I Taped My Mouth When Sleeping Every Night for 21 Days

- Does taping your mouth actually make a difference? I tried one of the most popular biohacks that is supposed to help me breath through my nose all night leading to optimal physical and mental health in the day. Will it actually work?
You’re a good part of Saturdays. Thank you for your good content. I’ll make you a fanart
Why did I just read "I`ll make you fart"? Made me laugh so hard of my misread here and im not sure why it did!

@@lmaoded777 oh my gosh!!!!!!!!!😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😅
Where should we post it??
it would be interesting to see a blinded experiment
what I mean is something like the following. You make the change, wear your measuring device, rate your day AND THEN look at the device's score after you have given the rating already. That way you are not influenced by seeing the rating before you start the day (placebo of feeling good bc it says good and feeling bad bc it says it was bad )
it might help but this isn't really how to do a blind experiment. in this case, he knows he has the tape on his mouth, and there's no way to hide that. so there's no way to do this blind.
When I switched over to solely nose breathing, my noise was stuffed. I really struggled, especially at night when it came to sleeping. What helped me was introducing more moisture via a keeping a cup filled with hot water or using a humidifier in the room particularly on chilli winter nights when the air was drier. Anyhow, good luck with your tests
Pov You get a stuffy nose while you sleep with tape on your mouth: 😵
You'll immediately wake up, even when you sleep without tape
@@ldr08eldaradome50 You wake up if your nose is stuffy?? Nah, you just start mouth breathing...
@@i.c.wiener2750 you don't know man, and speak
@@ldr08eldaradome50wrong it is literlly imposible to die from nose breathing if your nose would to get stuffed shortly after not being able to breath your nose would just open up
If you dont belive me the next time your nose gets stufed breath out pintch your nose and hold your breath until it becomes uneareble and youe nose is gona open up its going to get stufed again but as you repeat that proces it will eventually stay opend up
@@ldr08eldaradome50 Do you have a mental disability? The fck do you think happens when your nose is closed?
You body mostly breathes idenpendently. You can control it, but you don't have to.
If you nose gets closed, you start breathing through your mouth. If your mouth gets closed, you start breathing through your nose. You don't have to think about it and you most certainly don't wake up just because your nose gets stuffy.
I suffer from allergies and never woken up just because my nose closes. I just start mouth breathing in my sleep and wake up with a sore throat in the morning.
I’ve taped my mouth most nights starting this year. It’s great! Use 3M medical tape, cut an inch and then half it. Cover your entire mouth with the two pieces. Low cost and no extra material.
Also as I’m watching want to include experience on the nose strips. They can over time stretch out your nose cartilage and causes your nose to collapse without them on. Your nose will open up naturally even if it starts somewhat closed up.
And use hot water to remove mouth tape.
@@JZirn you can hold your breath for a bit to dilate your airways so you can go to sleep most of the time
but when you're sick and have a permanently stuffy nose there's no way around taking the tape off
@@sdfggdfg5fgdfgyeah those hopefully rare rough nights where you’re sick are the nights for nose strips.
This is what I use too !
You just made this Saturday even better. Great video bro
I was hoping you'd try mouth taping. Hooray! Started mouth taping eight years ago. Life changing!
Hey man good vid as always, I want to challenge you to do something for HEARING i mean to clean and learn to hear better like to fight aging ecc. (sorry for my bad English, it’s not my main language)
You can rinse your ears with warm water and an ear syringe. That's about it. Don't do it more than once a month. You shouldn't need to do it more than a few times over a lifetime tho.
Do you think the placebo effect also is at play here?
There have been some studies with sleep trackers that state that you feel bad if the app says you slept bad (even if that data is fake and you slept great) and vice versa
That 100% for sure comes into play
Yes I was thinking this!
So you're saying ppl randomly believe a tracker instead of believing their own word and feelings? Couldn't be me lmao
@@raymondqiu8202 You might be surprised how much of an impact it has on almost everyone.
People can feel great, see they slept bad, and feel worse after that.
@@FocusedLucas I think you should try not checking if your breathing was optimal or not. Going through the day then seeing if the two match up.
Day 38 of asking to do “I spent entire week on weelchair” (i heard its good for arms)
Bro you got 3 million sub.
