501CTHREE’s first deployed project is The Water Box - a low cost portable water filtration system in Flint, Michigan. 501CTHREE partnered with First Trinity Missionary Baptist Church of Flint who has been on the front lines of Flint’s Water crisis since 2014. The device, already in service at the church, significantly reduces lead and other contaminants from the city water at a rate of 10 gallons per minute and is free to the community.
The residents of Flint need water jugs sent to them through the church. You can donate a jug at www.501cthree.org/

@Adam Mocaby not really, just read about what the earth was like before the flood. It was the creation of cities and large industries that caused the earth to become so polluted. Much like today, the closer you get to a city the worse the air quality becomes. The worse the water becomes and the less wildlife you see. There used to be crawfish in DeKalb county Georgia. There aren't anymore. Only because of the amount of people and the amount of pollutants those people release. The bible warned us. If I'm wrong, use my bible and show me where I'm wrong. Show me that it doesn't read what I said about life before the flood.

It was more acidic because different cities treat water differently and thus PH is different. You dont just dump and filter water to get drinking water, its a whole chemical process to recycle the water we use.
The water treatment the neighboring city used ate through the protective layer on the lead pipes laid down generations ago in flint. (which flint's water treatment had been accounting for over the years, was an over site. A very costly one, but an over site non the less)

this right here fits in so well with what John Green was saying in his video about the hospital in Sierra Leone, people give to charity because it makes them feel better but rarely do they think through how much help they are actually providing. In that case a charity had donated a generator to the hospital which was not compatible with the electrical grid and thus not usable, in this case all these people were donating bottles of water but didn't bother to ask the people of flint how they can create the infrastructure to change the situation rather than just immediate resources. Jaden Amithe and however you pronounce this organisation did that, they sat down to talk with the people at ground zero to find out about doing something together and I think it's amazing.

Have been a technician for Culligan Water filtration systems for over 10 years. Providing multiple water filtration locations for Flint *shouldn't* be too costly of a venture. The whole setup likely costs around $1500, with the filters needing replacement every 3-6 months and the UV bulb needing a replacement every year, as well as some general maintenance, likely monthly in this case.
The cost of the filters would likely be around $60 in total (but no more than $100), and the same for the bulb. General maintenance would only include a checkup on the systems function, checking the filters, and some cleaning.
Far less labor and far cheaper water supply than bottles, and having multiple Water Boxes would allow for less load on each individual system. I'm surprised something like this wasn't already done a long time ago, honestly.
