Blind Wave ‘it had Clara first’
Missed her big face
Dear Blind Wave: Please watch some more Classic Doctor Who, and please watch: 'The Tenth Planet,' before: 'Series 10.' That would be great! :)
'Cyberbrig,' should have said: 'Nice To See You, Again!'
When he shot: 'Missy!'
Its probably a bit late now, but can we get a reaction to the season 9 prologue after Last Christmas?
ruclips.net/video/8-fFyrxbSes/видео.html
The Hey Missy song wasn’t scripted by the way, Michelle Gomez came up with it in between takes and they kept it 😂
That's why she said excuse me - it was literally her goofing around on set and they loved it.
And someone made a video of it
fake news was scripted
Frank Jaeger She literally confirms in an interview it wasn’t scripted, look up your stuff 😂
Great Woman
From now on Peter Capaldi’s hair is going to start to go crazy
Setup for needing a haircut. :D
That's when his character becomes more interesting.
I think he looks a lot better with Pertwee hair.
Lol his hair becomes a character just as much as he is it's awesome to watch
The poofier the hair the older he is
>When they think that's the end of Clara
*laughs in Moffatt*
To be fair I love Heaven Sent and Hell Bent.
"Well at least Clara went out on a clean note" **also laughs in Moffatt**
@@firefly24601 She goes out on a more interesting note in Hell Bent.
That's my secret, Cap. It's NEVER the end of Clara.
Wasn't it Jenna Coleman that changed her mind and wanted to do one more season?
(Spoiler for 'last christmas')
I've heard that the ep was meant to end with old Clara, they changed it with it being another dream due to Coleman changing her mind.
"I. AM... _an idiot."_
Can someone explain to me why this is still one of the greatest and most memorable moments in Doctor Who for me?
I think it is Capaldi. He can take a line of dialogue and give it so much passion. Also, the Doctor is finally realizing that despite all his cleverness, he's an idiot too.
Because it’s a flawed character realizing his flaws, finding joy in it, and purpose, and a determination to improve and yet be fine. It’s a character finding himself in an epiphany... but it’s spoken like an anti-climax, after years and years of “the oncoming storm”, boasting “I. Am. Talking!”, the Doctor spent so many years trying to redeem himself, doing good, and finally he’s done with it. He shakes off that yoke of self-importance and just accepts he’s a man. He doesn’t need to save every galaxy to make amends. He can just be... the Doctor.
True Fact: Iron Man took his words and changed them to "I.. AM... Iron Man."
@@mahfuzurchowdhury2765 That's what everyone's _expecting_ though which is why this is better.
For me it's one of the best moments because series 8 was partly about the roles we play and why (Clara's as teacher/companion/girlfriend, Danny's as teacher/soldier/boyfriend, the Doctor's as hero/protector/avuncular figure, even Rusty subverts the usual role a Dalek plays) as well as the Doctor figuring out who he is. Everyone is trying to put him in a box (hero, president, good man, officer etc.), force him to be who they want or need him to be and "I. Am. An idiot" is 12's refusal to accept that, his absolute commitment to just being who he is. It even subverts _our_ expectations of his role because we're all expecting him to say "I. Am. The Doctor !" (watch other reactors and some are even mouthing the words only to be surprised).
Capaldi was one of the finest actors to play the doctor but relatively had some of the least memorable episodes. No one beats Capaldi in a speech on Morales though.
What Eric says at 15:20 is interesting . In Paris comic-con, Jenna Coleman describe both doctors and actors. She said that Matt Smith/Eleven was running in the room around you. While Peter Capaldi/Twelve was making the room turn around him.
That's a cool way of putting it. I assume Ten was trying to be the room
And Jodie is in the room
@@theoledicktwist6247
I’d argue it’d be more accurate to say Chibnal created the wrong room for Jodie.
@@heatherrockwell9012 I can't think of anything for 9 but War within the corner having some kind of crisis

