When he was taken out of the Savoy Hotel suite he lived in by an ambulance days before he died, he raised himself off the stretcher and shouted to the Savoy guests and diners...."Don't eat the food ". He played it right to the very end. A wonderful talented funny character.
Love bad boys! Been with mine 40 years! Life is short! You should thank God every morning for waking up! Love people who are wild but good people at the same time! Your comment is great!
Michael Parkinson was fantastic at interviewing 'wild' men. He understood and respected them, and they him. His upbringing in the mining community and time in the Army played a major part in this. He interviewed some of the most intimidating stars, stood his ground, showed respect and they loved him. Watch other interviewers with the same guests and compare the respect and depth of interviews, fantastic and a great miss. Xx
RIP Richard Harris (October 1, 1930 - October 25, 2002), aged 72 And RIP Sir Michael Parkinson (March 28, 1935 - August 16, 2023), aged 88 You both will be remembered as legends.
I love Harris. It’s nice to hear his lovely Irish accent it’s toned down in the movies. I’m Jewish and my wife is an Irish Jew born and raised in the beautiful country I love the Irish accent. ☘️
OMG, I love him. How likable is he in this interview? He is full of life, so friendly and down to earth. So open. Love his stories and how talkative he was. Who could dislike this guy? So very Irish! :-) ...and that giggle..haha!
His performances were like this; full throttle with lots of energy. Best King Arthur EVER! The part t'was written for him. He could put over a song like nobody's business and convince you all of the way. Loved him so!
“Has it ever struck you that life is all memory, except for the one present moment that goes by you so quick you hardly catch it going?”― Tennessee Williams.............
Why do people think he's using drugs? You'll meet a lot of people in Ireland like this. Nothing to do with being high or drunk, some Irish people just love telling stories. A cultural difference perhaps?
molarmama32 Its just natural selection. As Celtic man I know that all the boring charmless men died in the famine or moved to America, We were in the pub.
Stevie P Hardly a Celtic man since most of the boring charmless men you described would have been Irish speakers. You must be one of those successful Anglo-Saxon Irishmen, like most of the population.
The Irish are not fucking Anglo Saxon, pleeeeeeeeese. Genetics shows we are very different....And furthermore unlike the Germanic peoples.....WE HAVE SOULS.......
Richard was always a Great Story Teller, Great Actor, Great Drinker, he was Passionate about everything he was. He`s one of the People i`d Love to drink Beer with and just sit and Listen to him talk. Wow.
I love the way he speaks in the third person. He refers to himself as 'Harris' when he tells stories and it somehow seems to have the effect of making himself the butt of the joke. It's brilliant because usually the notion of speaking in third person is seen as being pretentious, but he manages to do it in a humbling way.
I wish I'd have had the chance to have a day on the pop with this man. Top, top bloke, reminds me of my extended family with his easy going, friendly manner.
agree and thats why i love this guy, i admire him, so many people today are scared to really live and this guy just did it, he didnt care about what others would say and that imo takes courage and this guy had balls and im here today because he died exactly 10 years ago, RIP mate you are missed.
*I just wanted to take out the time to thank you for uploading all these great/classic Parkinson shows Matthew. I don't know (and don't care!) if it's a sign of me, finally morphing into a GOW (Grumpy Old Woman), but my hubby and I would much rather settle down for an entire evening, to watch these sort of clips, than the cr@p on most TV channels these days. I should perhaps add that we watch them on what my hubby considers to be a **_"stupidly large"_** UHD screen in our home cinema - as opposed to trying to huddle round the screen of a Samsung mobile phone! It's even better than going to the pictures, or cinema, or the movies as younger people (quite rightly) call it. Anyway I'd better go and get the popcorn and a couple of Kia-Ora's as he'll be home soon! But seriously, thanks again for taking the time and effort for everyone's entertainment. Cheers x.*
How good was Saturday night television back then? Parkinson at his best interviewing a genius. Match of the day later on. Beeb now just a shadow of what it was. The early 70s possibly the zenith of popular culture.
