If You Want to Learn Kabbalah, What Should Your Purpose Be?

So, Kabbalah has become very popular over the past few years, almost becoming a pop-sensation. In Breslev and Chassidut as well, many of the books and teaching are based heavily on kabbalah and Kabbalistic ideas, and at times you can read entire paragraphs and pages of holy breslov and hassidic teaching entirely of combinations of letters, gematria, numerical values, and different manifestations of God's name. It almost seems like a math workshop. How is Kabbalah supposed to help you in life? What are you supposed to get out of it? In this inspiring lecture, Rav Dror Moshe Cassouto explains that, as with anything in life, you will find in it what you are looking for in it. If you are looking for God, looking to find God, so you can find him by looking at anything. So if your focus in life is to search for God, so also when you learn Kabbalah, it is an amazing way to see God and open your eyes to understand God better. But if you are looking for honor, respect, and to feel superior with your wisdom and knowledge, so it will give you that, and will spiritually damage you very much. The meaning of life, the purpose of man here on this world, is to nullify himself and to humble himself in from of God (Hashem), and to realize that you can't do anything on your own, and that HE gives all the strength and power, and you will be humbled by that honest realization. Kabbalah study should bring to that feeling of humility, and understand that you don't understand anything, and that the creator runs the show in such a deep and mystical way that all we can do is trust him and strengthen our faith in his ways. That is where kabbalah learning should bring you to; to understand how great God is, to get a glimpse into God's greatness, not to make you feel your own greatness due to your new "wisdom".
