In Canada, we have had countless +50lb Trout regularly on camera. Lake Wollaston, Lake Diefenbaker and Great Slave Lake are just a few lakes to name that regularly produce bigger trout than this. This definitely not arguably the biggest trout ever caught on camera, maybe in New Zealand though.

There is more than one Trout record. Lake Trout, Rainbow Trout, Brown, Brook to name some. Lake trout in the Northwest Territories get upwards of 50-70 lbs. Record is over 70lbs I believe from Great Slave Lake or Great Bear Lake. World record brook trout was caught in my Region the Nipigon river at just over 14lbs.

You mean Lake trout? Largest Brown was caught in New Zealand, and the records before it too. I think Canada has had some of the record Rainbows, but generally I've only seen people catching fingerlings and getting all hyped over 15 inchers in Canada and the states, thanks.

Fly rod to be specific, one man fishing, one holding a tiny net of which the Trout did not fit, caught near the Reitlgraben oppisite the St Bartholoma Kirche, where the Tourt is on display you most welcome to view it (for the record). As for the genetics the Trout was estimated to be 60 + years old in 1976.

Hint. if you get caught out with a fish that's to heavy for the scales, there is a solution.
You need some rope. Tie one end of the rope to a fixed point that's high enough so that when you weigh the fish, it's not going to be on the ground. Put fish in bag or net for weighing and pass rope freely through part of net/bag so that you can attach scales to the lose end of rope. Now pull the scales up so they are on the same level as the fixed end of rope so the rope forms a sort of "V".
Read the scales and double the vale to reveal the true weight.
_If you have a fixed point and scales on the other end of the rope, what ever you're weighing, provided that it's free to move on that rope and is at the bottom of the "V", what ever you're scales read is half the true weight. The fixed point taking up the other 1/2 of the weight. But you have to make sure that the fixed end and the scales are at the same height._
That aside. What a stoking fish. A real _clonker_ as we'd say in the UK. And to see other huge trout just _lazing about._ Awesome!!

ive fished in south island especially around the Remarkables and Southern Alps..I caught some decent trout( and a few enormous eels)..I did see some big boys over 20lb but I never got them to take a lure or fly..they really are very crafty and will follow the lure into your feet..but just won't take it properly..it's very frustrating..some of the locals reckon that the reason they get so big is because they turn cannibal and also take mice on the surface..I have since seen this on a David Attenborough documentary but didn't witness it in NZ..
If you love trout and like clean air and cold clear water..along with awesome lord of the rings scenery..south island is hard to beat..and the trout really are the biggest you'll ever see even if you probably won't catch a big boy..

I've never understood why somewhat experienced anglers like this guy love to stare at the bend in the rod. The bend has nothing to do with anything. Large fish should be managed by feel and the rod should be an extension of you/your arm. If he were to break the world record, it shouldn't be counted and besides it cannot be much fun fishing a ditch. The best experience is getting the waders and wading boots on and fly fishing a stream where you have to find the holding water or feeding lanes, manage conflicting currents to ensure a drag free drift and fishing what they are eating. Yup, fly fishing in my opinion is the only way to fish.

There is no comma in the title after "trout", and the caption restricts the challenge to trout caught in 2015 that were also filmed while being caught. Misleading? Only if you misinterpret the title and don't read the caption. Still, the tackle was successfully tested which was the point of this commercial.

Yeah, but the trout size are controversial.
They only get that big from the farm feed that runs off the farm, so is not truly wild trout size. I don't know.

salmon fisherman already figured out to switch the treble hooks out for single hooks as its less likely to lose a fish. treble hooks work against each other making it easier to pop the hook. single hooks make it easier to penetrate with all the force going into one point rather than three....change out trout and salmon lures with single siwash hooks and you wont lose fish. Gamagatsu hooks or nothing.

Trout come a lot bigger than that. I went fishing in Northern Canada and I caught 1 over 20 lbs and 1 over 30. They were Lake Trout. At the fish plant there they showed us one that was 60 lbs. and at a museum there is one that is 102 lbs!

We all know it's the salmon farms. Half the pellets tossed in to feed the buggers fall through the nets. The salmon outside the enclosures gorge themselves. With all the clean mountain water flowing past, the fish grow to unnatural sizes. I watched a show on this exact topic. It makes for some fun fishing.

A point to ponder is why fish and mammals grow much larger in the Alaska/Canadian North than do the same species in the south in spite of the long, dark sub zero winters.
To date I have never heard a theory of any substance to explain why this occurs.
There are many unproven theories such as the cause is Sub Arctic intense, long day sumner sun light followed by months of darkness to its due to better nutrients in the flora and fauna.
To date none of tbe current hypothesis hold up under careful examination.
So, if the Kiwis figure why their fish grow so large in certain areas let us know and it may help us figure out our puzzle.
If we can figure it out what makes our fish, resident birds, deer, lynx etc to grow so quickly large we might be able to make a buck by freezing whatever it is and shipping it South to the fair weather lands so they can give their little fish a boost.😉
    Tight lines,
    Innuvik, NWT.
Ps Record 102 l Lake Trout caught in Carcross BC Canada. Last time I was there it was mounted in the lo by of the local hotel.

I dont know, unless that fish ate 10+lbs of lead weights I dont see how that could possibly be 37lbs. Its a nice catch but I would be surprised if it was over 27lbs. I am comparing it to kings though, so it is a really nice brown. The biggest Ive caught was about 15lbs.

I can tell you now that it's the salmon pellets. They pump the salmon with growth hormones to get to size quicker through their pellets. They also use dye to give the flesh pink colour. The huge amount of snails is thanks to the amount of fish and pellet waste on the bottom. These trout are captive and stocked so any talk of records aren't really legitimate.