What she said.. thank you.....I've watched these clips a ridiculous number of times...he's riveting and I never tire of him..God bless his parents. Makes me extra glad to be half Irish.☘🇮🇪❤💋
Elvis was a Big fan of Richards. He sang a song that Richard also sang called " My Boy" - A Wonderful Song by Richard and Elvis. Listen if you get a chance .
My word! Love this guy! Always loved the song Macarthur Park, even though he sang it as MacArthur's Park, it was stunningly beautiful. Reminds me of Gordon Ramsay. Lots of healthy energy!
Who...in this day and time...can hold my attention as well as Richard Harris in this interview? I can not think of 1 person. Where are they anymore? Shallow Taylor Swift interviews...we are doomed!
I think you just have strange tastes. There's loads of interesting people out there talking really interesting conversations about really interesting things about the world and arts and politics......but if this attention seeking man child does it for you then that's fine lol
Richard didn't do drugs. He was highly intelligent & extremely energetic as are most brilliant people in my experience. I knew Richard & Jimmy Webb well.
He did 8 grams of coke a day in his prime and was an alcoholic and he admitted he tried heroin and LSD before he kicked them, I think he did at least a little.
Never noticed that when I was younger, but after seeing coke users on TV he does seem very excitable and is constantly fighting, touching his hair and nose. Before I just took that to mean he was high strung. I have social anxiety and get nervous and fidgety.
In one of my classes in high school we learned about Cromwell and instead of an educational company film, we were shown Richard Harris' film. I loved it and thought he was great.
Brilliant movie, I watched this recently when I suddenly discovered Richard via MacArthur Park on You Tube then I went searching for everything he had done. Lovely man would love to have known him.
It's completely impossible to have a great actor without Any eccentricities or crazy dramatic behaviour, whether he was under the influence or not he had more personality and chareceter in his ear lobe than most 'celebrities' today, to Hell with they're mediocare boring shit, the talents are lost in this generation and it's not going to get better sadly, I'm so pleased that Sir Anthony Hopkins is still acting though and ofcourse Hugh Laurie. Rip Richard, full of guts and passion, along with Richard Burton, Peter O'Toole, Sir Laurence Oliver, Oliver Reed and Marlon Brando.
I understand his discomfort with his hair. I have the exact same. Theres not much you can do with it but keep it short. So I buzz it now. I first noticed him because of it. Ive been a fan since
Whether he was on drugs or not, who gives a shit? The man was a legend, both onscreen and off and, sadly, we'll never get anyone like him again. Same with O'Toole, Burton, and Reed. Today's Hollywood stars are all too worried about their image, Instagram followers, and the like, and as a result, are boring and sterile.
What an entertaining interview, this actor, may not be the top of the tree, for many folks, But to me. He has the lot, a fine actor, a fine gust for a talk show, but most of all , an Icon of the silver screen, not bad for a lad with limited educational ability.
Great actor who was very underated and sadly ended up in some very poor films his talent was overlooked because of his lifestyle like so many gifted artists
I first saw him in This Sporting Life with the wonderful Rachel Roberts in about 1963 ... since then I have never seen this terrific actor ever give less than a true performance. (PS: Though it's rather depressing, I think This Sporting Life , for Harris fansis well worth tracking down .. it shows that Harris was destined to be a star from his very first movie... another terrific performance is in The Molly Maguires).
...Jimmy Page inherited the Property where he installed Kenneth Anger on the Ground Floor allowing him to make the "Lucifer Rising" Film there. Odd little Connection. Love Richard Harris.
memories of an afternoon with Richard during his last road show of Camelot....no more drinking, still engaging in conversation...very slender with blonde hair...the following evening he was King Arthur....brilliant !!
When he was taken out of the Savoy Hotel suite he lived in by an ambulance days before he died, he raised himself off the stretcher and shouted to the Savoy guests and diners...."Don't eat the food ". He played it right to the very end. A wonderful talented funny character.