Aaron's emotional reaction to the return of the Brigadier is the kind you would expect from a Classic Who fan.
I love how funny and terrifying Missy is. In two episodes, she quickly overshadowed her previous incarnation.
"The army of the dead will protect the land of the living." I love that line !
I love the fact that Missy asked the Doctor about his soul: "But who, my dear, will save yours?" and then Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart showed up.
I feel like somewhere Joe Grant felt like she was missing something
I'm really enjoying the verbal jousting match between Eric and Aaron. Eric comes up with ideas/predictions, and Aaron has to pretend that he doesn't know whether they come true or not. Especially when he knows they DO come true. I think Aaron's kids are going to believe in Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny until they're 40, he's so good at poker faces, misdirection, distraction...
I got that reference
it's really not that hard, i once made people believe I was kevin costner.

Such an underrated finale.
Calvin’s laugh over Nick Frost killed me

Can someone explain to me who that was? I never got that. Is he someone from the old series?
@@raphael_santiago Yes. He was called the brigadier i think.
@@raphael_santiago Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart. One of the oldest reoccurring characters in Doctor Who, first appearing during the Second Doctor's era and continued to appear with the following Doctors. He's a founder of UNIT.
The Doctor giving the salute is a huge thing, since he never did despite how much the Brigadier and Kate (his daughter) wanted him to.
@@acetrainer44 I see. Thank you!
That scene when the doctor sees that gallifrey isn’t there is one of my favourite scenes of the show, so much pure emotion displayed without saying a word, just the music, and the brilliance of Capaldi, and then the directing.
Michelle Gomez who plays Missy is really such a blessing to the show 🙏🏻 Funnily enough she’s just as bananas in real life and this is why she portrays the character so freaking well
The best companion of later seasons.

I’d put River slightly ahead of Missy.
Just as bananas minus the violence lol
She improvised the singing of "Hey Missy!" and they thought it was nice so they left it in lol she was just bored and had the song stuck in her head

I cannot help but wonder how Eric is going to deal emotionally with the Two Parter situation in series 9. Good luck buddy is all I can say. xD xD xD
Missy is one of the best things to come out of new who.
Funny how the First reflex was "WHAT?! fEMALE MASTER? THEY KILLED DOCTOR WHO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!".......Hello Season 11
The opening with Clara as the Doctor.........Absolutely Brilliant!!!!!
If both 'Mummy on the Orient Express' and 'Flatline' were the strong indicators that the 12th Doctor was finally here fully, then this finale was the confirmation. Despite the whole story arc involving the afterlife and the return of both the Master and the Cybermen, I strongly believe that the whole arc of Series 8, as well as this finale, was all about 12 finally realising who he is and fully becoming the Doctor again. When 12 was introduced, he's just started a whole new regeneration cycle and having regenerated so many times now, he's starting to question if he's the same person as shown through both his confrontation with the Half-Face Droid in 'Deep Breath' and him asking Clara if he's a good man in 'Into the Dalek'. Because of all that, he's been very emotionally-reserved and prickly, but the ending of 'Kill the Moon' was almost like a wake-up call for him and both 'Mummy on the Orient Express' and 'Flatline' were when he was starting to become the Doctor again. With this finale, the speech he delivers in the graveyard to Missy was him finally reaching a catharsis, knowing he's not a monster and becoming 100% the Doctor again. It's from that point on, 12 properly begins.
Ryan Pollard completely agree !!
It is not only that Clara is scattered all over the Doctor's timeline, she is the one who enticed the Time Lords to help him which in turn led to him a new regeneration cycle so basically, the Doctor the, 12th Doctor in particular, exists only because of her, and she was the first face his face saw and all of this will manifest in a grand way through the events of series 9. Just can't wait.☺
The Master, like the Daleks, is destroyed for all time until the next time they come back.
(It's a Doctor Who tradition from days of old!)
And the Cybermen.
Those three are the perennial foes of the Doctor (though the Master didn’t exist until the Third Doctor era).
I'm so hyped that they are finally reaching series 9 which is one of the best of new Who, if not the best
Same. I love Series 9. After my first watch of the series I realised it was my favourite. There are only 2 meh episodes and 1 bad imo. The rest are great. I was shocked when people were so negative towards it a few years back, but it was just trendy to hate Moffat's era back then. I'm glad more people are starting to realize how great his era was.
@@epiccarrot88 People liked the series, they just hated the finale because they were expecting this big standoff between the Doctor and the Timelords. Despite his shortcomings, I believe that Moffat always serves the depth of his narratives rather than giving in to what the fans expect. I love Hell Bent... it's not perfect, but it's a helluva fine conclusion to the Doctor's journey (people think that it's about Clara, but in truth, it's about the Doctor and the danger he can pose if he is driven to the edge) But we'll have a proper debate about this in two months :D
@@jonw9131 A lot of people I talked to didn't like any of the episodes. Even the lake story was called terrible by a good number of people before Hell Bent aired. And I agree, Hell Bent is a great episode. I like having a very personal reason for the Doctor to snap, and seeing the actions he takes because of it.
Series 7 and 8 are my favorites so maybe I'm biased but series 9 is the third from the bottom for me.
I just hate that all the stories besides sleep no more were two parts because I wasn't interested in any of them besides the first.

