Great recap of your build showing what you will do differently.

Thanks! The new table frame is built in the new location already and will work on the plumbing after the holidays. I'll do another video on it as we are completing the updates.

Did you ever try adding a little hydrogen peroxide to a quart of warm water and emptying it into the high end of each film trough? It seems like doing this, or more in bulk with a large watering can would have kept your biofilm buildup to a dull roar, and to have a very dilute mix to rinse your roots every few days is probably the next best thing to freshwater shrimp cleaning the slime off of the roots. I use the shrimp, so I can't really use concentrated fertilizers, but the biofilms in an aquaponics system are uniquely different than in an aquarium. If you have Tilapia, you can feed them the algae mats though.

This is a hydroponic rather than Aquaponic system. We don’t use fish. I looked into the fish aspect before I built this system and felt it added an unnecessary level of complication for my needs. If I was homesteading I’d do the Aquaponics. I live on the coast and selling tilapia here would be nearly impossible due to no demand.

@@harlowecustommicrogreens Thanks for the detailed reply. I don't use hydrogen peroxide in my aquaponics system because it can kill the germs that feed other critters. To my understanding, hydrogen peroxide is a common product for killing germs in the hydroponics and wine/beer industries.
