The lightning thing is from the comics, that's one of her powers, electrokinesis. And I felt like it was enough 80s, since ya know... IT IS BASED IN THE 80s, gasp shock etc :0
Think of how clever this is. It's doing what ALL good sequels do: presenting what made the first film work, but in a new way. In the first film, we had a fish out of water and a guide. We do AGAIN, but the roles are reversed. We had a best female friend. We do again, but this time knowing she's going to be Cheetah we know the variation is that this friendship fails and/or is marred by tragedy (if the transformation is unintentional). And a last part--based purely on speculation on my part. We had a villain who actually turned out to be a DIFFERENT more powerful villain. My bet is we get that again. Max Lord is a well known comic book character, but I think he's being amalgamated with another well known Wonder Woman villain. I think the name, in this case, is code. For LORD of the Underworld. AKA Hades. Mirroring Ares from the last film. Hades is the logical character who could bring Steve back. Of course the film may play first with the classic Max Lord notion of mind control, but it would be a red herring.
I'm guessing some kind of ancient artifact that grants wishes brings Steve back and also gives Cheetah her powers is what's going on. Max Lord is also trying to get this power and in the end it must be destroyed and Steve will go back to being dead.
Maxwell Lord's magic ball brings him back, then he takes it back. That is how Steve dies again, infuriates the holy hell out of Wonder Woman aka Diana snaps Maxwell Lord's neck like in the comics. Oh yeah. I solved the enigma. Hallelujah. This WW84 trailer was fiery lit dope. 🙏🌟👑⚡⚡
I'm so hyped!!!! THIS movie was produced by both Petty and Gal!! Can't wait to see Gal and Chris on screen again with their chemistry, Gal said on tweeter that she did most of the actions scenes 🙌🏻🤩
Man I feel maybe a small element of Infinite Crisis could come into play maybe with the Cheetah storyline because Lord will use her as his own personal tool against Wonder Woman. I love the Man out of time aspect with Steve Trevor but I feel Steve appearing in front of Diana says it's Maxwell Lord's handy work. He loves to manipulate and I feel that's what they are kind of teasing. I love the awkwardness of Kristen Wiig's character because it's similar to Michelle Pheiffer's Selina Kyle from Batman Returns. The theme of George Orwell's 1984 novel plays into this Wonder Woman story. The brightness with the color spectrum gives it a nice pop.
You think Diana will snap Maxwell's neck like the comics? I hope he does and then gets reanimated as a Black Lantern in a future "Blackest Night" adaptation.
2020 is coming in hot! January: The Gentlemen February: Birds of Prey March: Mulan April: No Time To Die May: Black Widow June: Wonder Woman 1984 July: Free Guy August: Bill & Ted Face The Music September: October: The King's Man November: The Eternals December: Dune
At 9:41, I agree with ALL of You ! However what you have to remember is that in the ORIGINAL run, Wonder Woman WAS a god. It was later series that made her mortal, to put her in more danger for drama reasons. The first film deffinately went into the original "She's a GOD" theme. After World War 1, the original comics have her NEXT big adventures happening in World War 2. (Hitler Actually joins forces with one of her enemies. I think her name is Shiiiivvvva Maybe ????) But for all the people who said the trailers of the FIRST film looked like a DC attempt at Captain America, THIS, would have them screaming their "Proof" to the point where it hurts the film probably. So I think to set this one in the 80's isn't as much about Nastalgia as you might think. After all, they could always INCLUDE flashback scenes of WWII in the film, to create a segue for a later preseq staring Hitler and Shiva. My favorite part however was the "Lassoing on Lightning" scene. Going back to the OG comics again, among her powers is/was flight. But if the directors just make her jump, it would be boring. REMEMBER, in the trailer here we saw more flashbacks to her training, a time when she didn't know she was a god. So the lassoing/launch scene might just be the way she chooses to get her self up there. Both an act that honors her training, as well as being waaaay more visually interesting. I am Really looking forwords to this.
There is going to be some Cold War stuff there - the desert scenes were clearly set in Afghanistan (with the Soviet military vehicles) and immediately after there were some Phalanx CIWS systems firing, so we may get some ocean naval action as well.
Ride the Lightning like Metallica Wonder Woman! Pedro is my new fave chameleon actor. Cheetah visually is what I'm worried about but all else has me excited.
@Withtheseprovisions OH! I forgot, the New 52 origin change her to be a daughter of Zeus, which they used in Wonder Woman. i totally forgot that. Good call.
@@LatetotheParty Oh, okay, you mean an INDIVIDUAL character movie that has a sequel that's ALSO an individual character movie. The really annoying thing is, that would still be AQUAMAN. Why? Because AQUAMAN is a sequel to JUSTICE LEAGUE which is a sequel to BATMAN v SUPERMAN which is a sequel to MAN OF STEEL--set in the same universe, 18 months after MOS, ergo sequel--so by the transistive property of math, AQUAMAN, an individual character movie is a sequel to MAN OF STEEl, an individual character movie. #MathFTW Just like THE VOYAGE HOME is a sequel to SEARCH FOR SPOCK which is a sequel to WRATH OF KHAN and all of whom are sequels to STAR TREK: THE MOTION PICTURE. A sequel to a sequel is also a sequel to the original movie. #Movie101 O v O \___/ That all said, yes, I agree with your underlying point: it is nice to have the first *direct* individual sequel to an individual movie in the DCEU. WW84 does indeed look awesome. Wonder Woman riding the lightning was amazing, amongst the many amazing lasso tricks she did in the trailer. I'm torn between wondering if she can fly or not because flying would put her on par with Superman but non-flying heroes tend to look more ... cinematic ... doing all kinds of runs, leaps, dives, glides without the backup of flight--like that superleap up and over the flipping tank. I was definitely waiting for the Stranger Things gang to show up in Starcourt. I do think Maxwell's voiceover asking for what you want might be more than marketing hype and related to how Steve has traveled to the future. I do love how tables are turned and now it's Diana guiding Steve in the "modern" world. Why did fannypacks have to go?! They are just so useful! For a brief shining moment, it was socially acceptable for guys to have something akin to a purse to hold your stuff and not just in giant cargo pants pockets or cargo / fishing vests.
