine the watch itself by the looks of it.
Thanks for that Thomason! Yeah that box is pretty awesome ain't it! :)
Very nice review, thank you. I can't see where that watch is worth $2500. I've got an Steinhardt Ocean 2 GMT with a magnificent finish and quality and also the same movement (ETA 2824.2) for €420 or au$750. Greetings from Melbourne
Thanks for that - it's a fair enough question isn't it? Much in the design, heritage, name, etc... the intangibles as it were, which not everyone wants to pay for!
Yes your so right
I got a Hamilton field automatic with the ETA 2824 - 2. For $400 us. Lmao . It is a great watch.
@@davidcoleman2463
Does the Hamilton field have a screw down crown? and can it be used as a dive watch.
No mention of the deployant clasp in the shape of the Tudor Shield....?
Sorry, I must've missed that detail...!
Love this watch. Love the low key plain and simple classic design. Reminds me of the early Rolex explorer before they went to applied Arabic numerals but with better water resistance and Sapphire glass instead of the old plastic which always got scratched so easily. I have been toying with buying one but when I went to try one on, I couldn't get my hand the the strap (I do have a 8 1/2" wrist). They did say that they could get me a bigger strap though. So do I go for one of these or a new Oris Pointer date with all the same attributes? Decisions, decisions. Keep up the great video. Perhaps you could get an Oris to do a comparison?
Thanks for that thoughtful comment! That Pointer Date is pretty awesome looking, a 4 hander with date indicator hand! Would love to review it, but at present I do not know anyone who has that piece... if it comes across my hands it will definitely feature on the channel :)
That is exactly where I'm at. Saving for this or the Oris Pointer Date (I'm thinking the 80th Anniversary in bronze). I just don't know.
@@mjbl3974 The exact two pieces I'm leaning on. Did you decide?
I wasn't keen on this model , being more enamoured by the BB however your excellent review has made me seriously reconsider my views . Great video.
Thanks for that bro, really appreciate the positive feedback :)
Very classy watch thanks 👍
Thanks for that James - yeah I think it's one that grows on you slowly :)
Guys, don’t forget that most AD’s will take 20% off the msrp. At $2000, with two straps and a deployant clasp on one, it’s not a bad value for a Tudor any way.
Thanks for that - at $1600 odd I think it's fair enough :)
Actually, I got a really nice canvas woven NATO strap with my Sturmanski commemorative watch.
Oh sure but is it woven by the papal weavers like this one? :)
if i can get it for 1500 Euro used is it good value? At least I will not go down much from there. ETA Movement ok, but that means i do not have to pay 600 Euros for Service like i would with an Explorer 1. I also prefer the Styling of the Tudor over the Explorer but i wish it would also have 39mm (and I am a big Guy) that would better fit its vintage Style.
I'm not sure if that price represents good value... obviously also depends on condition. Good point about the serviceability of an ETA movement compared with in-house!
Rationally I should not like this watch. The movement, the price etc... However I just cannot take it out of my wristwatches grail list. One day, one day..
Haha thanks for sharing that... I guess it's coz it's got some special design features and vintage cues, a real classic watch but yes that price is asking a bit on the high side.
Great review, not too many on RUclips of this watch. Just a correction tho, there is one satin finish on this piece. The satin ring on the bottom of the bezel, almost unnoticeable but a nice touch. 👍🏻
Awesome, thanks for pointing that out, very astute of you! :)
Nice review.
Thanks bro :)
Please bro make a video on NAUTICA watches
Yeah I've written directly to them to collaborate but so far they've not responded... let's see!
Perth WAtch ok fine
Thanks dear
Perth I want to meet you I m your biggest fan
And nice watch
Nice watch, nice review sir +1
Thanks for that man, glad you liked it :)
Wtf. It has a ETA. 2824 -2 in it ? Same as my Hamilton field automatic that was only $400 US. .
It's all relative mate - the Codek Spiral with a well regulated 2824 was going for $125, and might make you feel like you got ripped off.
On the other extreme Breitling, B&M, IWC, and Thomas Prescher are some brands with even more expensive 2824 pieces. Also keep in mind that there are 4 grades of 2824 and the one in your Hamilton is the bottom one.
Paying for the name, history & "heritage". Not worth the money IMHO, but good review, Cheers 👍
Fair enough - thanks for the positive feedback! :)
This watch provides about as good value as a Rolex Explorer 1 when you look at it objectively...
Kinda true although many do put a lot of emphasis on a movement, and the ETA 2824 simply comes short in comparison with the Rolex manufacture... still, there is a big price diff!
2.5k for a 2824? 😳
You betcha!
NOW THAT IS A HANDSOME HOMAGE. I believe it is a Glycine COMBAT 7 homage.
Usually the newer product/company homages the established one, not the other way around.... in this case they are homaging their own heritage ranger... I thought I mentioned that?
DON’T LET THE ‘softness’ fool you - «full thickness of some form» (leather band); you say at 9:38 - NO, LAMINATED THIN LEATHER, that is what they are, certainly this one and in general most of the really soft leather bands. MULTIPLE LAYERS OF THIN makes one thick and soft and plyable band. 1)The SOFTNESS gives it away, and 2)the PAINTED SIDES give it away. I believe I see 5 layers within that band at 9:48, including the thin lining on the inside.
Thanks for the detailed comment Kai... I'm not sure I'm understanding your point properly however. Are you trying to explain why the leather is soft?
I have a hard time desiring a Tudor. They will always be the oxymoronic "cheap" Rolex to me. Ch-olex? Hmmm. Better not hire me for their marketing. :P
But thanks to you and "G" for showing us how the other half lives!
Haha thanks for that... I believe Ariel Adams of the famous A Blog to Watch coined Cholex with his mate John Biggs a few years ago... connotation being China Rolex :)
Ha! Didn't know that. I'd thought of an alternative "Inex-lex" but that sounds more like a laxative than a watch brand name. Guess the Rolex founder did all right in his search for a regal sounding name. Guess my very nice Phoibos got a new nickname. :)
Nice review Ivan. IMO a very boring watch asthetically.
It has this special power of growing on you slowly :)
why are the numbers white
Are they white? What colour should they be?
@@PerthWAtch they look white but on every other ranger they look yellowy green faux patina style
It’s faux patina - I think my white balance was off.
@@PerthWAtch gutted...i much prefer the white