Get one of the companies that make temperature control beds to seed you one to test out.
Finally watching a video on my laptop instead of my TV. Anyways bro great videos keep up the amazing work!
You should try Bed Jet system for controlling the temperature of your bed. No water, regulating the temperature with air and its quite affordable compared to some water based systems.
Dude the thumbnail has me dying lmaooo
this is so odd because I started this at the same time as you not knowing you were doing it and I always seem to be experimenting with the same things haha.
what did you find? similar to him?
@@heatherstein9576 not a lot for the first 3 days but then as time goes on I'm realising less/no skin problems like blemishes etc. I quite like it actually. I'm gonna keep going longer.
Love you!!! You make my Saturday morning! Interesting! Funny! And Real!!! Thanks for being so dedicated!
PIgmie idk if you have heard of it but there are smart matress covers that pump some sort of a medium (i forgot if it was air of gel) but basically it keeps your matress cool so you have to internally regulate your core making you lose calories and allow you to have better sleep, along with that it syncs up with your sleep cycle and gradually turns the temperature up so you wake up 'naturally' as the sun would make things warm. It is quite pricey so if you could cover it on your channel it would help people make their choice of buying it
I just realised you do mention this at the end! hah i am stupid
I've heard Peter Attia talk about liking Eight Sleep as a cool mattress option--may be worth checking out!
Purple mattress is the best! Very cool sleep!
best thumbnail of the year
Try the eight sleep mattress cover. It tracks a ton of stuff that the oura ring and other watch trackers do. I have one at love it. Your girlfriend would prolly love it to. Also maybe try the Apple Watch ultra
These are wildly expensive though
Expensive + supscription + L + ratio
@@beclops yeah, they are but I’m sure he could afford it and i think it would be interesting to see his take on them.
@@anteodak2965 yeah, it does suck that they made it a subscription but I think it’s worth it especially if you live it a very cold or hot climate/room.

press your tongue to the roof of your mouth and after one year you will breath in your nose easily.
Mewing. Look it up.
Anyone who is not watching ur content is missing out!
I loved the hypothesis at the end. I do all that stuff too. Maybe this, maybe that. You'll figure it out!
Your wife is so REAL! I love her. 🤣
Two things to help: 1) Sleep with your bed (or at a min your head) elevated since if you're flat more stuff and come up into your throat and nose 2) Wear the tape an hour before bed so you're super relaxed and comfortable when you go to bed. This will help you practice keeping your mouth closed throughout the day outside of eating or talking. Breathing through your nose isn't just for sleeping :)
I got a challenge for you 30 days of only compound movement(bench, squat, deadlift, overhead press)
my man is about to get a 8sleep sponsorship
ngl has become one of my go to content to lool for in the weekend.
Mouth-breathers seething RN
Now learn how to sing for 30 days
😂 lol
random question , what camera do you use? love your videos btw
I have a deviated septum and very bad seasonal allergies in spring summer and fall , and I’ve done mouth taping at night and at one point trained myself to become comfortable with it and breath more out of my nose vs my mouth… but then allergies came and since I tape my mouth and I have almost no air flow thru my nostrils and the only way to fall asleep is to take the mouth tape off .
But when I did successfully mouth tape I did feel more refreshed in the morning and less tired , so it definitely works .
Your video is the motivation to get back into it and try taping my mouth again at night even though I’m l pretty stuffy and congested from fall allergies
This is what science looks like
Nice video man! Heres a video idea how about doing oxyflow for 30 days or even 1 week and see how much ur endurance improved and how much air you're taking in.
You should see the Andrew's Huberman videos about morning and nights routine, for sleeping better and having a better and more stable circadian rhythm!
As a 30 something year old work from home person who's into fitness person I find this as highly relatable content lol
You should write/type how you feel upon waking up before taking a look at the app data. Once written/typed, compare it to the app data to see if there's difference.
Love your content man!
