Leopold is not promoting doomerism. He's extrapolated the market / tech trend and is trying to open dialogue in advance for issues that will be real in 10 years. You should tackle his arguments not the person. Stop the ad hominem.
Honestly, arguing against "doomers" (I hate that word) sucks, because they want nothing more than to be wrong, whereas you're staking your hope for the future if you're being intellectually honest and thus open to the idea of being wrong. Additionally, it's very hard to stay rational and keep making good arguments when you feel cornered. It's so much easier to protect your feelings by just not actually trying to engage with the arguments. I think this is why every time someone tries arguing against "doomers", they just sound like idiots (with rare exceptions)
I think Leopold has a reasonable level of concern (at least on the geopolitical aspect of losing AI supremacy to an illiberal society), but I don't think I'd say the same for Toner. I'm a little more suspicious of Sam now, but I still think the coup was uncalled for and a really awful move when there are so many problems in the world that GPT4 level AI is wholly inadequate to solve. Honestly the "AI is good enough, pause & deploy" argument reeks to me of 1st world comfort. Tell that to people suffering from malaria, or working 996 in Guangzhou (or worse in the middle east in Africa). I personally liked Leopold's idea of gaining a decisive advantage over China & then offering to cut them in if they let us tread water at the near-human level for the sake of alignment.
Ai jobloss or doomerism? Maybe. But with swell robotics everywhere, Ai jobloss is the only thing I worry about anymore. Anyone else feel the same? Should we cease Ai?
3:49 Lol where were all the people in early 2022 predicting that we’ll be having intelligent conversations with GPUs? No one was publicly saying that. So if you’re going to keep dismissing that AI is going to continue to rapidly improve from here it seems like you’re not learning the lessons of history. Leopold isn’t some random guy. He worked at OpenAI and had a peek at what is coming next, so to baselessly dismiss him because he’s a “doomer” or has a funny laugh is just low IQ behaviour.
@@scrollop No, not trolling, just not sure where you are looking for the voice feature that was demo'ed. I've got it in my mobile app, but not on the desktop version and no idea about API access. Happy to chat offline if suitable
@@patrickwhite9902 No, you just have the old voice feature. You could test this by asking the AI to speak in a specific tempo and tone, which the old voice mode can't do. The old one is recorded audio -> speech to text -> AI -> text to speech (presumably, possibly slight alterations) whereas the new is just audio -> AI. (Also, its definitely the old mode if it takes more than a second to start responding)
If people had listened to the Doomers in 1912 the Titanic would have carried enough lifeboats.
They then went on to talk about an AI technology that they're worried about.
Great show!!
Fear sells.... Spot on
ICYMI - “Fire up the GPUs boys, we’re doing some catfishing!” 🤣🤣🤣

Mike, you were joking about ordering the pants and wanting MS recall right? Or did the using AI to shop use case finally come true?! 😂
ChatGPT voice? It's there in the mobile app, hit the headphone icon on the right of the message window.
Can't tell if you're trolling. Obviously the old voice was released last year. We are talking about the new voice announced a month ago. Remember?

@@patrickwhite9902 if you have it, make a youtube video demoing it and you have one of the most viral vids ever. You have the old voice mode dude.
@@Alice_Fumo I see, I stand corrected then. Thanks for the info.
Re Leopold: ad hominem attacks lack class Mike. You can do better.
Great podcast, you should create a channel only about news regarding Woke moviment and AI, it will be the hottest topic about AI in the future.
Nice hols lads?
Second 😊