After the terrible 8, 9 is a IMPORTANT step up, But Season 3 New Who is still the best (Weeping Angels, Library of Silence, The Master)
This is a good finale imo .
It was nice to get Kate Stewart and Unit back again , Osgood’s death was sad because I liked her .
I feel like Danny , like The Doctor , had its own set of prejudices which affected his opinion of the Doctor but I did ultimately like his end ( I just wish they made me care more about his and Clara’s relationship ).

The hug scene and his answer as to why he hates hugs always gets me. When I first watched it I thought he was gonna answer something along the lines of "once you hug someone the next part is letting go of them" but I liked the unexpected answer he gave.
Really enjoyed the discussion this time, well I always do, but for some reason it was really nice to listen to for this episode. From the farewell between Clara and the Doctor, to Gomez's Missy, and so on. Great episode, great reaction and discussion!

I am delighted that Clara is the favorite companion of 3 out of 4 of the guys. (Who is Calvin's?) She is quick, clever, gorgeous and so much more, but above all she is flawed, as is 12, and the way they clash because of their flaws only makes the bond they build through those flaws even stronger and more precious, and their character arcs more special. Everyone has their own golden era, and to me it's 12/Clara because we have the best doctor and best companion played by the best actors, who, together with amazing character writing, elevated the show with the depth and intensity that they brought to their characters and their relationship. I was excited yet nervous when the guys started this season, and the loud minority who desperately wanted them to hate Clara and this season were an eyesore, so it's so satisfying that they adore 12/Capaldi and Clara/Jenna sooo much, and that they really enjoyed this finale, especially the amazing Missy/Michelle Gomez. I am super excited for Last Christmas and s9 now.
Calvin’s is probably a classic who companion.
She's not my *absolute* favorite, but she's up there, and I agree wholeheartedly. (Also, I like how they weren't sucked in by Danny.)

I've definitely got some problems with this episode, especially with a lot of the resolution at the end but... God damn, Michelle Gomez as Missy is just absolutely fantastic. Between the two of them, I'm convinced her and Capaldi could hold even the shittiest episode of Doctor Who together by sheer force of Scottishness alone.
I like the detail of Cyber!Brigadier having black handlebars, indicating that he would have been a Cyberleader.
The Brigadier returns for the Earth's darkest hour. Sounds almost like the king under the mountain legend for King Arthur. Suppose that makes the Doctor the Merlin to his Arthur.
In the seventies, the era of the third Doctor and Brigadier UNIT had a technician/engineer called Osgood, the father of this Osgood.
I mean was it really the real Osgood, though - who actually died here Zygon or a human?
@@mjm3091 It was the Zygon. If it was the human, there'd be an imbalance in the treaty because there's only one Human Osgood, but a Zygon Osgood can just be copied again.

