They were very hopeful. Their followers awaited the results with overwhelming enthusiasm. The future of France would finally be in their hands. Thus began the day of July 7th for the National Rally, Marine Le Pen's party.
However, history repeated itself once again. The polls failed once more in predicting the distribution of seats, and Le Pen crashed again against a Macron who, we could say, has stopped being the Sun King to become the French reincarnation of Rocky Balboa: No matter how many hits he takes, in the end, he always prevails in the ring.
So, who will govern #France? Is this really a victory for #Macron? Where does Marine Le Pen stand now? In this video, we will tell you all the details.

To be honest, National Rally did get millions of more votes than any other party. Just because the other parties collaborated to win the most seats, does not mean that support for RN is lesser now than it has been.

the other way to look at it is that the anti-RN vote was millions more than what the RN got. The truth is that a lot of voters in constituencies where their preferred political affiliation was not available for them to vote for, they had to vote against their political conviction just to block the RN. So their anti-RN sentiment was stronger than their political conviction and this speaks volumes.

The highest state authority in France (State Council) has stated Mélenchon's party is left, and Lepen's is far right. The New Popular Front platform is no more radical than that of president Mitterand in 1981. This is all confusing because the "Communists"' here show almost no difference with the Socialists, and have not supported a real communist measure since decades.

      Exactly. My other questions too:
      (1) how is banning those with dual citizenship from having GOVT jobs radical? To my knowledge, the party isn't advocating private sector, just GOVT jobs. Many G20 countries already implement this, especially for positions with security clearance. There can be waivers, always are (especially if you >know< someone).
      (2) didn't the Front used to be far right? Now they're saying the Front is leftist. Confused. Are there multiple fronts? Is there the Back or the Side as well?
      (3) the head of state shouldn't cohabitate or even habitate the govt. Imagine if king Charles or president steinmeier did that. Parliamentary is superior. Yes, France once had it but they were apparently doing it wrong because the best stable democracies around the world are Parliamentary and have the prime minister as the only political leader, even if republics. Semi-presidential us used by Belarus and Russia-shining examples of democracy (sarc).

@PoliticsAndCoffee_1865 That is highly misleading, buddy, and flirts with outright falsehood, buddy. It is misleading because it implies that people of non-French background will no longer be allowed to live in France. In fact that would be true in a tiny minority of cases. In normal cases the usual pathway to French citizenship would remain open; it would simply not be automatic.
Nor is not to grant automatic citizenship to those born to foreigners at all extreme, for such an automatic grant is given in only 22 out of 190+ countries in the world. Japan, for instance, would like to have a word with you.
I don't have all day to improve upon the truth value of your crude assertion, so to help speed things up, here is Perplexity's response to the query _Does the Rassemblement National say that people born in France who are not of French background should be deported?_ :
"Based on the search results provided, there is no indication that the Rassemblement National (RN) explicitly states that French-born people who are not of French background should be deported. However, the party does propose significant changes to French citizenship and immigration policies that would affect people born in France to foreign parents:
      * The RN wants to abolish France's "droit de sol" (jus soli), which currently grants French nationality at 18 to people born on French soil to foreign parents, provided they have lived in France for at least five years since the age of 11.
      * Instead, the RN proposes restricting automatic French nationality by blood, granting it only to people born to at least one French parent.
      * The party aims to impose "very strict conditions" for naturalization, based on guarantees of assimilation, mastery of the French language, and respect for French laws and customs.
      * The RN suggests that naturalized French citizenship could be withdrawn in cases where naturalized citizens commit acts "incompatible with French nationality or prejudicial to the nation's interests".
      * Jordan Bardella, the RN president, has made comments about "French people of foreign origin locked into in repentance and hatred of France," suggesting a distinction between different categories of French citizens based on their origins.
While these proposals do not explicitly call for the deportation of French-born people who are not of French background, they do indicate a desire to restrict access to French citizenship and create distinctions between different categories of French citizens based on their origins. The party's overall stance appears to be focused on significantly reducing immigration and tightening citizenship requirements, rather than explicitly calling for the deportation of French-born individuals without French background."

For information the national assembly were about to vote the dissolution of the government. Macron decided to act first and dissolved it, to avoid a degraded mediatic image in france and internationally and to look like a democrat.
Today, most of the French hate him mainly because of the antidemocratic law he used excessively (49.3) which enabled him to bypass the national assembly.
Also the bi-nationality proposition of Lepen didn't concerned many public jobs but only security/defense/intelligence ones (such as avoiding people owning french and russian passports to access confidential information that could be a security threat to the country).
Lastly, the far left party has indeed the majority of seats in the left coalition, but Melenchon is the most feared politician in France, far ahead of lepen (feared by 73% of French people). It is one of the reason Melechon / his party won't be picked as prime minister.

