    A fresh green Poplar dowel rod is practically Unbreakable!
    When I worked at a Cabinetry shop , I used to make mine out of Oak. It's heavy wood beautiful, ect.
    My buddy who was twice my age told me that Oak is going to split the first time you use it.
    He said make it out of cheap Poplar. I laughed at him.
    He bet me that I could not break it over the steel dumpster, no matter how many times I hit it!
    Being a cocky 25 year old, I took that bet & lost.
    I am telling you that green Poplar wood is the way to go!👍

      Police people seem independently operated and controlled by whims and opinions of themselves, supervisors, judges, townships, cities, counties, and states! (Police people are blue-collar workers not educated lawyers, and many of them today are without high school diplomas!)...
      The deputy/policeman jobs attract mentally abusive psychopaths, sociopaths, pedophiles/child molesters, and narcissists like drugs to an addict more than any legal profession!.
      Bad police people must pay financial damage from their pockets for unlawful acts against innocent taxpayers or the policing problem can only exacerbate greater hate and demise further dishonoring the "for profit" profession!

    I started in the Military Police. A Ft Gordon A10 grad. After the Army and College I worked as a big city cop. I retired from that.
    I liked the Asp metal baton because it was always on my belt. I preferred my wood baton in a big fight. The problem was after numerous strikes with the asp it tended to come loose and retract. We were restricted from head shots. That rule greatly prolonged fights and could lead to the use of deadly force.
    The old time cops used a one ounce sap or slapper. Usually one hit ended the fight. Although outlawed in my time the sap pocket was still included in the uniform pants well into the 1990's.
    My state has a stand your ground law. I have seen states that they are very upset when one of their well regarded armed robbers was killed.

    One time long time ago my Unit was tasked with re-inventing alternate methods of both defence and attack. The concept was how would you fight if you had lost all your kit, all your weapons, whilst behind the lines/forward of own troops. The subject evolved into what eventually became Expedient Weaponry, an example familiar to you would be the US Police baton which first saw the light of day as the broken leg of a dining chair prior to it`s commercial production. My favourites were the low profile baton used against nerve points in both attack and restraint, I carry one today as a keyring. It`s four inches long with a blunt end and is not seen as a weapon but it can be devastating. The most effective whilst being seen as the least threatening, is a tightly rolled newspaper. Many uses for it , but my preferred uses would be as a force concentrator in ,say, a throat punch or as a means of establishing a triangular choke. The advantage of these items is they are seen as everyday items, they are not seen as offensive weapons in the same way as, say, a big stick or an extendable baton would be, by police after their use. The key to effective self defence is not what kit you have or how it`s used. Situational awareness trumps everything.

    • @rooroo9216
      @rooroo9216 Год назад

      Yeah the side handle is better for sure, more protection and options too aswell as hitting harder. The telescopic ones are the best for portability. He’d have to brace with the off hand to take off some of the shock and minimise the wrist bending.
      There’s also escrima style blocks that use the back of the upper arm to brace the baton against, but idk how they’d do against heavier weapons.

      Use a metal pen. Something to draw with, to take notes but also can be used for defense. The excuse is, well, lots of people carry pens to write with.

    Wrapping the string attached to a baton around your wrist is a no no. It's better to wrap around the base of the fingers, so you don't get trapped in the string should you lose control of the baton or someone gets a hold of it.

    The wood dowels can be improved by drilling small center holes on either end and placing a metal bolt inserted up to the head into the ends. Same idea, attach a metal washer (same diameter as dowel) with a bolt or wood screw into the ends.
    The heavier and sturdier grey PVC pipes (with or without caps) are a good substitute for dowel sticks and can be filled with sand for extra weight - when asked why you have one - a DIY construction project.

    The same problem as in continental Europe, everything is prohibited/forbidden and in the worst case the authorities can charge you for using a common household item as a self defence tool in the same manner as for an weapon.
    For example, you hit an attacker with your maglite, you will get charged in the same manner as for using a baton.

    Padlock. Tie the shackle end to 6-8 inches of strong bandanna or paracord. Best with a loop around the back of the hand/wrist with the two legs inside thumb and little finger back through, grab through palm and swing shit at heads. Dare you can find something better that flies under radars.

    Whenever you talk to law enforcement, DO NOT LIE! You have a right to remain silent; you have no right to lie. If you tell a cop your dowel is a rolling pin, there had better be some dough residue on that rolling pin, or you can go to jail for lying to a law officer even if you escape other charges.

    Some great idea here. In my opinion, pepper spray is terrible idea, as it creates a false sense of security. I've seen three different people sprayed, with little success. My favorite self-defense tool is paying-attention. My second is my Airweight .38 Special with the front sight removed. It lives in my back pocket. Worry about the jury after you save your family. There are some very good key rings with "palm sticks", the "Kubotan" being my personal carry. Nice you mentioned Mr. Tak Kubota.

    I think that while an LEO will end up wrestling a subject, a civilian can simply spray the attacker and then open up the distance between them and the subject. There is no need to close with an attacker as a non LEO. Spray, distance, 911.

    • @ryanj1221
      @ryanj1221 Год назад

      Right. It’s definitely a better thing to use for non LEOs. Imo Best thing for LEOs is being smart and using backup as they’re required to do to apprehend the perp. For the regular person. Get a stream type and high MC OC content Have it in hand if truly feel unsafe (like you can’t with a CC) and if one accosts. Hit em with it then gtfo. And stay out of bad neighborhoods and be home and a decent time of night haha

    When i am a bad area and feel unsafe and keep in my car in case i am attacked a carry a mini sledge hammer than i bought at harbor freight tools. I guarantee you no matter what part of the body it hits its going to do major damage. I think most people see you have a sledge hammer in your hand , i don't think they don't want to risk being hit and severely hurt.

      Actually a very simple means of self defense for such locations (or any location) is to have 1-2 handfuls of sand in your front pants pocket. If you’re at risk, you subtly slip your hand in the pocket and crisply throw a handful of sand in the assailant’s eyes. This gives you time to kick a knee, throw a punch, run, etc. When you don’t need the sand in your pocket, you just empty it into a ziploc bag for the next time. Very non-suspicious compared to concealed weapons in other countries.
