- After years of delays, reported reboots, controversies and numerous studio departures, Skull and Bones is here. As a $70 "quadruple-A" live service title, it's all about sailing around during the Golden Age of Piracy and making a name for yourself.
Unfortunately, you're one of many other Kingpins in this forgettable story, with most of your tasks revolving around delivering items and destroying other ships. While the combat and sailing are decent, the gameplay gets repetitive quickly due to a lack of variety, unimaginative objectives and tedious back and forth, and that's before the end game.
When the best thing you can say is "not a complete mess," you know there are fundamental problems.

I play Ac4 to this day. My Favorite. It's probably $5 and worth more than this $70 crap.
I literally bought AC4 because this game was a massive disappointment. Luckily Ubisoft had a sale going on

I got into far cry late, first played #5 which was fun as hell. Far cry 6 was a drop off but was still pretty damn fun.

To be honest, shoting something an a 45° provides the maximum horizontal distance posible, but if that's the only posible angle then, what a disaster

What's worse? Regardless at which direction you are shooting from, you can spam the attack button to shoot ALL of your cannons.

The funny thing is Ubisoft chase these live service games to get big bucks that they see others make, but in doing so they spend millions and millions only to bring out boring slogs of titles that get bombed on and yet they seem to not realise that if they just made great single player games again without the live service or tactics that are in to keep people playing over and over they would make so much more money than Skull and bores is going to make

Even if a live service game sucks it will eventually bring in more money than the majority of single-player games. Why risk spending hundreds of millions on a single-player game that could flop when you can make trash live service that's almost guaranteed to generate profit in the future.

Red dead redemption 2 took 8 years to make and there are details that even veteran players are still finding out yet this crap took 11 YEARS!!!!!
Development hell can do that man. I'm just glad it eventually released as something. Literally anything. For awhile there it was looking like it would be the next half-life 3.

Apparently they wanted to cancel it, but as they had borrowed huge amounts of money of some dodgy country, it had to be released.
They had a contract with the Singaporian government. They had to release it
And for $70 nonetheless. So glad I resisted the urge to buy this and instead found a $30 game on Steam that was on sale for $8 that I have really been enjoying so far

Ubisoft never disappoint to make boring/blend and repetitive open world games.
I'm surprised anyone had good expectations of this game. It was in development hell for years most people assumed it was canceled for a long time. I knew that anything that releases would be trash.

Women would not have been on any ship in this period. It was considered bad luck, and Pirates and other sailors/Navy were very superstitious.

Since cyberpunk, I've never pre-ordered a game or gotten excited about anything. Games used to be, must buy or wait until it's on sale then buy. Nowadays they are avoid, or wait until it's free on game pass.

It's ultimately OUR fault. We let them get away with giving us lazy crap for several years and we're just now deciding to stop giving them our money.

Fair review but has misinformation on core game mechanics. When collecting pieces of 8 from your manufacturing facilities, you don't PVP. No one is going to sink your ship. Once every 24 hours you'll get an offer to enter a PVP event to double the 8 in your cargo hold by racing to an outpost while other players can take you out. You can simply decline this. You also don't have to PVP to claim manufacturing facilities. There is a PVE option to claim them all, albeit a little slower. You can play S&B and never have to PVP if you don't want to.

'Sid Meier's Pirates!' set the standard decades ago. Could have had a big hit if they followed that design.

The game is not bad for what it is. Ofcourse it is not perfect and need fixes but the game’s loop is fun and the end game if anything else looks promising.
I was wondering if I should give this a try with all the negative comments and I am glad I did try it.

Skulls and Bones is made for investors, not for Gamers. The game mechanics is as much you'd expect from mobile games. With atrocious MTXs and Pre-orders designed to milk a sinking ship. The team clearly has talent, but it was steered off into an iceberg by the creative directors. Shame,

Simply the fact that their PIRATE game has a rank named "Kingpin" is enough to let you know that the people working on this game had almost no vested interest in pirates whatsoever.
Amazing how barely AA the walking-around-on-an-island part looks, from the look of the controls, the animation, the 2008 graphics, surprisingly low texture quality and just overall aesthetics.

