If you clone the database server or client server, db2 will not work if you change the hostname. You need to follow some steps before changing the hostname and after changing the hostname. www.ibm.com/support/pages/changing-hostname-db2-server However, if you just clone the server (without changing the hostname), binary will also work and catalog is not required.
