    Hey! I have my DNS records via koji
    They asked me to add those DNS records to a domain provider and Koji will automatically issue and deploy an HTTPS certificate for my domain
    How do I access a domain provider for free?

    • @NotHershal
      @NotHershal  Год назад

      Access to DNS management should be available through your domain registrar. Is this not the case?

    only 3k views???? This was the best video I have seen for DNS records. To the point and helpful. I discovered that either Firefox or windows stores the old DNS record. It worked on another machine almost instantly but it would not update on my local system that accessed the old record.

    • @NotHershal
      @NotHershal  2 года назад

      Yes, windows stores DNS records on a file (I don't recall the location of this file). This file can also be manipulated to point domains to a particular IP address or even another domain! Good for pranking people :)

      Hi! Have you figured this out? I would need more information to understand the issue. Can you send me the URL to the website (either a temp URL or IP address) and the domain that you are trying to direct to the site?

    • @NotHershal

      TXT records are handled the same way. You would just create a TXT record and copy/paste the contents of the record according to your host's requirements. This is usually used for verification of domain ownership.

    Bro thank you so much for this, from my understanding you didn't have to create an ec2 instance in order to link your domain to the IP address in lightsail, is this correct?

      Correct. I only used EC2/Lightsail as an example. Thanks for the feedback!

    Was helpful, however there is Host* square in your video, I have it named Name* and it says "blog or shop" do I write there "blog" or do I do it like you - write "@"?

    • @NotHershal
      @NotHershal  Год назад +1

      For CNAME, if you use the word "blog" or "shop" in the host/name/hostname field, then that will create a subdomain such as "shop.yoursite.com" or "blog.yoursite.com". But if you want just "yoursite.com", then you use "@" in the name field. And if you "www.yoursite.com", you'll have create that CNAME and configure it to work.

    • @soparotak_music

      @@NotHershal Thank you, The "@" thing is not working with CNAME, it works only with IP, error shows. My domain name is only working with www , simple domain name is not working. Do you know what to do, so it goes to same content with www and without it?

    The video is well explained but I still have a question I couldn't figure out yet.
    If I point my domain to my hosting provider and the user is clicking for example on the logo of my Word Press website, what will the user see in the address bar of his browser? Will he see the domain name or the IP adress?
    I'm asking this question because I had issues. While I was pointing my domain to a hosting provider every link in WordPress showed the subdomain of the hosting provider in the address bar. I don't know if that's a big deal but I don't want this. For the user it should look like he's at my domain or I did got the whole concept of this DNS pointing wrong.

    • @NotHershal
      @NotHershal  Год назад +1

      BEFORE YOU READ THIS, please understand that changing domain in Wordpress can break the site. If you lose front-end access (via browser) to your Wordpress install, you'll need some basic PHP knowledge to fix the issue:
      For a self-hosted Wordpress install, you have to change the URL in the Wordpress settings. If you hosting provider has an advanced managed Wordpress setup, then it's probably best to switch the URL in the hosting provider's Wordpress management interface first, then change it in Wordpress.
      Reply with the URL to your site and I can likely help you further.

    • @WhereIsTheSpartan
      @WhereIsTheSpartan Год назад

      @@NotHershal First of all thanks your reply. Sadly I deleted the site at the hosting provider because I couldn't make it to work.
      Actually the task is easy (at least from my view):
      When I'm hovering over any link on my site the browser should display "www.mydomain.com/link" in the status bar. Not "mysite.hostingprovider.com/link".
      Although I connected my domain to my site every link on my Wordpress site was displayed as "mysite.hostingprovider.com/link". I don't want that.

    why we not change the nameservers

    • @NotHershal
      @NotHershal  2 года назад

      Changing nameservers assumes that the target servers have the ability to manage DNS. You can go this route, but not all hosts have full DNS management, however most registrars do. If you're using a host that has full DNS Management built into their user interface, than that is a great option!

    I purchased a domain and I wanna host it’s on my machine I have a static IP port forwarded

    • @NotHershal
      @NotHershal  3 года назад

      public HTTP port is port 80 by default on all browsers (ex. google.com:80 = google.com). So you'd just need to forward public port 80 to the IP and port on your local machine.

    • @NotHershal
      @NotHershal  3 года назад +1

      then you'd just create an A Record directly to your public static IP (without the need for specifying the port).

      @@NotHershal I’m not sure where I would do that ..

    • @NotHershal
      @NotHershal  3 года назад +1

      That's exactly right. You would create an "A Record" in Cloudflare in the "DNS" section that points to your public IP. Are you able to access your website by going to the URL?
      Thanks for the kind words and encouragement! I'm just trying to help people get started and secure on the internet! Thanks again.
