I both pity and envy you guys in Australia. On one hand, you have access to all these great 70 series and Patrols. On the other hand, you have all these draconian rules and regs preventing you from modifying your vehicles. Here in North America you can do whatever you want to your car and no one cares. I suppose there might be some rules here but no one really pays much attention to it. You know, in the end we probably don't have any different road accident statistics due to modified vehicles. That whole "engineering" fluff, well I'm a mechanical engineer and it makes no difference if you're an engineer. Anyone can just take it for a drive and inspect it and see for themselves if it's good. Just a make work project for micro managers in government.
Definitely right Mark too much bullshit with a lot of governments they love sticking more and more rules and regulations.

Ivan! Simon from the Turners auction days! This is brilliant. I have some questions. How come 4x4 overland in WA doesnt mention engineering on his builds? What happens to rust protection when cutting the roof? You mention troopy variations. I had a trakka conversion and one day after years of work the windscreen started to leak and the rear doors drooped. Is that an eventuality? I currently own a 2020 79 dual cab gxl which i want to set up, i id love to catch up 👍👍👍

Lots of moving parts here and not many staff ..i will track down and follow up sorry ...you should have called its much easier than the mountain of emails i have to wade though and drains our lives away as many of us know !

Can a roof be welded back on?
Can you expand on why the back seats can't go back in?
Head room is lowered with the roof conversion. Rear sits sit higher than the front seats. Not enough head room to safely/legally have rear seats. In other words, hit a bump and someone breaks their neck.
@@aussieadventurenerd8137 Appreciate getting back to me. I'm still doing some more research, spoke to my dealer who did mine and no issues with back seats staying in as long as GVM upgrade done at same time. Also had the tape measure out in a few cars! Got 92 cm in the back of my converted troopy but less in the front when you measure to the parcel shelf. Tall guys would be more concerned about a forehead smash! Was in a little sports car the other day and really no head room in those things. Different rules for different States?? My plate says 5 seater pre rego conversion, with the GVM upgrade. No harm double checking your source. Nice video though - cheers.
The 2 passengers limitation is interesting... So a young family of three is running out of options and may need to go the camper trailer route 😢
or perhaps a normal campervan setup with berths inside and a roof top tent 🤔