Despite a few flaws, I love the atmosphere of this episode !
But now... well, very soon... we're gonna get into what is for me the absolute best series of NuWho... series 9 is insanely good and I cant wait for them to discover it all !
EDIT: I was curious to see if they'd react to the (all in good fun) stereotype of Americans just bombing and praying shit, but apart from Eric's quick snortle, it wasnt meant to be.
I'd argue that as a whole Series 5 and 6 had a better through-line and story-arc, so I'd call them better seasons as a whole story-wise, but Series 9 definitely had some absolute bangers including the best episode of the entire show, so I'd say they're all the best is some way.
@@giglefreakz I prefer the arc and storyline of 9, even if it has some bum episodes. It is such an interesting and emotionally complex place to leave the Doctor in at the end of Hell Bent.
@@npe9483 Absolutely, I just think the story of the Hybrid could have been integrated a bit more extensively. Like how in Series 5 the crack in time kept appearing and affecting the story and about how Series 6 was very intricate with River Song's story. I just don't think a series-spanning storyline has been done better than in those two series.
Heaven Sent type beat
@@giglefreakz Funny, I actually feel the opposite, which is kinda cool, and speaks to how the show appeals to different people for different reasons. I think 9 is probably Moffat's best, most focused season, while I find 5 & 6 to be chaotic messes of half-cooked ideas that don't coalesce into much of anything.
You could tell how much Eric and Calvin love the twelfth Doctor by the number of times they have been trying to imitate the magical voice of Peter Capaldi - to no avail of course - because it's friggin' Peter Capaldi. 😍 😀

It's probably too late now, but I really wish they'd watch "Genesis of the Daleks" before the season 9 premiere. As it is, only Calvin and maybe Aaron will fully appreciate it.
wonderful finale. not my favourite but in terms of character stuff it might be the very best. the series 9 and 10 finales are the other contenders for that aspect although i would say they are better episodes.
In the episode with House and the human Tardis they mention a Time Lord, I think called The Corsair who The Doctor refers to as being both a man and woman. So it has been mentioned before but in passing. I am guessing to very slowly build up to either this or The Doctor eventually being played by a woman.
Everytime I watch this episode I always think, the Brig is too stubborn to let any cyberman conversion to fully take over him.😂
TBH, I started to freak out when Clara was like 'ClArA haS nEVeR eXsISteD!'
And then she said she was the Doctor and for a split second I was like really???? and then I was like oh wait that's fake
So, I still don't like this season as much as the Trenzalore arc but I have enjoyed this rewatch immensely more than when I saw it first time around. I can't wait for season 9, alongside season 5, it's the best in the whole run of New Who.
Clara pretending to be the Doctor (AGAIN!) is probably my favourite part of 'Death In Heaven'. Not only was Jenna Coleman billed first, it was her eyes at the end of the title sequence this time.
Cyber!Danny is awesome! And he gives the little boy he accidentally killed a second chance at life.
We get the return of UNIT, Kate Stewart and Osgood. Which I love... and they make the Doctor - President of Earth. LOLZ
Missy tries, once again, to take over the world but fails.
"Love is a Promise" - The Doctor Aww!
The lies they tell are heartbreaking... The Doctor didn't find Gallifrey and Danny didn't come back for Clara. BUT, we finally got a hug and a reason why he doesn't like them; they hide your face (your emotions).
I love that Clara tells the Doctor that he made her feel special. And it's a callback to Courtney and how he made her special by taking her in the TARDIS.

