I've always liked this version better. I understand that Killswitch Engage are supposed to be more heavy metal in nature, but the screaming bits at the end of verses felt very off in contrast to it's orchestral, soft spoken lyricism.
So... does anyone know why Guitar Hero 3 needed this song remade with different vocals? I prefer this one over the original, but I don't understand why it exists in the first place.
It's not remade. It's a different mix. It's the same mix that exists with the release on Rock Band. The special edition is a partial re-recording, and from what I understand, the drums were redone three separate times for that version. However, the end uses the same drumming mix as the original.
I thin they used a different version because the guitar stands out more in this version. It’s a few songs in Guitar Hero and Rock Band that have the guitar and bass stand out more compared to the original tracks.
They wanted a guitar heavy track from killswitch engage so they used this one but they wanted to make it more guitar focused so they extended the lead guitar and cut out the screaming to focus on the guitar

I love this version. The song is fire in general. But this version went crazy. Guitar Hero III is one of my favorite games ever. Also loved racing to this song in Burnout Paradise.

QuackSpeed I can do the screams kinda of, but I inhale scream, it's kinda hard to do a vocal fry because when I do it, it's not loud like the pros do it

agreed, the non screaming one is just more smoother and imo much more beautiful than the rage/anger coming from the screaming.
