Listening for the 1st time but, as a composer Jazz Pianist, I can say that Schubert's opening melodic figures are so compelling because they're also the harmonic driving force here. Shining the harmonic light of mood change from the control room. It's a lyrical melodicism performing a highly structural function. This is Bach level architectural elegance.
I will always appreciate that Haruki Murakami showed me pieces of art beyond books.

this is such a good a version, most quartets either don't pay quite enough attention to dynamics or they take it at a faster tempo.
I must say I would prefer some faster tempos, in this recording (for example in 3th movement).
To say that some others would take a faster tempo is euphemistic. However, this allows to read the score more comfortably! Thanks.

I love that Loki brought people here...I was thinking of learning something new tonight...and I was wondering what piece was played during that one scene in Germany!! I love classical music but I am more of a Chopin/Paganini fan if I’m being honest!! Love Schubert as well but I am not as familiar with his work!! Since I play violin, and cello I will definitely put this score to use!! I hope everyone who came for Loki is able to branch out and listen to more music in this style!!

Please check it out, while paganini is very flashy and impressive but Schubert sustains the Soul. Since you play violin try playing these in a String quartet yourself, such a experience is one of a kind.
These musicians are not afraid of a few tasteful "Heifetz slides" (portamento) in strictly classical-era music. Good for them! I enjoyed it very much.

Nope, the famous Schubert's piece in Barry Lindon is the slow movement from the Piano Trio Op.100.

Yes, but maybe Schubert's expanded Sonata form of his late works is not great to start studying. :) I'd suggest you to look to his earlier Quartets and Sonatas, as well as Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven (again, just the earlier works).

It's not poor, it's literally the opposite, too rich! You should start with some movement more close to the classic sonata form (two themes, developing, recapitulation), late Schubert works often have more themes, huge complex developings, and sometimes in very unpredictable tonalities. :)

Any piece can be played by an orchestra, but it depends on the quality of the orchestrator
You can arrange it, especially for a string orchestra. But it's composed only for two violin, a viola and a cello.
During the 19th century it was fairly common to perform string quartets not only only one to a part, but also in larger groups, even with double bass where appropriate. It would have been the duty of the leader and/or section leaders to make any necessary adjustments.
