Throughout the Medieval period in Europe, the concept of torture pretty much went hand in hand with everyday life. By today’s standards, living itself was it’s own torture when you consider the state of hygiene, the state of war and the state of politics with these jokers trying to outclass themselves as the worst kings ever. But if tuberculosis, the black death or being accused of being a witch weren't bad enough, the Europeans of the Mediaeval period thought, ‘gee, how can we make things even worse?’ So, they went ahead and thought up
a range of brutal and gruesome torture methods, each designed for specific purposes and “perfected” during the height of when coming up with gory punishments was a peculiar pastime.

Tor'ture methods and equipment was NOT unique to the Medieval period. This is a Misconception.
These were the Same equipment and methods that the Roman Empire had ALWAYS used to deal with it's crim'inals and Enemies, ranging From a Time before they became "Catholic" to when they were Pagans still....
The pagan Romans spent 300 years Hun'ting down Christians and any enemies of the State, and killling them in the most Bru'tal of ways, as we can see with the very Cruci'fixion method used on Jesus Christ and, later, on his disciples and other Christians.
This was Nothing New.
The Only difference was that during the Medieval period, the printing press was invented and so these tor'ture methods were recorded in the books, that were distributed to the public for the first time.
The Romans actually "toned down" their bru'tality after they converted to Catholicism , as they were much more Bru'tal as pagans. There are records of them using Christians as human torches under Caligula and Nero.
However, even with this Show of "Conversion" to Catholicism, the Roman Empire still desired Complete and Autho'ritarian Power and Control over it's Territories, and they resorted to the same Tor'ture and killlings against their Critics, Enemies and any Christians (especially Protestants) who questioned and critiqued them .
The Spanish inqui'sition was to do with the Roman empire weeding out it's critics (mainly protestant Christians) and labelling them as "Heretics" and putting them to Dea'th under the worst of conditions.