Your comment is great!
Is this true?
Hahahahahaha
Richard is so captivating. Such a natural raconteur and big personality. He is dearly missed.
Back when people deserved the title “Personalities.” Full of didn’t give a toss attitude but of a boyish charm that he never lost. An absolute legend!
There’s still some these days but they’re just not movie stars.😊
I can't believe I haven't seen this for so long... it'll never happen again.
Richard Harris: Legend

Oh I agree. Parkinson’s was the best at this.
He's delightful. Wit, charm, shyness, rage, romance and a raconteur.
A genius - I met him in the westbury hotel Dublin dressed in his pyjamas having a pint - unapologetically himself …to the end.
RIP Richard Harris (October 1, 1930 - October 25, 2002), aged 72
And
RIP Sir Michael Parkinson (March 28, 1935 - August 16, 2023), aged 88
You both will be remembered as legends.
He was born😮 And died same month
They broke the mould after they made this wonderful man.
He had such a young way about him. It seemed years behind him. A really charming, boyish way about him.
Yes he has a boyish charm he’s like an eternal 20 year old. It fits him well!
Imagine a night in the pub with Harris and Reed. Anything but dull. This reminds me if the fact that many people are actually quite dull these days.
Don't forget Peter O'Toole 😊
I love Harris. It’s nice to hear his lovely Irish accent it’s toned down in the movies. I’m Jewish and my wife is an Irish Jew born and raised in the beautiful country I love the Irish accent. ☘️
..Greetings from Ireland
Loved him in The Wild Geese, saw it when I was 6 and felt the sadness of that movie. Today's Nov 25, 2022 how time flies.
Quality storytelling.. Irish legend 🇮🇪🇮🇪
what a treasure! so sad this man is no longer with us
OMG, I love him. How likable is he in this interview? He is full of life, so friendly and down to earth. So open. Love his stories and how talkative he was. Who could dislike this guy? So very Irish! :-) ...and that giggle..haha!
Couldn't agree more!
I love him too. I grew up with him
+Valentino Vamp right!
+Valentino Vamp yeah, i was thinking I wanna party with this guy ahhah
Oh hell yeah! That'd be some wild time! ;D
His performances were like this; full throttle with lots of energy. Best King Arthur EVER! The part t'was written for him. He could put over a song like nobody's business and convince you all of the way. Loved him so!
The world needs more people like this
no one tells stories like Richard. I could listen to his stories for hours
both him and peter o toole
Only Oliver Reed and Peter O'Toole
Wonderful man, left too soon, much much too soon, love your forever 😂😂😂😂😂😂
“Has it ever struck you that life is all memory, except for the one present moment that goes by you so quick you hardly catch it going?”― Tennessee Williams.............
wonderful actor, and what charisma x
Why do people think he's using drugs? You'll meet a lot of people in Ireland like this. Nothing to do with being high or drunk, some Irish people just love telling stories. A cultural difference perhaps?
As an Italian-American woman, why do you think that I find these Celtic men to be so fascinating?
molarmama32 Its just natural selection. As Celtic man I know that all the boring charmless men died in the famine or moved to America,
We were in the pub.
Stevie P I do not know what it is, exactly. I call it the "twinkle". Irish men can be 8 or 88,
YUM!
Stevie P Hardly a Celtic man since most of the boring charmless men you described would have been Irish speakers. You must be one of those successful Anglo-Saxon Irishmen, like most of the population.

