  • Binding a quilt is the final step in making a new quilt and it can totally change the look of the quilt. This video walks you through making quilt binding, attaching it to the front of the quilt by machine, and then stitching the binding to the back of the quilt by hand.
This is the best quilt binding strategy in my opinion and I am so much happier with my quilts now I use this binding technique. It is slower than binding by machine completely, but the finished product is much neater and I enjoy the process so much more.
Making quilt binding is simple, as is attaching the binding to the quilt. The corners are the trickiest parts, but they're not really difficult. And the best part is, if you get the front right first, then the back basically folds itself into place and you don't even have to worry about it!
This video covers the supplies you'll need to bind your quilt, how to make quilt binding, how to attach quilt binding by machine, and then how to hand sew quilt binding to the back of the quilt.
You need to know how to tie off hand quilting to be able to hand stitch your quilt binding, so check this video for a step-by-step tutorial on this:

You are like the 20 th person that has said they like to hand sew and watch a movie, I can’t do both. Lol I pause and stitch and unpause and pause my sewing. 🤣🤣 I just can’t do two things at once. I love this video. I have watch tons of videos and so many hide the thread which I have been doing but this gives it a touch that I love. ❤️ Thank you for your video

Thank you for watching! I admit I can only quilt while watching something light and fluffy or that I’ve watched before. Otherwise I get distracted and find myself stopping quilting a lot. It’s still progress though! 😁

That is so cute. I never thought of making it show. I'm thinking of even doung some embroidery (fowers) along the binding. It's probably been done... can you tell I'm new? Lol. Thanks for the great idea.

I love the idea of flowers! I’ve never seen that, but I’m sure someone has done it, you’re right! I like to do something a little decorative in the corners, but I’m too impatient to do anything fancy along the sides

@@TheSuitcaseCreative ... I'm always curious about the notion of impatience. I usually am going to start another project anyway, so impatience to do what? Well, that's a bit judgemental, but I was thinking that you're using (looks like) embroidery floss, and I could loop it up, side to side and down, put a french knot in the middle in a few seconds, and it would be a cute occasional interruption in the straight stitches. I'm always designing things in my head. Might have to try. Thanks for the inspiration.

@@smallfootprint2961 I think if I were going to try something like that, I'd want to plan it from the very beginning. If the binding were more involved and fussy, I'd want the quilt to be very simple to balance it out. Normally my quilts are more involved, so the binding being simpler and quicker is appealing :)
