I think the video skipped the step where you need to turn the image into a pixel layer (I was stuck for a little while with a live brush that wouldn't brush lol).
To turn on the pixel layer, select the image layer and tap on the three dots to the right of the layers. Near the bottom of the list, choose Convert to pixel layer. You should now be able to paint using the transparent live brush picking up the color from the photo. Hope this helps anyone else who was stuck.
It was there just brief when he 1st did it the program asked about converting to pixel layer and he clicked yes... hopefully, that helps

I use adobe fresco for all of my illustrations and so far it’s been a great experience.I haven’t upgraded yet but the number of preset brushes are pretty great.What came of as a surprise isthat I have been using the same techniques as on real canvas sheet and the results are similar. Not disappointed at all😍😍

There are a lot of Adobe haters out there (for good reason). I think the $9.99 a month price tag for Adobe Fresco is ludicrous. However you showed here, it can be harnessed to do some great things already. Thank you very much for this. I have an Adobe subscription plan, the only reason I would try out Fresco. Love the live and vector brushes but as a whole it is not a well developed program yet. My wish is Adobe comes down to earth and provides this for a reasonable fee like Procreate. Or Procreate adds live brushes via Procreate 6. But your video is great to think of using Fresco creatively as we now have it. Those live brushes are killer.

I'm a composer with a focus on film and tv music, and I've been wanting to create some film related pieces to have printed on canvas for decorating my music studio. When I saw the preview image, I instantly knew this was the style I wanted to go for. Time to open Fresco and give this a try!

Thanks for the tutorial! I am at the very beginning of doing my research about creating digital oil paintings and which hardware and software to use. If you wanted to stick to the iPad with the Apple pencil would you prefer Adobe Fresco or Procreate?

Very soon, the dogs will be as good as Leonardo was. Art will survive, as always did, but it is getting harder. This is still great, man is doing it, actually half man half machine. Next step is the machines, 100%. I t is all good, no complaint.
I've got a puzzle for you. I hope you can help. I'm writing a graphic memoir and I finished my script, but I am trying to be very time efficient. I wanted to import my dialogue in balloons shapes from Word into Fresco, and then be able to move them around, so I can then do the thumbnail sketches on Fresco, so I can eventually export it to Photoshop & Illustrator to finish the panels, and then into InDesign. Do you think there is a way to do this? Any help is greatly appreciated.

You can double tap the circle (the eraser button) and it will be pure water too
I have been trying to follow your video and for whatever reason, l can't get the watercolor wash soft brush (or any other watercolor brush) to work. I used all the same settings you did in the video and l get nothing. Do you gave any idea where I could be going wrong ?

I can't remove the white background under the "flatten mask part" (9:05).
Neither can I.
Can some one help me please at 9:15 when flatten mask. I do that but my white outline around my figure will not blend into the back ground. I fallowed all the steps but it’s not working.

When I hit the create mask button the background of my image turns red not like yours at all. Is there a setting should change
Wich do you prefer to work with...iPad or Surface dude?
I only have iPad so can't really compare. I tried Surface however and it was also really good. I don't think there is too much difference between them to be honest. What do you think?

Unfortunately the oil brushes don't work for me, only the watercolor brushes. The moment I select an oil brush it crushes :/

Does your image need to be a certain format? my water brush won’t work on my picture. Help 😩
You see the three dots? Click on them and ‘click convert to pixel layer’ Then you should be able to use the watercolor

You have to convert your photo layer to a pixel layer and change the transparency in the color wheel panel, not in the brush panel, otherwise it will not work.

Steps doesn’t work for new version
Fresco must have changed something, because I took a photo and copied your technique and it never came out with just water. I would pick 0% opacity on white and nothing blended like your demo. I’m bummed.
I think you can hold the white button and draw with the same live brush properties but without color
I had the same problem, and had to do some searching to find the solution (thanks Adobe Support Community!). The video skipped the step where you need to turn the image into a pixel layer.

The function is excellent.
But I don't think this is painting.
It's more of a technical tracer.
@Crucibelle Painting is indescribable. Painting is done through painting technique.It's not a painting that's made through tracing.You're going to do the printer and the picture on the bottom? That's ridiculous. It's just more accurate to print.

appeciate your content. but this was an extremely mediocre, digital looking paint conversion. tools seemed fancy did not help you at all. better use Rebelle 2, or just plain ol PS.
Apple in 2060 with drawing be like… wow the digital watercolors are cold and wet and when i draw i dont need paperlike oooooh there is a built in apple pencil in my hands wow my apple pencil charges 1 second wow