Hey pigmie there us a video by jake tran that suggests that protein powder is unhealthy and I would like to see you try and get your protein solely from the actual food you eat for 30 days without extra protein things like protein bars the video is called stop drinking protein powder by the creator jake tran please do a video doing what I suggest big fan of the vids even if you don't try my idea still will continue watching
I bought a cheap decent mattress cooler. Liquid cooled mattress cover, has silicone lines running through it that pumps fan and evaporation cooled water through a pump. Can't live without it now. You can instantly feel it pulling heat from your body. Cost $299, looks like a small square fan with a blanket that has silicone lines run through it. Trust me bro!
Your body needs to drop several degrees to sleep, this helps with that!
What brand did you buy?
My man really making a docuseries into a Eight Sleep ad
We need a collab with you and Brian Johnson!
i love your videos never stop‼️Amazing creator and video, your videos are really educational and I have already implemented some strategies into my daily life such as meditating, better knowledge of working out and carnivore and fruit dieting 🔥🧡
20:52 "i was high last night" LMAOO😂😂 didn't expect you to be cuz you live such a healthy lifestyle
Thank you for sharing , perhaps it was your body temperature changing due to the breathing experiment rather than the room . . . ? did you felt your body produced more nitric oxide and thus felt more oxigenated , any change in your skin complexion . ... ? . .. . Thank you again .... Greetings from Mexico .... .!
I love ur vids, Its feel so relaxing
Do wim hoff breathing exercises for a month.
He kinda has a video about breath work I don't remember if it was wig hoffs method tho it was pretty similar
You know your lady is a keeper if you try this and she can make fun of your night routine with a clean conscience
You need one of those Eight Sleep beds. It is a water cooled/heated bed with an app that controls the temperature during the night and makes the bed warm for you to walke up naturally. Also, look up the best temperature to sleep in. I think it is 65 degrees. I have a temperature gauge right by my bed. Then I can immediately turn on the air conditioning if it is too hot.
i've been doing the taping thing for the past few years because of extensive dental problems from mouth breathing at night. i have pretty bad lifelong asthma and issues with my sinuses (frequent inflammation and so on). horrible air quality in every house i've been in for the past decade. if i sleep without the tape on, my gums swell, i get a sore throat, whole day headache, etc. i've thankfully never suffocated in my sleep, even if my tape is perfectly sealed without any air coming in through my mouth. i'm not gonna recommend it to anyone, but that's my experience.
Been waiting for this video
I’ve taped my mouth for months now but always leave the sides free for off gassing at first as your body gets used to it. You only need a bit of tape in the middle also for safety incase you nose got blocked. Otherwise it’s really good and helped as I was waking with my mouth open.
Nose is a thermostat and air filter. By which a person should use all the time. The mouth is for eating and speaking, not breathing
You have to do breathing trainer for 30 days. Like Bas Ruttens O2 trainer you will be amazed. It trains your belly breathing and your respiratory muscles. I will never stop using mine so amazing
So what you’re saying is YOU AINT NEVA GUNNA STOP using Bas ruttens O2 trainer?
Is it $60?
@@ronburgandy7571 CORRECT. NEVA EVA STOPPIN
@@jimparsons4312 yeah something like that. There are other brands around as well. But I haven't used them. The principle is the same: You breath in against resistance, which trains the respiratory muscles
@@ronburgandy7571 yes, you nailed it NEVA EVA 😂
Try out an 8sleep! Better recording than an oura, better sleep all around, etc. I love mine!
I absolutely love, LOVE my 8sleep. And I agree, the numbers on it are better than my Oura.
Sounds like he may just simply benefit from a CPAP.
I would probably recommend regular saline solution spray wash to cleanse and moisturize nasal cavity before taping the mouth.
The "but you need to focuz....z....z......z..z...z..z" was a good detail lol
You should try this same thing with running. That would be brutal.
Other measurement devices: I use the Whoop. I really really like it but have only tried a Samsung Sport watch for several years prior.
Amazing natural physic
Yoo pigmie could you share the links to the mouth tapes and nose opener tapes?
Do the chilie pad thing, just don't buy 8 sleep. You literally need a subscription for it. And the company is dealing with some issues and whatnot, I just would not recommend them
Single nostril clog may mean you have a deviated septum. Please check with your MD, ENT if you have one. RFA of the turbinates or septoplasty may help. Check with MD.
hit up 8 sleep ....
I'd recommend learning to create suction in your mouth so that when you're, at least, falling asleep, you have a strong sensation that you'll be breathing through your nose all night. The Mewing doctor talks about this in one of his videos.
