I'd have to think about that but when it comes my favourite villain and villain team-up, it has to be Joker and Lex Luthor. Particularly when it's by Mark Hamill and Clancy Brown.
I remember this episode from when I was a kid just for the one scene where a little kid is still afraid of Batman and Joker tells him "don't worry. Batman's with me "
Did you ever see the page of Spiderman where he's been returned to his body after Doc Ock stole it and one quip is all Green Goblin needed to know that Peter was back... it's great for the same reasons
@@grabtharshammer2085 Better yet Buffy comic where for months Angel goes around as the masked Twilight, everyone baffled to who he is...and then we see Spike taking five seconds to see a video and goes "oh, right, that's Angel."
@Anynom Having not read that run, I can guess the thought process of the heroes was 'he acts kinda like Angelus, but since we know for sure Angel hasn't lost his soul again, it can't be him and he wouldn't be that extreme unless that happened'. Spike just went, "No, mate. Angel has gone off the deep plenty of times."
This episode lives in the folds of my brain for that out-of-nowhere joke that made me guffaw in a way that surprised even me. It's just Jeff Bennet's delivery and the animation on Joker's "The real one will move. _He always does."_ It always gets me into stitches, and I don't know why.
Plus mere moments before with him going through his objects, one that's too stabby, too toxic, too pointy, etc. Just adds to the zaniness of this homage to the silver age Joker of Caesar Romaro
Can’t believe you left out the part when Joker pulls out a pie while looking for weapons to use against Owlman but discards it for being, and I quote, “too fruity”.
I like the idea of an evil Bruce Wayne being a more supportive friend, it’s an interesting juxtaposition between the two version… Stephanie Brown’s Talon: Yeah, Owlman loved the idea of me being Talon and was super supportive lol
Or maybe he's just a better manipulator and looking supportive on the outside, the direct opposite of Batman's kind nature but closed off and tough attitude.
I often wonder why anyone would bother to pack in so many references to decades-old comics for just a single animated episode. Then I remember Sasha exists.
Its the Hercules principle Dysney's Hércules Is the least fateful adaptation I have ever seen, but Is also Full of easter eggs and references to the source material. So you know that the writers did their Homework and decided to tell their own story And you have to respect that
This episode and the fact that Batman and Joker teaming up was entirely believable within the context of the series setting helped solidify my love of Brave and the Bold. I especially loved the back and forth in the car with the "What does this button do?" routine that ends with Joker gassing himself.
This was probably my favorite episode of this series. From the portrayal of Owlman to the fun of the Joker to the clever strategy of Batman, this episode just works incredibly well. They really cooked when they made this one.
I like this series, especially when I could watch with my dad and grandfather. It becomes a game of spotting references. If you have 3 generations of Batman fans watching the same show it leads to you doing a deeo dive afterward.
I have to believe that either Sasha: 1. Uses a time travel device to read as many comics as possible to get her knowledge or 2. This is her second/another life. In her previous one she read almost every comic there was so that in this life she could have her RUclips channel.
That was my first thought... But... he looks completely different in that comic than his appearance in this episode. So it's not a direct reference to that either. Maybe this animated version is just meant to be an amalgamation of all of them.
I always find it interesting that Batman having contingency plans for all his allies stuck around as a concept, but over at Marvel, Professor X did the same thing with the Xavier Protocols a few years earlier and that barely ever gets referenced or adapted into anything X-Men related. Maybe it's just because the Protocols only got used 3 on 3 people, one being Xavier himself, so there's less to draw from.
I think that since Xavier has mostly been seen as a father figure to the X-Men, the fact that he had ways to take them out was just too much of a betrayel and out of character. Batman however, has always been portrayed as pragmatic and at arm's length from everyone else. He might be part of a team, but he's rarely PART of a team if that makes sense. So yeah, the contingencies makes sense for Batman.
I completely forgot he wore the olden golden costume. When I saw the thumbnail, I was like "I know she's talking about Brave and the Bold... but looks like Caped Crusader???"
With how standoffish superheroes tend to be (the portrayal for action figure clashing) I think that would be a pretty good explanation for Batman's plans!
I mean these two episodes sum it up pretty nicely. Batman knows any of his friends can be manipulated or turned against him with mind controll or posessed. And even outside of that there's other dimenssion doublegangers, evil clones or just supervillains that happen to have the same powersett. But no Batmans the crazy one because he thinks ahead 😅
Well, often his plans are used against him and causes even more harm. Look at war games, fail safe, and Tower of babel. Why doesn't he devote the same plans for his villains? 😅
So honestly, I love Mark Hamil as Joker But this is my favorite Joker and always will be. Jeff legitimately nails it, and his moments in this show rival even my favorite of Mark's in all his roles.
