this is the man I call the best Talking drummer in the whole world He is my mentor, I lost contact for too long thank God for Google o this is really an eye opener.... if Anyone wishes to get better in playing the drum pls listen to this great man
I found this very insightful for using the talking drum! I just bought my drum recently and was trying to figure out how to play rhythms for it. I play bass, harmonica, and vocals for a folk punk band and have been exploring new instruments. After learning some of the basics I really think this has a great fit into any acoustic band. It has a very raw feel to it. Thank you for your videos :) They are most helpful!
EPIC RIDDIM! when the tempo was increased it became a powerful word. Please preserve this beautiful tradition brother. In fact, Africans should be taught this as a requirement. Maybe even build upon the old tradition of communication. Recite poems through drum
you are to good i just bought a talking drum and my uncle is teaching me maybe because my ansestors were talking talking drummers but love you videos your a good inspiration
thanks for this platform, am still an armature player, but have been trying to be good, because we needed one here in malaysia, and no one to do that, i hope i can build myself more, to help naija at diaspora
Amazing video. There seems to be missing a very important aspect of the sound, which is variance in the Frequencies of each syllables - which are actually different each time he played each syllable.
Very interesting instrument. Grew up in Cameroon and always saw it on TV but never knew how it was played. I Love UK? Colonial master still have a strong hold huh...lol
Daddy wa, thank you so much for this video o. E ma seun gan. Infact, i am singing i love uk alot now. Please do you where i can buy a gangan in the UK? I am in kent!
Also, there’s an element of “BEND NOTE” which wasn’t discussed. So, sir, you basically played the tones according to your accent. Which is good but it’s only subject to your personal accent and intonations. Someone else would say the same words with different accent and intonations. Speaking of frequencies, well, human frequency range is between 20Hz to 20,000Hz. Talking drum, being a membranous percussive instrument has various harmonics and very rich overtones which usually covers the full frequency range when played, especially when the sound is captured with a microphone that’s has got a wide frequency range as well.