I did this a few months back for maybe a week and there is a real paranoia about the nose getting blocked up. I kinda remember feeling light headed waking up the next day. I did get over the paranoia but I'm not sure exactly why I stopped the experiment. It would have loved to be able to track my sleep to see if it was making an actual difference.
Temperature controlled bed + nose breathing = Dunk????
You should reach out to eight sleep and get one of their mattress covers and give it a review and test. They collab with alot of youtubers. I'm sure you could get one to test if you reach out. I'd be interested to see what data you get and how it makes you feel.
Day 30 of asking him to try shilajit
Love your videos
Don't get the chilli pro it broke never worked spent 3k on it.. didn't even run....
I switched to the purple bed for my dang.Shoulders? And it's the best thing I think i've ever done.It doesn't keep any heat.. I also sleep on my shoulder so it the best thing in life should be like 8k and also get the hydraulic, lifting and vibrating? It's totally worth it... 3k extra
Awesome Test.
I think EIGHT SLEEP is the way to go for a „cooler“ bed 😅
You should try eight sleep
put your bed sideway next to a window.Your face facing the window, breathe all that fresh air. All that oxygen will make you look younger. No snoring. I did it in tx. Looked younger and healthy.
you should try walking on only your knees for a week
Temp is one thing.... i sleep using a 100% real sheep wool sheet, its 5 cm thick. and that I use already for 10+ years... Its cool in summer and nice in wintertime. i sleep with 18 to 20 C. / 64 / 66 F.... 100% natural. not cheap but Healthy. By the way, the Breath-Bit is an alternative to irritating harsh mouth tape. its perfect and nice to use.
Try the 8 sleep, heating and cooling matress cover. It also does sleep tracking
You make very interesting videos
cant believe you kidnapped BSTCHLD for the thumbnail
Woah I didn’t realise how early I was
Woah no one cares 😅
eight sleep tracking has been pretty damn good for me i can't lie
Yeah I could never do this. Your sinuses swell quite often when laying down, that's why you noticed your nose breathing clear up when you stood up and went to the bathroom. This would give me a panic attack trying to sleep with my mouth taped.
Eight Sleep are the top dog's when it comes to the cooled/heated mattress covers I believe.
good video man
I tape my mouth every night ... its a straight forward thing now, that I've done for 6 months. by the way you dont actually need so much tape - just a thin strip ...
Can you do 500 hindu squats for 7 days and tell the difference
I need you to do a test like this but don't look at the reports until the end and see how you feel each day
8SLEEP foreshadowing
Yeah, I can't do this. When I lay down, my nose instantly gets blocked up. Most of the time, I wake up every hour or 2 because of it. So this sounds like a nightmare to me
Every time I try to tape my mouth at night, I rip it off subconsciously while I’m sleeping
should do this but only look at the recorded results after a week of doing it, so you dont have a potential placebo effect on your day by seeing better results.
I tried tracking my sleep with a Garmin watch, but the results were so far off from what I felt the next day that I stopped (e.g. it would say I had a great sleep but I felt terribly tired and vice versa). I think sleep trackers are a scam; even if they were 100% accurate, what are you gaining??
Just instwll a Mini-Split AC in the bedroom. You can direct the cool air over the bed and get good sleep. Here in Thailand they are cheap to buy and have installed.
23:34 Aura ring is like the modern daily horoscope 😂
Try the whoop, the sleep monitoring is so much better
Great video as always
Anyone with a messed up nose tried this yet? I got a curved nasal septum and 90% of the time either one side is fully blocked or both are. So blocked that I'm convinded that on bad days, I'd literally die if somebody blocked my mouth. However I dont want surgery or laser operations done (yet). With nose strips and spray I can breath fine for 5-8 hours usually. But I dont really want to rely on spray all the time, as that's messing up the nose even more. Just with the strips I can breath a bit, but not always well. So I'm quite afraid of suffocating in my sleep, trying this, because most nights I wake up in a puddle of drool, as I mouth breathed again half of the night, due to my nose being absolutely blocked
Love from india ❤
You should look at the data after you’ve gone through the day to see if it’s all mental ..
