I'm glad to see Tony is being cautious and wearing his safety glasses while using the fuzz! Seriously, what a great great player. Everything he plays is very tasteful.
Funny how most "demo's" on youtube include people trying to show off their playing abilities, but when you get a truly great bass player, hey, no need for that, lets just actually demo the product! Awesome. ps. And no slap! :)
Totally agree. One of the true greats. I just found out recently he was asked to join Weather Report at one point in the 80s but was too busy with Peter Gabriel. If only....
Tony Levin is one of greatest ever. I have seen him a dozen times with Peter Gabriel. Just an incredible bass player. If he says buy it, I will believe him
MANY thanx to Pepe Music and to that beautiful, legendary (sometimes elusive) Tony Levin for this insightful presentation. I don't take enuf time for this kind of stuff and it's great to find something so informative!
Great video, very informative. I was thinking if I should get this one or take one of the classic big muffs, seems like I'll get this one. Thanks for the video, keep up the good work.
I too have used most the various Muffs around and I wasn't going to bother with this one. I own a number and some have minor differences (like the tone off switch) and the Sovtek ones and different vintages have different make components. I can't hear much difference in some. The Muff is a pedal I like a lot and use a lot, whether for guitar or bass or violin even. I have used a seperate mixer from my pedal board for blending (and amp splitting) as it's nice to add some clean. I was also bothered using a Noise gate as didn't want to affect my sound but I do have a few 'noisy' pedals and I only really use analogue so noise is more of a problem than if I used digital. I'd been using use the EH silencer noise gate and found it didn't alter my sound in any detrimental way. Noise gates can take away from the sound but it's that awful electric hum I want rid of. It doesn't require turning up massively. .I saw this video and being a big Tony Levin fan decided if it's what he uses then I think it's worth getting one. I like it a lot and would recommend it to anyone. EH pedals are generally cheap to buy and great quality.
Hey EHX I wish the crossover section had it's own level knob so it acted as a boost as well a being a filter. the filter as is isn't very dramatic and I haven't really found much use for it. The elements that make this pedal a winner is having blend and noise gate.
Considering T. Lev almost certainly has better things to do, this was a very good overview. Guys with his level of chops don't always have equivalent communications skills.
Do I have any reason at all to buy that thing if I have the regular version, a 31 band EQ, a 2 channel expander-gate and a sound card that lets me chose how much of wet and dry signal I want in my mix ?
What,s the piece of gear to the left of the computer screen witht he red light arcing from left to right sometimes. It's on top of all the others... Thanks
I like the safety goggles. Bass is a dangerous sport.
I'm glad to see Tony is being cautious and wearing his safety glasses while using the fuzz! Seriously, what a great great player. Everything he plays is very tasteful.
"I have this sustaining to the point of about 3 weeks after the tour ends" holy smokes, that got me. Tony is just the best.

a greedy ego is just shit

Tony Levin is a living legend
So apart from playing great he actually knows how to give a proper product demo... Gotta love Tony!
Tony Levin is one of greatest ever. I have seen him a dozen times with Peter Gabriel. Just an incredible bass player. If he says buy it, I will believe him
I actually did just that. I think he's a great musician and I have several Big Muffs of different types but as he uses it then I had to get one.
Tony, you're a treasure! Thanks for being an inspiration to us bass players!
The bass player of the bass players!
Holy Molly. The legendary king crimson bassist Tony Levin making spotlight on pedals. This pedal must be damn good.
Levin was the go-to bass player for John Lennon and Peter Gabriel as well.
That’s a man I can trust! Great to see Toni talking bass so much now huge fan thank you!
Mudhoney made me aware of these pedals and I've been in love with them since
I just love this guy!
the crossover function is what makes this interesting, that low pass will let you get some proper low end sub freqs sitting underneath all the fuzz
Sustain 'til "3 weeks after the tour ends". Funny stuff, Tony, I always had you pegged as an off-handed wit, sensei - you just seem the type.
✌🏼😊🎶❤✨️🕊
I just used the old version Bass Muff in the studio this last weekend and it ruled.
Smartest and most entertaining review on RUclips ;-) Thanks Tony!
I played a Russian Big Muff for 6 years back in the 90's. I think the blend knob is the most important part of this new pedal.
Dry blend is my fave feature, I'd add it to every dirt pedal out there.
Great review; thanks! First time I've seen you with such a small instrument. I appreciate your straight forwardness.
Concise and clear. Thanks! I'm gonna get myself one soon. The DI alone doesn't cut it for me. I really need this one for a great Combo..
Nice pedal review by a guy who has seen a bass or two.
Tony is just soooo the man!!
With the crossover my house shook too! hahahaha I got scared suddenly! Great pedal! ;)
Thanks a lot for this excellent review! Just ordered the pedal. Can't wait!
thanks mr. white
iNK Jesse?
Tony is the best. Every bass player should read his book.
I love his jokes.
I need to give this pedal a test drive.
I could here a huge difference with the implementation of the blend.
im loving the dad jokes

My favorite bass player. God his stuff
on Peter Gabriels' So' is amazing.
When Tony speaks we pay attention...!

