    Funny to see so many people calling this click bait because they ASSUMED the laser in the DVD drive had anything to do with the project. I wonder if any of you ever built anything in your life. To make the CNC aspect of this with just the mechanical guts of 2 DVD drives, an Arduino, and some scrap aluminum/wood/screws is incredibly impressive. Well done, Daniele!

    WOW that was an awesome video! Very informative without talking!
    You've captured a great deal of information without all the chatter. Many people out here like myself learn from watching. I tend to loose interest when someone is talking about what they're doing instead of doing it.
    They will spend 20 talking about it and 10 minutes showing, while you're video wasn't even 20 minutes long!
    Incredible !

    I love that project, thanks for sharing! If you mount the bottom plate at the top (the x-axis) you could construct the device in a way that you can place it on any size of sheet to engrave. Due to the fact that I often want to burn a small logo on bigger sheets of wood or plastic I will try to build it that way round. The engraving size stays the same but you can place it on e.g. a table and engrave that with your logo. :D Keep up the good word, Daniele.

    Something very useful and a HUGE time saver: if you have a carbide-tooth blade mounted on your table saw ( fairly common today), it is perfectly fine to use bcutting the soft aluminum components. The angle stock and even the tubing can be cut without suffering any damage or premature wear as it is Much softer than tungsten carbide. (Mohs scale: Al=2.5-3
    Tu/Ca =8.5-9) you get the time savings as well as straight consistent results as opposed to hacksaw or other non-fixed methods

    3:04 Those 4 wires you attached to the ribbon cable end...they just go to the motor where there are 4 big solder spots right? Why didn't you just solder directly to those? 🤔

    • @matthewmullin8168
      @matthewmullin8168 4 года назад +6

      Tbh it's kinda hard to solder directly to the motor wires, plus if you mess up, then you ruin a motor. If you mess up on the ribbon or connector, you just cut off a piece or get a new connector

      Grazie per la dritta, conosco il problema purtroppo, bisogna evitare di fare le immagini dal' alto perchè potrebbe riflettere. Comunque per questo tipo di riprese uso la Canon 6D mk2 per una questione di versatilità. :-)

    • @macroby
      @macroby 5 лет назад

      Piuttosto bisogna stare attenti per se stessi perché si adopera laser di classe IV, classificati come pericolosi per gli occhi e pelle. Inoltre su superfici riflettenti potrebbero causare incendi. Quindi occhio ragazzi!

    Very nice but I wonder if no one is asking in comments where you get information what exactly shaft use this old dvd drives and what kind of stepper motors. Because you need to do calculation for stepper right? ..steps per revolution, what is degree per full step, shaft pitch?
    Basically you can make an engraving machine from anything that has an internal stepper engine like old skenner,printer,cd ,dvd mechanics etc. From my perspective problem is that you dont have information what kind of motors and shafts are inside. You can measure it manually and recalculate but it will be not exactly same. Maybe i am wrong...

    Ehh.. The title is inaccurate. DVD drives + A ton of other items. **Btw you've gotta buy a laser seperately**
    Honestly you could have not even used dvd drives they were that irrelevant to the build. Why not retitle it "How to build a CNC Laser engraver with a screwdriver". It's about as accurate as yours.
    On a final note, personally the music ruins the video and the editing. The video itself was good, but with a misleading title and a "Like-wall" for releasing the rest of the information, and the poor music choice, it ruins the experience.
    Good luck on your future projects and remember, without the community you wouldn't have sponsors, so treat them better than this.
