  • Our route along Lake Erie includes no real trails, but the roads are well-shouldered and the views of the lake are fabulous. We are surprised by the amount of grapes harvested for wine through here, and for miles all we can smell is the sweet aroma of grapes ripe for picking. Of course we have to drop in for a wine tasting. We find a beach where we can cool our hot and weary feet, and check out Geneva-On-The-Lake, a shuttered resort town before finding our hotel in Ashtabula. In the morning we make it to Pennsylvania, under a cooling light rain and spectacular tailwinds, to the city of Erie, where we wait out another bout of hard autumn rain. the next day’s ride into Dunkirk takes us into New York, past lighthouses and cute towns. Some of the best riding conditions of our lives along this stretch. Incredible!