Geez you guys have some pull. Fricken Tony Levin... wow. I think I last saw him at HORDE @ Old Orchard Beach with the double trio version of Crimson.
i 've had the same "blend" problem for years Tony!!! i agree with you that for just that knob is a upgrade now buy!
Thank you Tony!
Loved you in Arrested Development.
But awesome tones! Always loved Big Muffs.
Thanks a lot Tony for your excellent reviews like always
Saw this man last night at the King Crimson show in Philly, holy god what an awesome experience.
Good job Tony! Let's see more.
OH MAN! I can't wait to get mine in the mail.
Tony Levin is awesome. In case anyone didn't notice.
Considering T. Lev almost certainly has better things to do, this was a very good overview. Guys with his level of chops don't always have equivalent communications skills.
'since the earth cooled'... LMAO
the blend knob is a really big deal.
What's up, Tony! I'm all ears.
Hey, look at all the cool pedals he owns. That's a real man. :)
Great vid!
Thats such a good looking, cute-ass bass.
Love that dude, king crimson rules
tony levin, you are just so damn cool :)
TONYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY
Dam. Just as I swore off effects, I'll have to get this, dam it !
What is the name of the colour of that Stingray!? I have been trying to find out for years!
Apparently it's a custom colour for Tony. They called it "Barbie Head Pink"! Check out the recent Rick Beato interview (it is explained on there!).
I could do with some Russian big muff too.
Salmon
Lets hear those Sovteks!
I read that Tony deemed it "Barbie skin". He's the best, man.
Great Tony…🎸🌟 What colour is your Music Man…it’s insanely beautiful…is it a coral pink? Or custom just for you?
Lets cook.
Do I have any reason at all to buy that thing if I have the regular version, a 31 band EQ, a 2 channel expander-gate and a sound card that lets me chose how much of wet and dry signal I want in my mix ?
do i spot 3 green russian pedals? beauties
Earthquaker Hoof Fuzz!
Is there any reason at all why I would choose a standard bass Big Muff Pi over this one? Or can this one behave exactly as that and then some?
make a green "russian" big muff please pretty please
Hey hey have you plugged this up to a guitar to mess around with it and see how it sounds
what do you think about digitech driver?
What,s the piece of gear to the left of the computer screen witht he red light arcing from left to right sometimes. It's on top of all the others...
Thanks
Tuner...
Matthieu Clerjaud
I know but what model / brand... we seem to see that thing everywhere on stages.
Tenebrius1963
Got my reply, is anyone wants to know after all it's a Korg DTR-1 Rack Tuner.
HEISENBERG!!! :D :D
How come I always assumed Tony was British?
Me too, didnt realize he was a joker too
+Edward J. Rodriguez i thought so too because he plays for Peter Gabriel
+Edward J. Rodriguez Because he's tall and goofy looking?
+Ross Cicero nailed it
Born in Boston Mass. and he’s 75 years young this year... 👏🏼🇷🇴🇬🇧🙏🏻
Probably not, but I guess the BBMD would really come in handy when gigging.
Hm, why are buzz and hum in Europe louder?
They have different standards for power, which is why some pedals and amps have optional adapters depending on where you live in the world.
+nephilymbass1 Sure, I know that, but what, are they generating hearable buzz? I don't think so.
+Drzejzi my guess is multiple reasons. Older power grids, gear being designed to sound best in countries where they think they'll sell the most.
different ac-dc frequency - Eu 50Hz, US 60Hz. Dunno about Russia.
SOLD
What's this pedal like with a normal electric guitar? I can't decide between the guitar deluxe for both bass and guitar, or the bass pedal for both.
I’ve heard people use it for both
my choice for guitar is the ehx russian big muff deluxe - check it out!
so if its an active pickup which input do i keep it in? 0 or 10?
General rule: (minus) -10 dB to avoid overloading but always judge by hearing. Too hot of a signal? Then reduce
@tomrobinsonyeh Color coral.
It is Literally the same circuit, the only difference would be the difference in the individual parts, something that no one can control.
Pfffffffft, Pi is 3.141592 not 96!
Antony Becirspahic You're just asking for someone to take you seriously. lol
I did not know Walt played bass.
Set the tone to 11
I feel as though it takes away from the low supporting tone..
Mostly getting a thumbs up for reciting pi
nothing against tony levin, but I guess I'm jaded, would he find this pedal so wonderful if he were not a paid endorsee ?
Розенбаум еще и на басу играет
Ну примочка же с русской скопирована, почему бы не сыграть)
i always have that same problem when im gigging in russia...
But Music Man don't make it anymore.
They're the same circuit. There's no reason they'd sound different.
Sorry mate, Looks nothing like Walter.
Luv ya Tony, but fuzz bass sounds like caca.