You see I had a crush on him when he was older and then came across THIS and now I've got it even worse lol. Ty for sharing this with us
I love the way he speaks in the third person. He refers to himself as 'Harris' when he tells stories and it somehow seems to have the effect of making himself the butt of the joke. It's brilliant because usually the notion of speaking in third person is seen as being pretentious, but he manages to do it in a humbling way.
Coming from a scion of the august Chicken Caesar dynasty, I've no doubt 'Harris' would appreciate the doffing of your cap on this point!🐔
And today the BBC’s most watched program is ‘strictly come dancing’………what happened?
TV is obsolete now, like printed news.
Saw him live in Camelot what a treat
Richard Harris.
A true renaissance man.
Love Rugby sevens.
RIP Sir.
It's great to hear Richard's lovely Irish brogue coming through. A great great actor and fascinating man.
8:15 "...and that's a very funny story. Can I tell it?". Yes, Richard. You can tell it. One of the greatest talk show guests in history.
Cringe comment.
Legend. I could listen to his stories all day. A great story teller. His accent is so cool.
Cool 🙄
@@russellthompson9271 yes?
Tis man melts my heart!
A bloody fine actor and hellraiser one of the greats, shame we don't have the quality talk shows like parkinson back in the day.
I wish I'd have had the chance to have a day on the pop with this man. Top, top bloke, reminds me of my extended family with his easy going, friendly manner.
😂saw him in London in Camelot, he was mesmerising, sadly missed❤🎉
this man is pure creative energy. I absolutely love him
Nervous about a chat with Parky. Charming man and one of the greats.
it's great to see the late great Richard Harris interviewed here, 1973 is dating far back now.
Revisiting my younger tv nights - Harris, Burton etc just sheer down to earth people warts and all.
Jesus. How to be nervous, scared and agitated, and still be a man. RIP.
THE REAL DEAL, LEGEND ☘
I saw major Dundee last week for the first time ever and I am no OBSESSED with that movie and Richard Harris lol

What a brilliant interview.
Richard was such a wonderful actor, surely one of the best ever!

My man.The Irishman.
What Richard says at 7:35 regarding illness and friends disappearing is quite true.In many cases family as well.
💯
Elvis was a Big fan of Richards. He sang a song that Richard also sang called " My Boy" - A Wonderful Song by Richard and Elvis. Listen if you get a chance .
Love the expression on Parkinsons face at 6:02, It´s almost as if he´s thinking:
"This is just too good"
Blimey they don’t make them like this anymore, incredible
My word! Love this guy! Always loved the song Macarthur Park, even though he sang it as MacArthur's Park, it was stunningly beautiful. Reminds me of Gordon Ramsay. Lots of healthy energy!
Interesting how he found himself through illness, and his insecurities are part of his strength.
Cannot get enough of Harris I just love his stories .
Me too, i search everyday in case something new on him has been unearthed. I particularly liked the Parkinson one with the delightful stories he told.
He was a wild Irish man....husky and poetical...sensitive and emotional..thats why he was a good actor...lovel Camelot...😊
Two great Legends !! no one can replace them !!!!
Hilarious. He's soooo nervous. He keeps moving his hair. GREAT story teller & I loved his hands & his absolutely square shoulders.
Richard Harris was my teacher and gifted friend over the years when I was lost in the desert..he was a real gentleman and very natural as well..
How wonderful!!! He's beyond special...lucky you....he's a million different fantastic things...my very favorite🇮🇪💚💋💘🍻.....
I thought his work as a recording artist was brilliant. He had a distinctive style and an incredible range as a singer.
love his old limerick accent
Not your average limerick accent to be honest. Check out Dolores ó Riordan that's a limerick accent
ciaran There’s only a flicker of Irish with Harris.

Absolute Legend and his son, Jared, is a remarkable actor too.
What a marvellous man R.I.P
I remember film nights we had at school, they showed A Man Called Horse, this brutal film as I thought then, Harris so potent, never forgot it.
I loved him in Major Dundee opposite Charlton Heston. Great movie.
Kudos to Richard for straight up admitting pre nerves.
Explosive talent. He is unstable, totally amazing
Unstable? Wow.
Great interview this is!!! When TV was Gold!!!

Hardly a mystery. He's one of the most talkative over the top guy I've seen on parky. Almost to the point of cringe.
