- Glad to get some Athens up on my channel! Big thanks to the crews out in Temple City, CA. When me and Alex where looking at cities in LA, we stumbled across Temple City, and noticed twice a week service! We knew it was manual. These guys smoke just about any other manual crew, DSNY, Republic Services Vegas, WM of SD, and Athens Services have got to be the best manual providers with the best customer service. Big thank you to the crews for letting us film. I love manual collection, done the best way. The ''SoCal way'' haha. Comments and likes are greatly appreciated. Enjoy!
Rainbow over here used to do that when they collected manually. And another place has been doing it lately, but I can't film it because it really isn't allowed. If the bucket was secure, it'd be fine IMO.
These guys are fast! I'm surprised no other hauler ( that I know of ) has the helpers ride on the carry can. You can count the republic and wm out because it's "unsafe", but I would thing at least some other hauler would do it like that. I didn't see any recycle. Dirty MRF? I hate those. I feel like not every piece of recycle and green waste could be recoveries from one of those, and all the recycle is so contaminated once it gets separated. Awesome video nonetheless!

Also, one thing I think is so badass is that he blows the parking airbrake before a full stop and even before it even is fully parked he hops out. Fully confident it's all good. That's some flair and showmanship right there!! I know buses have deadman and trains have deadman switches, but not sure if this had one.. but would explain a lot, hahah..
Love how the offsider rides on the container, that's just awesome! Good to see some garbos out there still work hard, quality job they did too, saw him cleaning up the tiny amount of spillage at 4:37. Nice truck, looks pretty new.
These guys move pretty quick. Hope they aren't sloppy with the lids though lol. Classic, traditional, manual collection is always great no matter what. Just ditch those big cans and you got real manual collection raht dayurr lol

Great work! Glad to see trucks like this one driving around. These guys are great workers. I got some Athens FL from the Northridge area. Still working one it though. Peterbilt's are awesome, especially a diesel.

I've always liked front loader crews and the carry cans with the handles and steps so someone can ride on it. Always thought that was sooooo cool.
I also like how fast this crew is. Really like fast crews and with this one at some stops it seems they were faster than an Automated truck for example the stop at 3:27. Also really cool to see a newer elliptical hooked up to a carry can thought that was also pretty cool. Very nice find and awesome video :)

I was totally thinking about a manual plexiglass door myself. Twist the handle/arms and it locks onto the lip frame and has a latch to swing up a cutout hole if you wanted ventilation or a clear view if the plexiglass hazes up after x amount of usage.. anything for more security. Oh and my mistake on the Heil. I was looking at a Heil, but it was a McNeilus. Beats the hell out of me what the model number was tho. Did a full walk around and saw no model, lol.
The dreaded debris flying all over the place when you dump at 2:16, with nobody picking it up. That's why many trash companies stick with rear loaders. Plus the hopper is bigger on a rear loader.

And I also refer to the LA freeways, all bumpy. Those shock absorbers on cars work waay better than the air ride or leaf springs on the Heil front loaders. What do you mean about LA Sanitation? Is that another company? And lool, yes I know all about Republic Services and it's "family of companies." Or more like who they bought. Allied, who bought BFI etc.. You see the same trucks in the same yards. But it's kinda weird to see the random Consolidated, when it's all AW and Republic in LA yards..
when/if you come up here for the FOB Parade I might be able to take you out to TC and we could film some of these trucks :D
Personally the ride is really rough without the door because the jumpseat rider really gets thrown around on the way from the yard to the landfill and even worse if they have to go there (or any distance for that matter) in the mornings. Cold, wet. Wind. Plus if you stink from whatever you got into, your partner in the driver's seat gets it because all the wind gets into him.. plus remember, it negates heat and A/C with no door.. :/ And let me get this correct tho,Athens is not part of AWS, yes?
