Taking the equation and squaring on bothe sides then
(x⁹⁹+1/x⁹⁹)²=169
Applying (a+b)²=(a-b)²+4ab we get
(x⁹⁹-1/x⁹⁹)²+4×x⁹⁹×1/x⁹⁹=169
(x⁹⁹-1/⁹⁹)²+4=169
By subtracting 4 from both sides we get
(x⁹⁹-1/x⁹⁹)²=165
By Rooting both sides we get
x⁹⁹-1/x⁹⁹=√165
So his method is right and we get 4 from applying all the identity
