wholeheartedly agree they just dont make couples like this anymore wether to work together on set as actors, or even dare I say it, in the rreal world!!!THANK YOU !!!
The best. At the time, as ground-breaking as Coronation Street had been in 1960's and a template that all soaps have followed since: plot and issue-led storylining covering contemporary issues.
Imagine years later in a different role but with very similar discussions made into comedy. Both of them were amazing together in both the tragedies of Brookside and comedy in Royle Family.
Ron Dickson would have been disappointed when Brookside was closed down perhaps the Omnibus edition affected the weekly ratings. The story line was first class and represented family life in so many ways.
The actor who played Bobby`s son.Damien ,(Simon O`Brian?) said that Brookside was `Like punk rock ` (I.E very raw) and what added to the authenticity was that Tomlinson had been a Union official for real.
the songs in brookie were excelent. loved hearing them shame they never got a release. they did change in the 90's with dance music hitting the scenes. but not that much
What about the people living in the houses on the other side of that diagonal deck fence? Or the other mute properties in the Close, e.g. the house to the left of the Corkhills,
@@JulieRushworth I hate Bobby with a passion he is sick in the head and evil, he is a man of double standards and he is nasty and sick in the head and he did not deserve to be married to Sheila and he had no brain in his head he was screwed up and a loose Cannon. I knew a man like him called Stormy Norman he was nasty and a selfish control, freak like Bobby Grant.
magic rabits. i think you need to watch an episode where residents are in a bar with the tunes and an episode where someone is watching magic rabits and think again. hahahhahha it sounds nothing like the magic rabits. perhaps more pete waterman to me. it has that same beat and style
I WISH THEY BRING BROOKSIDE BACK BRING IT BACK I'M MISSING IT SO MUCH IT'S NOT THE SAME WITHOUT IT SO COME ON PHIL REDMOND BRING IT BACK THE IS A SLOT FOR IT ON CHANNEL FOUR FROM P ARGENT
That toothless guy in the yellow shirt.....is that the same guy who played "Gnasher" in the classic pub scene in the last episode of BOYS FROM THE BLACKSTUFF?
There are all unbelievable videos so far I have enjoyed watching brookside once because I have been watching them on here have you got some more of them there are when Ron Dixon and his family and friends were holding hostage. Matthew and Emily got killed in the car accident. Susannah been pushed to her death by her husband. The drug dealers round the close holding hostage. Margi attacked Susannah when she found out about her and Greg. Leanne spies the acid in Jacqui eyes. Jackie and Shelley cat fight. Ron Dixon shoot the wrong burglary. Jacqui and Katie cat fight in the court case. Sammy leaved her daughter home alone. Sue and Danny been pushed by Barry Grant. The Bangkok storylines and also plus the millennium club exploded that would be great if you have got them
Back in the day when a man said no your not doing that!... And women just had to bloody do what they were told lol. Thankgod those days are gone, I'd have stuck a sleeping pills in that jacket potato, can't lock her out of the house then can he! Lol also arguing infront of that kiddie is a bit wrong.
People like Bobby are control freaks who do not like it if they cannot get their own way I knew a man like that and he tried to control me like an android and in the end I got so hacked off with him I told him to sling his hook
does anyone know who sings the song in the club scene? the guy sings 'set me free why don't you' but its not the supremes/kim wilde song....tried goggling lyrics but to no avail
no you wont find out they had there own songs specially recorded for brookside. i think it was a guy called steve wright who was behind the musical creations
yes i think this was his second to last episode. and actually we didn't even see him leave. just hear an arguement between him and sheila which actually had been recorded from an episode 12 months earlier. a pretty poor send off for one of the shows original characters
adam firth he left the show they couldn't give him a send off because he just walked out the show with no notice because he didn't like they were going to show Bobby as someone who was creaming the money from the strike funds because he was on strike at the time. Even though Bobby grant was a fictional character, Ricky Tomlinsons socialist beliefs were so strong he wouldn't have nothing to do with the way they were going to portray his character.