Ok, Cowboy Batman might be from Batman: The Blue, the Grey, and the Bat but considering the relative obscurity of the title it seems unlikely. I wonder if Solar Batman is based on the Batman of the 853rd century because it looks future-y, but again seems like a stretch.
It's interesting the opposite reactions Batman and Joker have to seeing each other's doppelganger. Batman sees what Joker could be. Happy to fight alongside him. Whereas Joker saw the evil Batman and wanted none of that at all. When you'd think he'd be happy to have that.
Speaking of Jeff Bennett's great unhinged laugh, any chance you could cover the DCAU episode Beware the Creeper? It's one of my favourite episodes and Jeff Bennett kills it as the Creeper.
@michaelandreipalon359 and also just to look into what all comics he might of refrenced in his episodes. He seems to be an original creation only loosely inspired by a couple of different obscure short lived DC characters according to the wiki, but like.... something about him becoming a giant in that armor felt really familiar to me, as if I remember the DCAU fighting a giant magic villain like that and it resulting in Batman and Superman getting fused into Composite Superman in the fight, while the episode focused on some other hero who was running away. It's been forever since I watched it so I might be crazy
@michaelandreipalon359 yeah that was the one I was thinking of. Going back to look up that episode title I guess the villain looked more different that I thought I remembered.
This episode remains one of my go to superhero comfort watches, Joker and Batman teaming up is always going to be a great watch. In this case it works even better because the Joker is legit charming, like, if he and this Batman did have a truce going on I can see them just going out for coffee or something, Joker telling a joke and Batman trying to hide his smile with his cup of coffee. Overall, Brave and the Bold is just top tier Batman content
I was thinking that the "Solar" Batman was the Batman from Hex, when Jonah Hex was stuck in the future. But while that Batman has a darker outfit with yellow and red accents, it doesn't look quite right.
Not sure if intentional or not but Bruces friends all believing he turned evil followed by him recruiting allies from a morally grey pool of versions of himself is quite interesting
I think the reason why Batman's friends didn't know he's been replaced is because he didn't tell anyone about the parallel earths and Owlman. Which he probably should have. While everyone knew about Owlman's plan hence if he's acting differently, he's probably been replaced.
Kinda off topic, but, while Mark Hamill will forever be my favorite Joker voice, I have always liked Jeff Bennett's take on the Joker in the Bold and the Brave and how it's different with its old timey, laidback gangster vibe.

both episodes were, in my opinion, some of the best this show has to offer. I honestly don't know if this owlman is Bruce or Thomas Jr? On one hand, it makes sense for owlman to be Thomas Jr but on the other hand, all the other evil versions in these episodes have the same voice actors, proportions and overall appearances aside from the different color palet except for red hood and owlman. There are so many versions of earth-3 that it could easily be either one of them. Maybe a version of Bruce that was named Thomas Jr instead or anything. Even if Scarlet Scarab and Blue Bowman are characters separated from Blue Beetle and Green Arrow, it's implied that they are the same people. Earth-3's characters are basically whatever and whoever the story needs them to be. For example, superwoman (evil WW) can either be Lois Lane like the popular version or Dona Troy like in recent comics, Earth-3's red hood can be a good Joker or Harley Quinn like the new version, and Ultraman's origin can be that he is Clark but raised by the Luthor family or simply another Kryptonian who landed on earth instead of Kal-El. When it comes to Earth-3, writers can do what they want. I strongly believe that this owlman is Bruce since it otherwise it wouldn't make sense that he's opposite isn't another himself.
One is my favourite episode - I’m always a sucker for Joker and Batman teaming up. It is one of my favourites of their dynamic And the golden age Batman was nice little Easter egg
Only good part of Batman Who Laughs is how it forced a team-up of Bats and Joker to stop him. Really loved how much Joker despised BWL, his takedown of Lex when he learned he was working for him was glorious.
About Nighthawk: there’s a Marvel character by that name who’s the equivalent of Batman on the Squadron Supreme. The Western Batman may simply be a repurposing of that character to refer to that particular easter egg.
funny how last episode red hood said he hope his counter part in Batman world will repay him despite Batman's doubt, but ironically it the Joker(redhood's counterpart ) wasn't there Batman probably could have lost as it was the Joker's chaotic nature that that gave Owlman a disadvantage and gave Batman the upper hand.