@@justsomerandomguyonline1144 because its my favourite episode... whats wrong with it?
IDN Media boring, a waste of Time it was just Capaldi mumbing to himself while walking through corridors, the last 10 minutes got very annoying because Moffat is such a bad writer he had no idea how fill up the time to reach 55 minutes he decided to just repeat the entire episode over and over again. It was dreadful not to mention the next episode made the episode pointless because Clara was brought back afterwards.
@@justsomerandomguyonline1144 nope disagree. yes it was a waste of time as hell bent made heaven sent and face the raven pointess, in that respect i agree, but capaldi's acting was phenomenal, he was piecing together whats happening bit by bit and by the end it all made sense and came together nicely. boring... no as it had a good plot and it was unique and different. and the last ten minutes was great, yes he did it over and over again but seeing how long it took him to break through the wall was painful and made you think how much he cares for clara as he used her death to motivate him to break free of this torture chamber. moffat isnt a bad writer, russel was the same. they write good and bad episodes every writer does. this is one of his standouts and the message behind the episode was subtle but perfect and powerful. i get how people can find it boring, but if you seriously think its bad because of those reasons u gave then clearly u didn't pay attention to the story and you can't critique it without good solid reasons. what you gave is just the stereotype "there was no explosions and romance so it wasnt good" mindset which a lot of people use as a shitty excuse. Heaven sent was unique, original and a good solid episode. If you have the mental capacity to to actually pay attention and see what its about then you'll enjoy it, instead than giving crap reasons. what you said about the ending makes no sense, i can see your a moffat hater. he's not my favourite writer even though this is my favourite episode, but he has some good stories, and those he writes that are good, they are amazing and claimed some of the best ever episodes, like a lot of people say about heaven sent. I personally dont like the series 4 finale as it has a shit ton of badly written moments ans a lot of issues. people don't see them as they are so distracted by the fan service and rose coming back which was awful. that story plot wise was awful. take that and theres a lot of issues, take heaven sent and theres genuinely little to none
@@EmpireEmployeeRick hell bent doesn't make heaven sent pointless at all. it just shows how far the doctor was willing to go to try and save his friend. it doesn't even make face the raven pointless either as the events of that episode still happen just differently to how we thought and how clara and the doctor react to the situation are still the same and still interesting.
agreed with you on the series 4 finale.
While this finale certainly isn’t beloved by everyone, I thoroughly enjoy it, and your reactions to it (both of them) really reminded me of that. Those were two great reactions to both parts (and props to Lono for editing that down).
Loved the long discussion for this and about Capaldi’s first series and Clara as a companion. I don’t think s8 has ever been my least favorite, but I’ve never ranked it very high. It definitely has some moments that I love though, and both Jenna and Peter are so, so good. I love the Doctor and Clara’s relationship, how it sort of unravels to them get pieced together. I’m kind of back and forth on Danny, but I get the point and the stories he was there to tell.
I’ve really been loving the reactions to this series, even to the episodes I’m not as much of a fan of. Especially Eric’s reaction to Capaldi has been amazing.
As for this episode, I’m glad everyone loves Missy! (Because she’s so fine). She’s honestly one of my favorite incarnations of the master. She’s so delightful. Now if only she could come back... Also that Clara and Doctor moment in the diner, and all that followed, glad we got to see some (almost) tears. Capaldi tearing up always gets me.
The Danny moment again I’m a bit... ambivalent about? It’s cool but is it logical, does it have to be logical, etc. I mean, the cybermen have primarily been about erasing emotions, not the entire person, even if that’s how New Who has portrayed it a lot. But it’s also a good point that a lot more cybermen should break their programming. Idk. I enjoy the end result, and it’s a cool send-off for Danny. I enjoyed the discussion about it though!
So much in this discussion that is making me look forward to next week and the next series even more than I was before (and I was already looking forward to it a lot). Aaron has got a great poker face, as usual. I would have failed staying neutral so many times during that discussion.
Also I laughed at Calvin getting the Nick Frost thing (isn’t it perfect) and Eric’s always amusing “HUH?!”.
Also I have to point out, because I find it funny, that so far with Steven Moffat, who’s Scottish, as showrunner, we’ve had a Scottish companion (Karen Gillan)), Scottish Doctor (Peter Capaldi) and Scottish Master (Michelle Gomez). His true plan is revealed at last.