Yes that is right too as others have said. Although he had been in the series since its start in 1982, he decided to leave in 1988 for those reasons. Not only that but he did not return there and was not seen anymore after that at all. Sheila Grant would later divorce him-well he was not very nice to her after all!-and marry Billy Corkhill, who had already of course been married to Doreen before. They in turn later left the series in September 1990, after which I don't think they ever returned either. Thank you!
It's a shame this show ended.... Then again they couldn't follow through with their storylines.... For every storyline you have to have one starting for that one ending... And they just couldn't compete.... It's like ok we've milked the storyline as much as we can and then we have nothing to do..... Too many explosions in the show
Jimmy Corkhill - the character and his terrible over acting ruined Brookside for me - he was kind all right at the start then they got carried away with themselves and the show turned into The Jimmy Corkhill show - him and the other vile characters like Ron Dixon and the overpowering lass with the big face Claire Sweeney - i stopped watching because of them - i honestly think thats why others did too and the show ended - shame because before that it was the best soap on tv
Finally someone who thinks the same as me. I couldn't stand Jimmy Corkhill. Like you, I thought he was ok at the start but he became nauseating as time went on and they focussed way too much on him and his stupid daughter turned gangster Lindsey (Sweeney). I gave up on it in the end for the exact same reasons as you. All you seem to hear though is people going on about Jimmy whenever Brookside is mentioned but you make a great point that the ratings dropped a lot, leading to the axe, when it was made almost all about him and Ron Dickson moaning all the time.
My Gosh YES YES YES!! An even tho life seemed so much Harser, Harsher was REAL, An REAL was BETTER (In my Humble Opinion!) THANK YOU FOR YOUR INSPIRING COMMENT!!!
interesting how many references to jackie corkhill during jimmy's earlier appearances. but so long before we saw her? it was almost beginning to seem like we would never see her. i know they couldn't have got sue jenkins as she was on corrie at that time but could have got someone else to play the roll of jackie to make occasional appearances.
omg that's terrible dancing... Is that how mums danced in the 80's when they went out clubbing it? Mind you the musics pretty shit and they hadn't been out in a decade... Bring back Brookside!
the dancing has to be made up as it goes along because the music track is added in the dubbing suite later on so you have to dance like there is music playing but actually there is nothing there
Their chemistry together is so believable ! They worked so well together in this and Royle Family! Great actors.
wholeheartedly agree they just dont make couples like this anymore wether to work together on set as actors, or even dare I say it, in the rreal world!!!THANK YOU !!!
Cracking episode loved watching it . Got to visit the street in Liverpool last September. Classic soap . Brookside at its very best.
These two are honestly the best actors I have ever seen !!!
This was a quality soap in its day.
It really wasnt
The best. At the time, as ground-breaking as Coronation Street had been in 1960's and a template that all soaps have followed since: plot and issue-led storylining covering contemporary issues.
One of the best soaps ever! raw and real to life! knocks spots of Eastenders - shame it had to go in 2003 I'm sure it could have been saved.
No way could it survive to many straight acting. ....
Sheila grants hair 😂 😂 😂 ........ can't believe that hairstyle used to be all the rage in the 80's. ......😂😂😂
Bloody ell, Barb!
I can't believe its jim and bab! The famous barry grant! Love you both
Great acting by Sue Johnston here.
I miss Brookside. Love it love it love it☺☺
Ricky and Sue made such a brilliant couple...their scenes were powerful xxx
I'd love to see them as a couple on Coronation Street.
And in the royal family they are still best mates now , they have been for 35yrs
Bobby: “ take that with ya...holy joe!” 😂
"QUICK, BROOKIES ON!!"
Wish this was still on
Aww I miss this show 😢
Me too
Notice there's not a lot of cuts, it looks like most scenes where filmed in one take and look real. Fantastic actors.
The Ozone layer must have been groaning in the 80s, with all that hairspray!
Awww bless Shiela - made me bit sad watching this so raw and real
This was brilliantx brings back memories very funny