I think it’s pretty good. I think my favorite episode so far is “Chill of the Night”. That said, any episode with the DCAU actors returning are highlights for me.
Speaking of evil doppelgänger. What ever happened to the DC villian Prometheus ? I think he was predominantly in the Perez run of JLA ? He was a great new character and I haven’t heard anything about him in a while , love the channel!
I think the Batmen in this episode were all supposed to be takes on tropes, and references were used where they had used the same tropes in the past (hulking monster and vampire) while they came up with new designs for the rest (small guy with a big head and mind powers, cowboy, “Batman but with superpowers”.)
Oh, Batman's pulp origins. I forget who it was, but there was a YT vid that opened with "the Colt 1903 Pocket Hammerless... the gun that Batman carried" 😂
There was a DC Western superhero comic, 'Bat Lash', created in 1968, by Carmine Infantino and Joe Orlando and drawn by Sergio Aragones (of Mad Comics and 'Groo the Wanderer' fame). The character is a loner who's entire family is wiped out by murderous thugs. When I first saw a Bat Lash comic, I immediately thought it was a Batman variant, but I was far off the mark. I can see Batman Brave and the Bold going with Bat Lash as a variant direction. The full name of Bat Lash is Bartholomew "Bat" Aloysius Lash.
I honestly prefer the first part because it helped instill in me a love of the DC multiverse from a young age. Seeing what was possible with all these characters who I already loved from the rest of the show if only you put them in a different light (or pallette heheh) was eye opening and I spent years fantasising about what all these flipped heroes and villains could have been like
I mean to be fair The Shadow didn't really use a gun often either, he relied mostly on his Psionic Invisibility and the shock value of his voice appearing out of no where. Crime Doesn't Pay after all, but you will when you see todays deal on Blue Coal!
I sware, these two, are my "definitive" golden/silver age batman/joker voice actors, and if they ever try to adapt the 3 jokers concept into a animated film or tv plotline, please make the more "campy" classic joker, the more modern BTAS/Batman1989 is mark hamil obviously (if hes still around) and I guess the guy from under the red hood for the third joker, as long as they dont make him look like the batman v superman/suicide squad joker but still a more "modern cera 2000s-2010" look. Or the Rastafarian inspired joker from The Batman cartoon
Thank heavens the show didn't end in this ep as originally planned. Having 52 more eps (plus a Scooby-Doo crossover coda film) sure is a great decision on this show's part. I still prefer Kevin Michael Richardson as the definitive non-Mark Hamill Joker voice, but Jeff Bennett here is decent enough (especially with his numerous voice roles in stuff like Gargoyles in mind). Same goes for Under the Red Hood's John DiMaggio. TBatB is better off watched in production order, 'nuff said. 5:54: Did not notice that reference after all these years. I wonder if the DCAU's Near-Apocalypse of '09 is a loose take on the JLA Babel story arc? I mean, replacing Hal Jordan with John Stewart and actually offing Vixen instead of doing a Fear Toxin Carol Ferris hallucination there could explain why Batman Beyond's Warhawk is a thing. That Multiversal Batman team-up thing really makes me wonder... can the same be done with The PowerPuff Girls via their 1998, SteamyPuff, PowerPunk (grudgingly, or as antagonists), Z, and Great Edo iterations? 14:11: Is it OK for Owlman to keep the original Batsuit though? 14:19: That animation bump though. I'll recommend S2E4 - "Aquaman's Outrageous Adventure" for a future vid topic. So much DC Comics fictional city name fanservice.
I think the reason I love the golden age suit so much is because of this series. It looks great in this show and I love when it shows up! It’s in an episode with green arrow at some point too, that was the first time I saw it and I fell in love with it!
This is definetly my favourite owl man plot in animation because it was so derailed and funny and i loved all the other batmen that came through that portal
That line, "I know Owlman. Owlman was a friend of mine. You're no Owlman." is a reference to the 1988 US Vice Presidential debate between Lloyd Bentsen and Dan Quayle.
We never got that Owlman return, sadly. Gun-wielding Batman is referenced in Beware the Batman episode 24. It loses some of the punch because of how the guns were censored, but the context of it is a fun WTF?! moment.
I didn't really know about the Crime Syndicate before this show and given that part 1 was a season finally I was just glad to get the resolution. Plus it as cool to see the Joker finally in the series and I'm not even really a Joker fan. Even back then.
