I seriously doubt that you've caught Betelgeuse in nova. Suspect that apparent flare is caused by atmospheric diffraction and chromatic aberration in your optics. Nice try, but a good astronomical telescope would simply display a pinpoint of light.
These videos are very old, one of the first videos I shot with a telescope. I uploaded them just to keep them as a memory, but they got a lot of views.

It's not a nova, Betelgeuse is just glowing due to optical refraction, that's all.

Since I shot these videos years ago, my telescope's collimation was a bit off at the time.
