I recently bought a Silberschnitt. Happy with it so far, but your demo helps me understand the best way to use it for curves. After seeing the Brier's bright alignment mark, I took a gold pen and marked my Silberschnitt to aid in placement on the scoreline. I agree that glass is better broken closer to the table surface! Glad I came across your video. Thanks for the demo.
Thankyou so much, lm glad the video helped you. Adding a marker to the Schilberchnitts is a great tip and will make it easier to break the glass. Thanks so much for watching and for commenting. 😊
I love my Silberschnitt running pliers and have recently bought the Silberschnitt circle cutter for a project I have in mind on birds found in my garden. Thanks for the video Peter. 👏👏
Good video Peter. Just a note: The black hole on the top pf the Silberschnitt head (where the top pad clicks in) should align with your score line. In using both tools, I have found that manipulating the head of the "Silbies" is much easier than the Brier - which I found a little cumbersome. Also, the break you did with the blue runners was made a little easier because the corner of the glass sheet was cut off, allowing the tool clear access.
Thanks so much Merlin. The blue Leponitts did a pretty good job but I could have tapped the underside of the glass with the glass scorer head and that can also create the break without needing to go on the side like I did, thats also worked in the past for me. Thanks for watching and thanks for the comment as well. :)
Thank you for the video because I am getting tired of my old running pliers, that I purchased several pairs on Amazon and I cannot find the rubber replacement to fit so now I use them with one on and one off😢 never had a pair of silverschmidt. Nice to see you have new videos
I had a pair of the metal ones as well and got rid of them, I just use my cheap plastic Leponitt running pliers 95% of the time, love them. Thanks for watching and for the comment. :)
Peter, I own the less expensive tool because I do mosaic fun too rarely. I enjoy all of your content and watch to learn; but mostly because I enjoy your personality. Thanks for everything!
Thankyou so much Tonya. You definitely dont need all or the best tools to create mosaics and have fun, they help in situations but in most cases you can work without them. I appreciate your lovely comment very much and thankyou for watching my videos. 🥰
Hello Peter, again, thank you for such a great educational video. I always enjoy watching and learning from you. Also, just on the side, I'm left-handed too, so it is GREAT watching someone do things the way I do them. The Silberschnitt seems less complicated, and so they may be the ones I purchase when I am ready to make this move. As usual you have given us a very unbiased overview, so I will consider both before I make a purchase.
Thankyou very much Ellen, its good to know there is more of us out there that are left handed. I found the that Schilberschnitts were less complicated as well, they also have a deeper throat which means deeper cuts and they were just a natural fit for me breaking closer to the table rather than in the air. Thanks for watching and appreciate your comment. :)
LOL I must admit its good to know about the tool to get the best out of it. The Silberschmitt is very simple to use. Thanks for watching and appreciate your comment. ❤
My pleasure, thats really hard to say because a lot depends on the glass and how thin the strips will be so I cant answer for sure. Thankyou for watching and appreciate your comment. :)
Interesting, I always wondered the differences. The Brier’s are $100 and the others are $58. I think the cheaper ones would be just fine for my needs. Thank you for the information!
Thankyou, yes there is a price difference between the tools, people now have a choice between two tools which is a good thing. They now have a choice which one they prefer and choose accordingly. Thanks for watching and for your comment. :)
Great Video - as always Peter. Would you say - in context of the price point for each of these tools - that the cheaper Leps breaking pliers (the plastic ones you included in the same test as the Silberscnitt and Brier) performed as well/nearly as well? So many tools, so little time and money....... 🙂
Great question Wendy. I love my plastic blue Leponitts, they worked well in this video.providing that you can access around the curve with the short throat. The others especially the Schilberscnitt have a deeper throat for the glass. The blue ones will work but with the schilbercnitts they are easier at breaking the glass successfully. Thanks for watching and appreciate the comment. 😊
That’s a very good point Simon and 2mm stained glass is extremely narrow. I was talking to a supplier of stained glass and he was saying that the “Master or Professional “ stained glass cutters who have been in the industry for a long time are able to work with their glass cutters without using specialist tools. They are able to make precise cuts with very few failures, this is where experience and talent comes together. Thankyou very much for your comment and appreciate you watching. 😊

Thanks Peter. I have the Brier but didn’t know how to use it❤The Silverschmidt seems less complicated.

Thank you!
My pleasure Elena and thankyou for your comment and for watching. 😊
Yay!! Thank you so much for this comparison!! Which do you think does a better job of cutting thin strips?
My pleasure, thats really hard to say because a lot depends on the glass and how thin the strips will be so I cant answer for sure. Thankyou for watching and appreciate your comment. :)
Hard to say? Okay depending on what? Come on pal answer the question.
I have answered it and also given the reason why.

I have been cutting glass since 1979 we just used are glass cutter and 99% we had good cuts for leaded lights and clock faces in 2mm glass

Cost of both glass cutter.
Google it for your nearest retailer in the country you are in.
You know how much glass I waste because mine doesn't break like that I need a new tool
LOL It happens to me as well, the Silberschnitt make it easier. Thanks for watching. :)