Cowboy Batman could possibly be a reference to "Batman: The Blue, the Grey, and the Bat" from 1993? The "Solar" Batman seems like it could possibly be some kind of take on Azrael's Bat armor? Just judging by the blue/gold color scheme and the red eyes. I know Jean-Paul Valley isn't Bruce, but still.
There is one other possible reference being made with Cowboy Batman. A one-shot elseworld at the start of '93 was called "Batman: The Blue, the Grey and the Bat", and it had Batman show up in 1863 as a horse-riding, gun-toting vigilante. That being said, the costume didn't look a thing like it does in this episode, so it's anyone's guess.
I love that owl man is actually Bruce’s brother. It enforces that Batman is a multiversel force of good and explains why the dark multiverse is filled with evil Batman
I always liked the big finale which somewhat reminded me of the International League of Batmen, what with all the cowled crusaders. Joker was great in the, the more Dick Sprang like version still mixed in with some true menace was a fun take.
I thought the episode was a great follow up. And there's nothing ever wrong with seeing other Batmen on screen to help out. Plus I still remember the joke where Plastic man was wondering how Batman does his vanishing trick, only to realize (incorrectly) that Batman has wormhole technology at his disposal.
This is gotta be a Mandela effect because I absolutely remember Thomas Wayne Junior being the younger brother I don’t remember where I heard this, but I remember that being a fact. This is gonna drive me crazy Sasha 😅
The western Batman character appeared in an alternate universe of my own creation where I wrote and drew Batman stories from 1947 to around 1963 when I switched to a different alternate universe and wrote and drew Ratman.
Hmm with all those batman 66 references, I wonder if technically you could count this as a continuation of that series, also with the batman having a gun thing, couldnt he just use less than lethal rounds, like rubber bullets or a stun gun, hell even Mace really, which I'm surprised catwoman hasnt ever used on him but I guess all the gadgets he has in his belt would do that already, but you would think surely wayne enterprises has a riot control division somewhere along with a rocket car division too really
Depending on the version the aversion tends to be directed not specifically at the killing (although that, too...sometimes) but at the usage of hand held weapons in general. He couldn't really in good concience /use a gun/ even if it fired like...bat paint pellets or bat anesthetic darts. I don't think he would. Versions do break with this. The Dark Knight has him use a rifle like device to shoot plastic explosives at a building he was gonna blow up, although since this later become a tie in toy for TDK I think maybe that's why he did it.
For the Wild West one... wasn't there a Batman story set during the Civil War where Batman/Bruce fights for the North, only to be revealed as the one who killed Lincoln as he was a double agent?
Bill Finger did say multiple times he regretted ever giving Batman the gun, like in his talk with Jack Burnley, or Jim Steranko. So one could argue that ,,Batman with a gun" was important character-point from the very start.
Come to think of it, there has always been something dark, ominous and even villainous about the 1939 batsuit. Not to mention that Batman used to kill his enemies all the time back then.🤔
What's your favourite hero villain team-up?
I'd have to think about that but when it comes my favourite villain and villain team-up, it has to be Joker and Lex Luthor. Particularly when it's by Mark Hamill and Clancy Brown.
Superman and the Superman Revenge Squad (Luthor, Metallo, Bizarro, and Parasite) versus Zod and the Phantom Zoners in Last Son.
Green Lantern (Hal of course) and Sinestro.
Sirens
Joker & Batman taking on Killer Croc and Slade in the manga was neat.
Cowboy Batman is a reference to how cool cowboys are.
Indeed
I don't care how much of a rush you are in to save a parallel Earth. Tell Alfred about the evil Batman in the bat cave before you go.

Mark Hamill is my favorite animated Joker, but Jeff Bennett is a very close second.
I really like the charismatic "camp" he gives to the role. It's almost suave.
How I see it Jeff's take on Joker fits with the Silver Age while Mark's take on Joker fits more with the bronze age/post bronze age

Daam, this show was really good, I never know how many cool references it has
I forgot about the electric chair slot machine!!! I love it so much, one of the best Joker torture machines :D
Green Arrow shot in the head at the end of Cry for Justice
@@graylin24 wow, brutal
I remember watching this when it was new. I still love it to this day.