10 said in The Christmas invasion that you can’t hypnotise people to death as the survival instinct is too strong. Human emotions were enough to make a Dalek destroy itself so it’s not too much of a leap that some converted Cybermen can break the programming. Also if Cybermen are so strong why do they need an inhibitor to delete emotions. Why not completely wipe them completely? Also Danny and The Brigadier were soldiers. Their natural instinct to protect innocent life and do their best outweighs soulless robots.
They can't delete them, until they are fully robots. But in most part Cybermen were always humans.
"This is both awesome and stupid at the same time" - Doctor Who in a nutshell.
I can't wait for the Viking episode for the obvious actress to show up.
Capaldi is the best Doctor. Might not have the best episodes at times but his range is unreal. He has moments, like the hug in this one, where shit gets real for a moment and no one else could pull it off.
After watching this season again here, I like it a lot more than I did the first time.
I not. Still a terrible Season, except the Finale, behind the Walls and the Mummy
wow, i never realized the last cyberman at the graveyard was BGLS. I'm glad i watched this. Guess I should start paying more attention.
Scary Poppins! :-D
Almost at series 9, arguably the best series of new-Who.
I always wondered. Missy here is not exactly as much evil as usually was, and her ultimate plan was to give Doctor Cybermen as a present. Heck she orchestrated whole Clara thingy.
So I was always wondering, what if this is post Mondas ship Missy - what if this is Missy that actually survived, took control over Cybermen. And was good, but still too crazy, to not hurt people when wanting to help Doctor.
Heck she also not only made Clara reunite with Doctor, but she also actually saved Danny - allowing him to say goodbye to Clara.
The only real problem I have with this episode is that I think there should've been less full-conversions and instead a ton of partial-conversions. Imagine a bunch of pseudo-cybermen who just have the head fully converted and the rest just as an exoskeleton.
Oh my giddy aunt, I didn't get that reference until now.
The Dalek Girl that loves the Cyberman
Dalek
Aaron using the term Mondasian... and Calvin not wondering how he knows...
Aaron is known to have done his research and write it all down incase he needs it. (We see this in the sontaran episodes) also Mondasian is referenced in several episodes such as nightmare in silver.
"This is both awesome and stupid at the same time" pretty much sums up my feelings about much of Moffat's era.
Love how Aaron's face just crumples at 11:29.
NO LOVE FOR MAN SCOUT.
I love this season but season 9 is my favorite of New Who.
I hate this Season (most of it) but Season 9 is really really better
Clara's eyes in the credits. The Brigadier's portrait on the plane.
You guys have just got 39 episodes to go then that’s you lot officially caught up with the show.
Danny no longer had emotions, but he had the promise. I feel that the show acknowledging that love is more than just an emotion but is also a promise, is the final proof of the inadequacy of the Cybermen to ever truly "win", and I love it.
It's only going to get better from now on. Capaldi is my favorite Doctor but S8 was the one of the weakest seasons IMO. S9 & S10 are miles better.
I hated series 10 more, but series 9?
Series 9 is arguably the best in NewWho
@@ArlanKels Yeah people love or hate S10. Personally I liked how different it was from previous seasons. Also I loved the finale with all the twists and surprises. Capaldi's final speech was amazing. It was a great ending to his run. Then came S11... oh my.

I think S10 bugged me because Bill, and I blame that not due to the actress but the writers.
Her character would sometimes be cowardly, sometimes suicidally brave.
@@ArlanKels sounds very human to me.
I loved both seasons 8 & 9 better than 10.
Completely forgot this was out today! I was a little distracted by my country making an idiot our PM #VoteSaxon
