- Hello viewers, in this video I will explain how I fixed the vibrations in my 1992 BMW 735iL using an unusual solution. The fix was accomplished by installing engine mounts from a diesel BMW E34 5 series.
Not shown in the video is the grinding process on the locating dowel on the diesel engine mount. I used a dremel tool and a file to reduce the size of the dowel. Any tool could be used, as long as the dowel fits in the hole inside the subframe. The surface of the mount must be perfectly flat!
Thanks to Karl32 from the German 7 series forum for posting this solution!

I have the same vibrating issue in my 1992 BMW 735i automatic. Just ordered the mounts, thank you!
I hope it has the same improvement on your car!
@@ClassicBMWFanInQuebec the vibrations at idle have significantly improved. So that’s a big win. But there are still vibrations when driving, especially around 2K. So I will be checking the center bearing of the driveshaft and might as well change the transmission mounts while at it all while referring to the videos you posted about those :) but thanks so much for sharing about these diesel engine mounts and for finding that German thread mentioning those. Would have never crossed my mind!
@@alexanderparakesyan1152 What a great success story! Thanks for sharing!
The other mounts will probably refine the characteristics of the car even more.
Every time I start my car now, I am still amazed that I don't feel the engine vibrating. It's a much more serene experience. Glad it worked for you.
@@ClassicBMWFanInQuebec thank you! Yeah it really shouldn’t have those vibrations. The worst was during a stop light with the foot on the brake and it would vibrate haha. That was annoying and so glad it’s resolved now!
Thanks for the info, I have just recently replaced engine mounts with Lemforder on E34 535i, vibrations were a bit better, but I will definitely try this. Amazing channel, keep it up.
Thank you! I hope that you will manage to improve the vibrations even more on your E34.
Do not have E34/E32 or any BMW, but Watching your channel with an interest. Like the style of your tutorials! Diesel Cars often are equipped with more heavy duty parts compared to the Petrol ones. Same story with Mercedes older models too. Bushings, Anti Roll Bars, and e.t.c.
Thanks for the nice comments Mr. Mercedes-AMG! :D
Indeed it makes sense that a more heavy duty part absorbs more vibrations. It can benefit the gasoline cars too in some applications. It's something I never knew before.
Great piece of detective work. I suspect it’s a combination of some wear within the engine and the softer original but new Oem ones not being able to disguise the vibrations. The compound must be harder so it effectively consumes the shaking more. I will also do this upgrade.
Thank you! That explanation sounds plausible indeed. It's as if the more heavy duty part compensates for the harsher worn M30 engine.
Hi guys, I did this upgrade, but want to let you know that it's not that the locating pin is bigger, it's the ofset on the lower stud on the diesel one is difrent. the diesel one is dead center while the stud on the gasoline one is off center, it's very clear in person, but it you look at the time 4:07 in the video you can also clearly see that. Installing the diesel one will cause the engine mount to sit a bit off on the subfram so for that reason I might go back on OE.
Nice work JF, great video and good to see you in front of the camera :) Sreten has some new competition in the BMW restoration space. Cheers buddy. IvoF
Thanks Ivo! Yeah after making videos for 5 years I figured it might be time to show my face, haha. Sreten can't be touched, but I appreciate the comparison!
As always amazing ❤
Thanks Ahmed!
I love your work so much 😢❤I have a e34 535i and you have helped me soo much thank you so much for your videos 🥺❤️❤️❤️
I'm happy to hear that!
Thank you soooo sooo much. How can I make that work on a 1992 m70 engine 750i?
Thanks! I don't know if the diesel mounts would have a good effect on the 750i. The 750i uses a different part for the engine mounts, compared to the 735i. I can't guarantee that the diesel mounts would be compatible with the alignment of the support arms on the M70 engine. It would have to be tried, ideally with used parts... If you do try it, please report back!
hey man, really need help. dad has a 1986 bmw 735i not iL and he said if i can get it running i can keep it. managed to get all the lights in the car on but it just wont crank or start. was wondering if i should just get a new battery and go from there. was working on it with friends and they think it is a starter motor issue. also heard there was a fuel leak but it still has half fuel in it. was wondering if i should try work on it and get it running or if its just not worth the time/money/effort. love ur content cheers.
Hi! If the car sat for some time, it's almost guaranteed that the battery doesn't have enough power to start the car. Do you have a multimeter? You can check the power of the battery by connecting the leads of the multimeter to the battery posts. If voltage is less than 12 volts the car likely won't start. You can try charging the battery and try starting the car then.
For a regular gasoline e34 should you use this mount or just normal ones
=This solution is more experimental, so it's possible that it could not work for your application. If you want 100% direct fitment I would go with the stock, normal part. But if you feel like trying, go with the diesel mounts.
@@ClassicBMWFanInQuebec thanks how is it hanging in there for the e32? I have one of them as well and will try this for that. Not sure yet about the 34 haha
Hello, have you ever fixed surging idle, I changed everything...
Fuel pump, injectors, idle valve, throttle position, valves adjusted, fuel pressure regulator, and more, it has become little bit better, but still little bit problem with surging idle...
Hi, yes my surging idle is fixed. To be honest though, I'm still wondering what definitely fixed it. I also changed the injectors, distributor cap, rotor, ignition wires, fuel pump, fuel sender, all the intake rubber, vacuum lines, adjusted valves, fuel pressure regulator etc etc. The last thing that I did that could potentially have an effect was to replace the NGK spark plugs that I had installed new, with new Bosch W8R LC+. But I don't know if that fixed it.
Keep persisting and eventually you'll fix it!
Hi will this diesel engine mount fit on M70 engine? Thanks
It's a good question and something I also wonder. If you try it, please report back!
Did you have problems with EDC sistem? If so could you make a video? Thanks in advance
Hi, no because my car isn't equipped with EDC.
I highly doubt that, but do you know if these would work on E28? I have E28 535i 1988 with the M30 and I do have vibrations. I'm suspecting engine mounts and instead of going with stock/oem do you think going with diesel ones might be better?
This is a good question. I'm 99% sure these specific engine mounts wouldn't work on the E28 because the subframe design is different. There were diesel versions of the E28 like the 524d and 524td, but they used a different engine mount design. Your car has the angular engine mount, while the 524d has cylindrical mounts.
I would go on mye28.com and ask around if people successfully used diesel mounts on the 535i. Your vibration issue could be related to something else, too.
@@ClassicBMWFanInQuebecI had a bad O2 sensor and now the vibrations are almost gone, but I'm trying to perfect things (as you do). I know the mounts and subframes are quite different which is quite a pity.
Diesel engines have a lot more vibrations, it's part of how they work. The engine mounts you put on your car are quite more rigid, which is an amazing find, as it will make you engine rock solid.
Thank you for the prompt reply, you are amazing! Keep up the good work!
Hello, how are you? First of all, I have been following you for a long time. Your car is my biggest dream from Turkey. I have never seen such a clean car before. If you are considering selling this model, could you please contact me?
Hi and sorry for taking so long to reply. I have been very busy!
Your compliments are very nice to read. At the moment I don't have any plans to sell the car. Maybe you can find a good E32 near Turkey? I imagine it would be very expensive to ship a car from Canada to Turkey!