I havent seen the episode yet, But the 'solar bat suit' makes me think of the "Final Crisis. Insider Suit"
I think the Batmen in this episode were all supposed to be takes on tropes, and references were used where they had used the same tropes in the past (hulking monster and vampire) while they came up with new designs for the rest (small guy with a big head and mind powers, cowboy, “Batman but with superpowers”.)
The cowboy Batman seems to be from a one-shot called „the blue, the grey and the bat“.
Me now: oh cool he's wearing the classic 30s suit
Me then: He's wearing the TAS suit!
Oh, Batman's pulp origins. I forget who it was, but there was a YT vid that opened with "the Colt 1903 Pocket Hammerless... the gun that Batman carried" 😂
Batman vs owlman was awesome 😎
I always liked this joker because it was a fresh design in comparison to the more edgy jokers of now
There was a DC Western superhero comic, 'Bat Lash', created in 1968, by Carmine Infantino and Joe Orlando and drawn by Sergio Aragones (of Mad Comics and 'Groo the Wanderer' fame).
Hey look it's a caped crusader crossover 😂😂😂
I love Joker on this show!
I miss a more fun, more silly Joker. every Joker now a days has to be all “we live in a society”, I miss when the Joker did it for the L’s lol
Omg..."Insert thing there..." phrasing!!!😂
😮 great research, I was lost on so many Batman
This is definetly my favourite owl man plot in animation because it was so derailed and funny and i loved all the other batmen that came through that portal
That line, "I know Owlman. Owlman was a friend of mine. You're no Owlman." is a reference to the 1988 US Vice Presidential debate between Lloyd Bentsen and Dan Quayle.
We never got that Owlman return, sadly.
Gun-wielding Batman is referenced in Beware the Batman episode 24. It loses some of the punch because of how the guns were censored, but the context of it is a fun WTF?! moment.
I am sorry. I yield. Sasha broke out a cartoon as her evidence Owlman could beat Batman. Respect, Sasha!!
It would have been nice to see Owlman return with Ultraman and Super woman once Superman and Wonder woman were allowed on the show.
I didn't really know about the Crime Syndicate before this show and given that part 1 was a season finally I was just glad to get the resolution. Plus it as cool to see the Joker finally in the series and I'm not even really a Joker fan. Even back then.
we love refreshing YT and boom, new video!
Sasha , your Wigs are Off the Chain ! You look like a Comic book Superhero !!!! Love your passion for comics !!!!❤️
Conan of Cimmeria and Thoth-Amon of the Black Ring.
I’ve seen this episode back when it aired, and I enjoyed it💁🏻♂💯.
Awesome 👌
Things not to do on the internet (even innocently): Point down below the screen and say "Insert thing there!"
"Please, put that thing there"
...phrasing.
Jackanapes:Jack Napier.
The more things I hear about Bob Kane, the more I feel that I've been lied to
This is gotta be a Mandela effect because I absolutely remember Thomas Wayne Junior being the younger brother I don’t remember where I heard this, but I remember that being a fact.
This is gonna drive me crazy Sasha 😅
Can you cover Bruce Wayne Fugitive? I don't hear enough about that story line.
Speaking of characters dressed up as Batman, can you cover the episode where some of Batman's friends step in as Batman?
The western Batman character appeared in an alternate universe of my own creation where I wrote and drew Batman stories from 1947 to around 1963 when I switched to a different alternate universe and wrote and drew Ratman.
You wrote the Portal comics!?
@@GabePuratekuta What are the Portal comics?
@@buzzawuzza3743 Comics made for the game Portal. You said you made Dr. Ratmann which is a character in Portal,
@@GabePuratekuta Thank you for letting me know.
I always figured the Batman in the tech suit was a version of Shooting Star.
Yeah, Metamorpho stating he'll see Batman on TV seals the deal on that reference. Speaking of which, did he ever appear on the 60s show?
Hmm with all those batman 66 references, I wonder if technically you could count this as a continuation of that series, also with the batman having a gun thing, couldnt he just use less than lethal rounds, like rubber bullets or a stun gun, hell even Mace really, which I'm surprised catwoman hasnt ever used on him
but I guess all the gadgets he has in his belt would do that already, but you would think surely wayne enterprises has a riot control division somewhere
along with a rocket car division too really
Not to mention that Batman used to kill his enemies all the time back then.🤔
I think this was my introduction to the Joker. This episode released when I about 4 or 5
"Please, insert thing there," as she points down towards her lap.
Ummm...are we not doing phrasing anymore?
Maybe cowboy Batman is a reference to the time travel episode in Justice League Unlimited
