I saw this performance and I was blown away. I have a master's in music and have worked with multiple corps. It was clean, clean, clean, clean. Sarcasm intended, but if you think that guard only matters if weaponry is used, you are much mistaken. This band has used rifles galore in the past and have found something more beautiful than just showing off.
Christopher Morris Agreed, Christopher. This group blows me away. Their 2011 championship-garnering performance was incredible, and I listen to it all the time at work. I, too, have a masters in music, but I'm telling you, this group plays with more musicality and sensitivity than most musicians I know, amateur OR professional.
I miss guards like this--where the equipment work is written to visually express the music and mood of the show. Now most DCI, BOA and WGI guards seem to have equipment work that is written to express the individual members as opposed to the show itself.
Hi there! I missed seeing Broken Arrow at BOA Finals this year! I feel like Finals would have turned out totally different if BA had been there. Sincerely, a Marian Catholic Band Alumni. P.R.I.D.E.
Jenison loves POBA. How cool to watch this and find out that: your opening piece of music, for Jenison's 2013 "The Path", they used it, too at the 5;44 mark in their show. A smaller band, but 1st place winners at the MCBA state competition, three years running. You can see them if you look up Jenison Marching Band Ford Field 2013.
Watch this and tell me again how you hate swing flags. Breath taking!! I love the uniforms toggling as equipment. Beautiful colorguard, well written, outstanding performance. Flags were awesome, timing was excellent. Camera ... Slow down, you can't always get the whole field. (there had to be a better venue in your season) My God you move too fast and indecisive. Watching this gave me a headache. It's okay to pan, just slowly and gracefully like the guard. Hint: When the band isn't moving, that's when you watch the guard. And lower your tilt to exclude the field lights. They play hell with your auto iris.
For those wondering why Broken Arrow was not at GN this year. Broken Arrow had a performance at Carnegie Hall around the same time as GN. They had to choose one or the other.
The Carnegie Hall performance happened yesterday (April 20th) and GN's were in November of last year. I don't know why they didn't show up to GN's, but the Carnegie Hall performance wasn't the reason.
Rhea Foster You are obviously not a marching band person, and if you are, then you're one of the stupid ones. Color guard does just as much, if not more, to make the performance what it is. Yeah the band can make shapes and things like that, but the color guard is the flair of the marching band, and usually puts on a great show when it's choreographed correctly and efficiently. Take the time to watch this video again and look at the wonderful job BA does in not just the band or music, but the guard as well.
I agree, they are a great color guard but there is just too many of them. I had a tough time even paying attention to the music because all I could think about was that color guard. They were magnificent, but I can't really tell you my thoughts on the rest of the band.
Congrats to the guy in the guard wearing a dress! He must have gotten a lot of crap about that. I dont understand why they didnt give him a modified uniform. Yes a lot of coregraphy uses the skirt, but you can always incorperate him some how with a solo i guess. Unless he idetifies as trans gender, but even then most trans gender will try to look like a woman in a dress, not flat out look like a man in a dress.
+cjbandgeek17 He's wearing a dress to maintain unity. If he had another uniform, it would make him stand out -- even more than he already did. Plus, it was one of the conditions that Wes (the color guard instructor) gave him. If he didn't wear the dress, Wes wouldn't have let him into guard.
Dull = derp. What, do you want a marching bad to satisfy your inability to see beauty? What is it with people and GE? Sit down for 2h43m and listen to Bach's Goldberg variations. Then your comment can be respected.
Talked to many of them in St. Louis, including the guy in color guard. All so humble and nice :))

love pride i was in orchestra but still gotta love the pride kiddos!!!!

Wow. Would've loved to see them at Grand Nationals.
they didnt go to GN
IrishMan I know, that's why I said I would've loved to see them there.
Arguably the best flagwork in the country! Missed you at GN last year. Looking forward to seeing you there this year.

This was one hell of a Copland program. Symphony for Organ at the end was crazy impressive.

No
this was such a great experience to be a part of.
Amazing job guys I'm currently a trombone player at cypress falls
Yeah, wow. This is great. The Woodlands H.S had a very, very strong show although, i definetley believe this would've been second or third.

WHY DIDN'T THEY GO TO GRAND NATIONALS WHAT THE HELL
it had a lot to do with last year at Grand Nats and what happened then. I really wanted to go, marching Utopia was SO much fun
What happened last year?
zRiddick Its a long story..
they got ripped off in my opinion at BOA in 2012 and they were going to St. Louis for BOA in 2013
ding ding
Guess I'm not the only one, but yes why did BA not go to grand nats?
Lmao the woodlands BEET U TO KEVIN THE TROPHY THAT YEAR we finnesed ur title lmao
At BOA Grand Nats.
Nice! Thanks! Can you stabilize this video pretty please? RUclips will do it for you :)

recentral48 ITS VERY EXPENSIVE.
I am in the broken arrow marching band this year and the last year and that is definitely not the reason we didn't go.
Do I hear a bit of American Elegy at the very beginning in the woodwind choir?
broken arrow > woodlands
and carmel... and i march carmel
*that year
No
really dislike the 40-50 flags. It detracts from the wonderful job the band does.
Are you serious????!
totally. it's called marching BAND, not flags & stuff.

Patrick Star yes I can agree I am in color guard

A lot of this reminds me of jenison shows... Just saying

honestly, I didn't think this show was their best. Yes, they are talented, but this show.. i don't know.. it just seemed dull to me.
Dull = derp. What, do you want a marching bad to satisfy your inability to see beauty?
What is it with people and GE? Sit down for 2h43m and listen to Bach's Goldberg variations. Then your comment can be respected.
This show was an off year for us :)
Christopher Morris dear God. My stupid friend, who's in guard, slept over and left that comment. I thought it was nice xD
Hannah Sandoz I honestly find a lot more entertainment in this show than I did in their 2014 production Face Me. Just my opinion.
