This is undoubtedly the most comprehensive resource that the pros can go to, to keep learning. If your channel had existed when I started music school 15 years ago I doubt I would have gone. Thanks again for all the work you put into this channel.
My guitar teacher when I was a kid (HS) taught me this chord melody style of guitar. Still occasionally play this way (usually bossa nova style). Leo Amitrano - taught more kids in Rhode Island how to play guitar than probably anyone else. His methods and the tunes he played were kind of passe by the late '70s, but I did get a lot out of it. RIP Leo.
Rick I am a 54 year old Irishman who loves to play music. Trumpet, Sax and Electric bass to date (played ordinarily) but I am hunting to get into guitar.......I found you ! I am so happy to have done so ....thanks for your genius. Beato book will be ordered on my next pay check. (15th Feb. greetings from Brisbane Australia.
Such a great theme and really fine playing. Was at a rehearsal today where I so needed this 😂 Thank you Rick for another thoughtful and instructive video 👍
Hey Rick! I’ve always loved your channel. I was at work and heard this song that I thought would be a great addition to your “Why this song rocks!” I probably messed that up but anyway this song rocks. It’s sooooo well composed. Great intro, chorus, outro, tones, and even has the elusive key change! Ready... DOWN AT THE SUNSET GRILL. Thanks 🙏
Great stuff Rick! Fascinating to hear inverted pedals in All the Things You Are (for example), and the way that intros can become outros. Jazzeroos definitely need to watch this!
dude, I feel like some of your videos I need to play over and over and take notes. so much info. Music theory can be intimidating at times. especially since I dont have nearly enough time to practice like I really need to. thanks for putting this content out there!
As a viewer of your videos I really never thought you could play until I heard this video. I have to say that I could not have been so wrong. You have a REALLY NICE SOUND to your play. I knew you knew your theory, but you can play I wish you were playing in the Connecticut area. Great video.
I had this breakthrough today where I didn't feel completely swamped by what you said! Which isn't to say i won't need to go back and listen to it again and practice a lot to get it, but boy is that different than how I usually feel watching one of your videos!
Hey Rick! Love your videos - I think it’d be really cool if you do one in a somewhat similar vain to this one but discussed how to comp for a singer in a duo setting
Watching this in the morning with coffee. Great vid good coffee = even better morning! Thanks :)side note: you have a beautiful gibson acoustic and you blow me away on jazz guitar! ;)
Not-a-pro here. I'm digging into your channel and maaaaan what a great journey! I'm starting to learn music theory at the moment, so obviously I don't understand a lot of concepts, but just by knowing that these stuff exist is a blast by itself. Thank you for your great work, go forth o/
Another Great Vid Rick!!....last few minutes brought to mind John Pizzarelli..( and His Father!)... Also made me think of a comment I heard Randy Bachman make at a Club Gig in Toronto. He was Lucky enough to have Lenny Breau as a neighbor and got to take lessons from him. He was told by Lenny you can Never start a Song with an Outro!!... HE had a Hit with BTO..entitled Lookin Out for Number 1...the Song Starts with an Outro!...lol Anyway, Thank You for Posting!!!
Great stuff, Rick! I’m curious what notes you’re substituting for the poly chords you play with your examples. Do you have a video explaining that for guitar?
Miro Pendev im finding more and more that jazz goes great with metal. Both rely heavily on tension and release. Metal would be so much more rich if metal musicians dipped their toes in jazz
Great video Rick! 🙂👍
