I loved how he ended it with "Schoolwork is a big part of IBEW" (paraphrase). Short and succinct. This is not an easy profession, it is for professionals that don't take the easy way out!
My 18 year old son just applied for the IBEW 26. He will be graduating from electrician trade school soon. Now I am feeling maybe it was a waste of time and money my husband and I paid.
Hey Latasha I am reading comments and just came across yours and I am sorry I didn't reply sooner, did your son get into 26? I'm sorry you feel like the money was wasted but it might have improved his chances of getting in. So how is he doing?
Hey man I was thinking about applying for local 3 i would like to know would I have to do 5 years of school? I graduated from apex which is equivalent to two years (900) hours also I been on the field for 4 1/2 years currently making $26 hour also work nonunion
Short answer is yes. But each local is different. There isn't a training program that exists outside of the jatc that can compare to the training of the country's oldest electrical union. Trust me when I tell you it will be worth it. It's more than the money in the pocket. The benefits of good insurance, a good retirement, raises you don't have to ask for, an organization that protects you from the abuses an employer may want to inflict. Local 3 is legendary in the IBEW if you can get in do not hesitate!
I went to APEX too, I'm starting my orientation for Local 3 in Feb. I will still have to go to school, but I watched a RUclipsr in Local 3(JWong) who has his Bachelor's and he said that he only had to do 20 credits worth of classes, I have my Bachelor's as well so hopefully I'm looking at the same.
Has A. Yea I think he had no electrical experience just the school credits my issue is I don’t mind going to school for a year or two much less five & you just applied or?
I’m 56 years old. I’ll be close to 57 if I get through the entire process. I have decent old man strength and some agility, will the physical rigors still be too demanding for an older guy like me?

what if i don’t have experience as being a helper. also have a 4 year degree
You need zero experience to begin. Your degree will help but the work still needs to be put in to become a journeyman wireman.
Very helpful my friend

To say no would be age discrimination, we don't do age discrimination. There's a place for all workers who meet the requirements!
