I don't see a need for the tab, but if you thought they weren't selling your info, you're naive. How could a cash back app give away money and still be a profitable business EXCEPT to sell our info? They get the cash for, let's say, Lay's chips from the company that makes the chips on the understanding that they'll turn over the info on who bought the chips, where, and when. It's all about marketing. Social tab or not, they've been sharing your info all along.

I just don't get how they consider you "friends". I have one friend that shows is on my "team". One that shows up in another area of the app and now another person (who I have know idea who they are) on my social tab as a friend. I took them off my friends list. It shows that they live in a state across the country from me. I'm in the group of being wary of the app. I'm not ready to delete, but if they keep doing dumb things like adding friends with people I don't know - it will probably be deleted after I cash in my next reward. It was nice to get extra money from normal shopping. But I have a part time job now and it's not worth the effort if they are going to be dumb. Social and grocery shopping? They don't mix.

It's definitely a security risk for people in abusive/already stalker situations. For example, someone who feels stuck in an abusive relationship; the app could be the only way they get their own income. If their partner catches wind of the app and/or finds out how much they are spending and redeeming through the app, that could be dangerous nevermind lead to them losing their ability to have a personal stash of money.

My thought is that people can't see what items you're buying, BUT...anyone who can see where you've been shopping now has a list of stores at which you might have an online account or store credit card. Depending on the security at each of those stores, and the skill and tenacity of the person doing the prodding, this might give them a leg up to getting your credit card numbers, etc...especially if you participate in those fun little Facebook quizzes and broadcast the answers to possible security questions.
Also, as Julia Marziani pointed out, large grocery purchases might paint a target on your back in the event of food shortages. Preppers beware.

Yes, and that's the case with every smart device. BUT, the selling/sharing is still a different problem from sharing your purchasing habits with others through an easy user interface. That is how they make their money, selling data, after promising privacy. Also, it is not set up this way for the average person, but sophisticated hackers collect our data from everything, and it leads to being able to get into more important accounts. This is not about the NOW but in my opinion a bigger use in the future. And those fun questions on FB? Your favourite first trip etc? I think the biggest risk from this is from people you DO know personally. I live in a small town. If I shop at Walmart, there is only 1 choice. So, if I have a person on there that I referred and now we are no longer friends, in fact have a very toxic relationship, that's where the risks are. Let's say I shop every Tuesday at Walmart. Ding.. easy to find and stalk. They know exactly where to find me and when.
With that said, these situations are hopefully not very prevalent.
