    Just saw the film Slash/Back which was filmed in Pangnirtung, using the local population as actors in it, and learned how little I know of this huge land mass just north of me. The town of Pangnirtung wasn't discovered by the outside world until 1929. Among other things I didn't know of were that the Inuit/Eskimo people are that far east of Alaska (yeah well obviously lol). Enjoyed learning more about the northern territories from this vid.
    And the film Slash/Back, enjoyed it immensely. It's a low budget horror flick with rubber monster suits and bad CGI, but the comradery of the four friends of Inuit girls made it fun. Just zone out and enjoy the adventure.

    Corporations should use their shipping fleets to supply northern isolated communities at same prices... as a cost of doing business in the south. They need to make their products available everywhere at similar prices... hook up with the resource industry to wholesale shipping of food up north. Like a company store taking a loss (but it's really subsidized by continuing business in the rest of the country)

    • @XCHDragox115
      @XCHDragox115 5 месяцев назад +1

      There's definitely a lot of potential for them up here. As getting goods up here is expensive, large corporations would definitely have a ton of business if their fleets can do it faster.

    While northern Norway, Sweden or Finland may be in the Arctic they are not barren tundra like the Canadian Arctic. However, as for shipping goods to remote Arctic communities is expensive, so is the transport of people. The cheapest place to go would be Inuvik on the Arctic Ocean as it can be reached by road. By air, the cheapest place to fly to is Iqaliut as their are regular flights of large airplanes from Ottawa by multiple airlines. Going further afield than that is much more expensive as smaller communities are generally served by small prop airplanes; something like the size of a Dash 8. A couple exceptions to this are Cambridge Bay and Resolute; which are centres for research in the Canadian Arctic. Personally I have been to Iqauliut, Arctic Bay, Resolute and a Canadian DND research station on the southeast coast of Devon Island. Their are no permanent settlements on this huge Island. Space agencies have used the interior of the Island to simulate conditions on Mars.

    As an African American I am so intrigued by the Canadian Governments practice of making Public Apologies and recognition of the Government’s responsibility in the Detriment of parts of it’s population. I know an apology doesn’t make up for EVERYTHING but I just wonder if there is even satisfaction to be had from recognition of the plights the government caused.

    Do Inuit people receive reparations? What the government did to the Inuit is pretty messed up, dislocating families and setting up arctic towns which then force a portion of their population into financial struggle. The Canadian government needs to do more for the Nunavut economy especially regarding its native people.

    I wish the government improved good politics to help people there.
    Canada needs immigration to grow, and this place would be considered if it had the basic needs to live in.
    Unfortunately, it is one of the places in the world where the natives are not taking into account.

    Happy Nunavut Day! As a Canadian I noticed the term "Native" used a lot. While generally it refers to the initial population of an area; Canadians prefer Indigenous, or First Nations. Native is considered racist/derogatory. Knit pick aside, such an interesting video! I love channels that focus on highlighting Canada (the good and bad). Much love!