I have read a lot of news and there's none showing that lfi is the most feared party in France by 73% of the people. Maybe it's from echo chambers. But I'll be willing to read it. Secondly, lfi has not been labelled legally as far right as far as I know, while the Rally national had applied to be relabeled legally as only a right party but had been denied by the courts because of its constitution. This is a party who uses fear mongering against Muslims by saying they are against LGBTQ rights and the minorities while also advocating for policies that are against LGBTQ and the minorities. The controversial policy change you are talking about is nonsensical. Have you forgotten that we have multiple Algiers, and Saharans and many other former french colony citizens? Are they saying they did not deserve work in the French public service? Has they forgotten why they are in the public service? It is extremely clear that this is a racist policy designed to exclude former french colonial citizens from joining the service because of their underlying agenda that is, undeniable even in the present day as their own constitution as determined by a court of law is advocating for a fascist nation. And you could not deny that. Yes, there are some questionable stuff that Jean lec Melenchon had said, but I only can say the Ukrainian thing is wrong. Palestine? We should support Palestine, as many french had shown. And that is the only two things that makes people think he is radical. And he is definitely not anti semite. It must be stressed that cohabitation is a parliamentary RULE in French 5th Republic. Not a written rule, but a strict tradition that stems from political parameters. This 5th Republic is designed to allow the largest parliamentary group to govern (aswell as being destituted if not strong enough). If Macron maintains his government or appoints one from his own camp, he'll be the first president to disavow and disrespect the results of a legislative election, and democracy itself. Macron MUST appoint a PM from the Left coalition. Not doing so is going authoritarian. The coalition required to govern with stability cannot be decided by his minority. We are so concerned and angry here.
For sure it is an obvious flaw of our current constitution, that Macron still has full political powers to disrespect democracy. Mélenchon's France Unbowed Platform is also a protest against just that, aiming for a 6th Republic where democracy is protected from presidential abuses of power. This is why coalitions are not as obvious for us as they are for some other countries. 3 whole conceptions of political society are clashing.

At 7:16 you got it wrong, Les Républicains will not support Macron. In the last 2 years they didn't want to and Macron had to concede a lot in every piece of legislation to have them vote it, every time.
If Macron wants a majority, he needs both Les Républicains and the socialist party (who historically hate one another). But the socialist party is part of the NFP with France Insoumise, the greens and the communist party. Yes in theory they could split and join Macron but they were elected as part of a coalition. Since they nearly went extinct between 2017 and 2022, I don't think they'll risk betraying their supporters, that would be a political suicide.
I think Macron will try and will keep Gabriel Attal his PM for now, but I doubt it will work.
I find it more likely that the NFP allies with the independant left and center candidates and then discusses with Macron's coalition on an individual basis for each law they want to pass.
As for who will be PM, it won't be Mélenchon as for some reason think he's extreme left (you guys calling them that is absurd btw he's a social democrat not a revolutionary) but Olivier Faure of the socialists or someone not part of a party but really popular could succeed.
Btw it would be appreciated if you stopped supporting Macron so publicly and stop the bias associated with that : "Let's not lose faith, things don't look so bad for Macron" Can you be even more explicit in your support?
"No France will not be governed by communists" Well, no since there are no communists in the assembly at all... France Insoumise and the communist party are social democrats, they never had for plan to seize the means of production, abolish private property or nationalize all industries. So stop calling them extreme left. Extreme left is for revolutionary communists, anarchists and libertarian socialists.

Not one "prediction" of the National Rally taking close to a majority of seats did a detailed analysis like you see in the USA with respect to swing states. This wasn't a failure in polling. It was skipping doing the analysis. The National Rally didn't point out this issue because they wanted to get as many votes as possible by an enthusiastic base. The Republican Front - the centrists and left - didn't point out this issue because they wanted to get as many votes as possible from a scared base. The news media - well, they are mainly part of the Republic Front both in domestic sources like France 24 and DW, and BBC. Other sources in Britain presumably went the National Rally fanboy route. Sigh!

Because the moderates, who were favoured systematically, have become so mediocre that the votes go to the extremes.
Prior to 2022 there was always an absolute majority under the 5th republic, exept for the 1986 elections which had proportional voting but elected a strong coalition of 2 parties (centre right UDF and right RPR).