11:03 SERIOUSLY I have so many and it’s annoying to transport. I wish they would just let me drop them off at any outpost. The past day or so my double up been glitched and won’t double up my ENTIRE inventory or eights, just the ONE I doubled on now when the other day is doubled everything before and after the double. I pulled like 2.6k and now it’s bugged. Won’t do it again when I’m sure my double would be like 4k

@@Sinjin_Sayre Fully auto, semi auto, either way, both wrong and immersion breaking. No AC3, AC4 or AC Rogue cannons can be fired like that, aside from the little swivel cannon that had a limited number of shots and could only be used to hit weak points and fire barrels, at very specific times. Neither can real ones. Non had first person shooter shotgun crosshairs either. Or HH grenade launcher sites😂. This game is trash, because it isn't what we were promised

Friends & I essentially completed the game in Open Beta- He got the best ship at the time but there isn't much after and says the map is the same

I’d probably say it’ll be £20 in a month, rather than a few. My wife was really excited about it, so I bought it for her for Valentine’s Day. I haven’t seen a single positive review of it. Most players, even while playing casually, have hit endgame within a week (myself included), and are very disappointed. And lastly, there doesn’t seem to be that many people playing. The most I saw yesterday, on Xbox, was six (on a server for 20). 😅

The lot of you do realize that this isn't on the devs for how it was delivered. Sure the game is not in an ideal state for launched games but the fact they tried their best under the circumstances they were under, it is best to view this games state as a foundation to apply better polish, new ships, expanding the map and offering new ways to enjoy the open world and it's content. And lets be frank this game was obligated to be released. Give the development team a break.

How did pirates deal with possible pregnant crew on ships in the 18th century? It had to happen at some point. I need to read up on the subject. Anyone have any books written after 2019 on the subject?
This game is a mobile game time waster and that’s it. Enjoyment to be had for just those looking to turn their brain off and relax. Because in no way does this look like an exciting pirate game experience, nor would this ever become “AAAA”. Real pirate fun comes from games like Black Flag, and even Sea of Thieves. Who knows, maybe this game will change for the better in the future, but knowing Ubisoft, the damage has already been done.
Remember how Black Flag had historical accuracy? Mary parented to be a man to be taken seriously, Adewale couldn't be Jackdaw captain... Well screw that is 2024 and we couldn't care less about those things, right?
This game is a glorified beta test thats released into early acess and asking 70$ for it.
When I found out in the first place that there was gonna be no land combat, exploration, etc, from that second I said NOPE...

The title to this video is incorrect. Disappointment by definition is based on one’s hopes and expectations. For this game, there were none.

I guess some devs are just simply unable to learn from past mistakes.
It’s a pretty good game but the end game loop and grind is a bit ridiculous. It has a pretty sickening loop mechanic where you have to keep “funding” your manufacturers or else they stop producing pieces of eight. I get dumping silver in them to get them going again after completing a cycle but this is a bit predatory to keep you on the hook. Also, the man hating propaganda is a bit too much. The for modern audiences ship crew and shanties are bit tiresome. The character is a bit wonky moving around on land. Constantly facing the wind. You’re slowed down more than not. Love the ship combat and there are some quality of life features, namely fast travel and trading. You can trade practically anything.
What do you do with a drunken sailor?! TAKE HIS 70 DOLLARS
After over 10 years of development HELL, this game being DOA should not be surprising. I expect Ubisoft to announce shutdown of live servers in about 2 years. Between 2022 - 2023 they shutdown like 4 dead live service games. This game will be no different.

I'm enjoying it. It's fun to hop on and destroy a few ships after work. Like Riders Republic, I can see myself coming back to it every so often in the future.
