The scene in Madonna's documentary was so emotional that it had the entire cinema in tears. Her mother's story touched me deeply, and it felt as though Madonna was speaking directly to me. Watching the superstar become vulnerable and humanized was challenging, yet it showed her generosity and unique form of entertainment. She has become an idol, a teacher, and a supporter who cares for humanity. Madonna's generosity can be seen in her work with charities and young artists struggling under the pressure of the media (Britney Spears & Sam Smith come to mind). Even after all these years, she continues to use her platform to make a difference. Madonna's passion is truly admirable.
Thank you, ladies, for sharing your loss, too and sharing the reaction because it's easier not to :)
    Cheers

This whole documentary is showing Madonna as the person behind the pop icon. I watched it countless times in my life and it always lifted me up when I was insecure or sad. It has such a strong message overall. And Madonna is such a personality, that's what made me a super fan.

Years ago, during an interview, Madonna was asked if she thought she would've become a pop star, had her mother not die when she was just a child, and Madonna said no. She said she'd probably be a teacher. In a completely different interview, at different time in her career, someone asked her if there was ANYTHING in the world that she'd be willing to trade all of her success, fame and fortune for, and Madonna answered: " Yes.... A MOTHER! "

I'd say Brenda nailed it exactly. She'd have been a totally different person had she not experienced such a significant loss so early in life.
On just about every album after this, you'll be hearing at least one song that references her mother, some very subtly and others quite pointedly.
The man standing by the tree in this clip is her brother Christopher, who worked with her in many capacities over the years....dancer, dresser, tour director, interior designer. He didn't really approve of her filming what he felt was too personal and private a moment as this was for her documentary.

You can definitely feel the loss of her mother throughout her music. ❤️

Just melts your heart when she laid down and cuddled up to her mom’s grave marker recalling perhaps her earliest memory when her mom cradled her in her bosom-a subliminal image of the madonna and child flashed in my Catholic background mind. The fresh bouquet of white lilies is likely her mom’s favorite flowers and is traditionally also the flower offering to and a symbol of the Virgin Mary, the original Madonna in medieval Catholic and Byzantine art/iconography. I learned that the cemetery scene here was when she and her brother Chris visited their mom’s grave in Bay City, MI after their BAT concert leg in Auburn Hills (north of Detroit) in June of 1990. Not shown in this video, her mom’s grave in Calvary Cemetery is beside the graves of her mom’s parents Willard and Elsie Mae Fortin (Madonna’s grandpa/ma) and Madonna’s uncle, Gary Fortin, her mom’s brother. Other history: Madonna was born in Mercy Hospital in Bay City. Growing up she and her siblings visited her maternal grandparents often. Her grandma Elsie (died in 2011 at age 99) helped raised Madonna when her mother died in 1963. During her Holiday number in her 1985 Virgin tour homecoming concert in Detroit, she exhorted the audience to get up and dance and she famously called out-“And that goes for you too Grandma!!” glancing towards Elsie Mae who attended the show. Thank you for sharing your sensitive reaction here.

I love that you decided to review this scene from the doc Truth or Dare!! it was such a poignant part of the entire documentary. I agree with your point on how this event in Madonna’s life had shaped her so much. How could it not? Would she be a performer, or even the same performer without this event?
Not sure how much she was really willing to share this, as much as perhaps the production company behind the documentary wanted this included in the film. I recall her brother Christopher, seen leaning against the tree in the cemetery, had said he resisted this intensely. He had tried to talk her out of participating. I’m glad it was included.
Great review ladies, keep them coming.
Is Brenda’s arm now out of her sling? Happy recovery ❤️‍🩹

Thank you for posting this. So profound. Next I recommend you react to the entire Truth or Dare Documentary of her Blonde Ambition Tour. It is hands down the best concert Documentary ever made, and when it came out in 1990/91, it was revolutionary. (You'll probably need to do it in about 6 separate takes). Madonna Louise Veronnica Ciccone is a genius. No-one has ever been able to use their art/music and influence an entire generation. I'm an Irish Italian Catholic Baby Boomer (61 years old) and her impact on me was monumental. Keep up the good work!!!!

A very sad scene from the documentary. The song is beautiful, but together with these scenes and those deep comments from Madonna, it is moving. Life and death always make us have existential doubts and this specific video about losing a beloved one and thought about death is one of them. Your reaction was very nice, keep up the good work girls, you are the best!! Kisses 🥰🥰🥰

Hi!!! I was so happy to see this today, wasn’t sure if you’d watch this or wait in case you react to Truth or Dare, but it’s a very touching video clip, which in itself had a bit of controversy also. Lol😊
Also, the guy standing off to the side by the tree, is her brother Christopher and he later said, that he was not happy that Madonna chose to use that footage as he didn’t think it was sincere and was used just for publicity, hence why he wasn’t with her. I’m sure it was sincere, but also understand his side. The

Great reaction to a moving song and video 🥹
A daughter learns life and practical lessons from their Mothers and there’s nothing better than a mother’s love and affection. I totally agree that the Madonna we know would not exist today if was not for the early death of her Mother ❤️❤️ the choices and paths she would have chosen to follow would be different as her upbringing would have been so different.
Look forward to your next instalment 😊❤❤

Wow, that completely destroyed me. Your reaction was just beautiful and heartfelt. I lost my Mother 10 yrs ago, but the hole she left is still there, this video just takes me right back there. Just can't imagine what it would feel like to lose your Mum at such a young age, having such few memories and time together. I just love how Madonna always invites us into her deeply personal world, showing all her vulnerabilities. She truly is one of the most remarkable song writers the world has ever seen.

I’ve been a Madonna fan since 1984, and although she’s reinvented herself countless times over the last 40 years, it’s been interesting that the one thing that has been consistent with her is the heartbreak she has endured for losing her mother…
The only time I’ve ever seen her cry in an interview is when her mother was brought into the conversation…
This an extract from that interview of her taking about her mother…

You know what Truth or Dare was titled in the UK??? In Bed With Madonna lol It came from the tagline "On the road, Behind the scenes and In bed with Madonna" The big M says she doesn't like it anymore lol
