After watching your review last week I just couldn’t stop thinking about this watch. I was lucky to find one of these as a display model, and with an $800 mark-down from MSRP I couldn’t resist.
I agree with everything you said about this watch. The dial is just magnificent, as are the little details like the pushers and crown. Mine reads at +/-0 SPD on the timegrapher, changing to +7 when on its side, which I consider excellent. In regular wear I’m gaining about 2 seconds per day, which I’m extremely happy with.
Where I think the column wheel and vertical clutch are benefit is in the feel of the start, stop and reset, and how the hands all spring back to 0 perfectly. I own a number of other chronographs and those with column wheel movements are almost always superior, at least in feel. Of course, as a modular movement with three separate clutches I’m sure service will be more expensive on this than my other watches.
I really enjoyed the review, and so far, I’m really enjoying the watch. Thank you.

I have an Invicta with a NE88 automatic Chronograph basically the same movement just rebranded for third party sellers.

Having handled one it is a nice watch, the new release SARX069 is the same watch with a 6R35 movement without chronograph (same bezel, thus making it Seiko's Sinn 104) for under $1000 new.

Thank you for another great video. So interesting, so much great information on the history and layout of the movements.

I love that you put it on the timegrapher and show the movement's performance. As for the three separate clutches, are they experiencing less load than one? Presumably.
Seiko's own 7016 movement has smooth running registers. Perhaps echoing those? Considering Omega revived their Lemania 321 calibre, would you want Seiko to revive the 7016?

Very attractive watch. Really wish seiko had more modern mechanical chronographs. The brightz is thicccc and the ananta too. If they made a thinner auto or even a hand winding chronograph movement for this watch it would be much nicer. And the fact that your getting 7000 series DNA in a $3500 watch seems like a stretch.

Hi S&S, thanks for answering my questions in so much detail yet again. I loved the review of the presage 55th Anniversary collection, and your kids made me smile all the way through the review. They are at a very precious age (my kids are at the same age, but I don't have one as young as Sebastian). My questions for next mail call is: 1. I have been on the lookout for an all original 7549 7010, but they appear to be very few available in good condition at a price I am prepared to pay. I have been looking at the SBBN 031 on the Seiya Japan website, which is the nearest modern incarnation of the original tuna as far as I can tell. What is your opinion of the movement in the SBBN 031 in comparison to the 7549 7010, and how would servicing for it be like in the future, if servicing is at all possible? 2. My reason for wearing watches is because of how they look. I don't have a timegrapher, and I am not bothered about the accuracy or the amplitude of a watch. Do you think your inability to wear a watch with poor numbers is due to your profession? Many thanks, Neel

OMG another watch nerd...just learned from you this is a module chrono and makes sense since the minutes and hours registers operate independently of the sweep seconds! Was contemplating this but got instead the SRQ033 Porco Rosso and not sorry I did. Like its namesake it is a porky watch which shares the 8R48. Love your review and watch. Thumbs up.

(This comment is partially for the mail call, but I figure it fits best on this video.)
Spencer, the 4R35 in my custom SNK runs incredibly well. My friend who built the watch regulated it on a timegrapher and got 290° amplitude and no beat error. On wrist it gains less than a second a day. They do have potential.

Awesome review Spence. I really love the old Seiko chronographs, e.g. SpeedTimer, Bull-Heads, etc...One day I hope they can make a more affordable (less than $1,200) reissue of the Speedtimer. I doubt that will ever happen. But I'm prepared to buy one if it does. :)

A beautiful watch but awfully expensive for a rather average movement as a base. I’m interested to see how it wears over time for you.

Hi Spencer, congratulations with your SRQ031!! Which rally strap is that which you got on the piece? It might look nice on my 6020 pulsations. I don't want to beat up the chicklet bracelet so I am looking for a leather strap.

Long gone. It was too nice to wear, and also LE so I just couldn't even take it out of the box since I knew I wouldn't wear it much so no real incentive to do so.

Thank you for making this video. The fact that I'm losing 6-7 secs/day with my SRQ031 really bugs me for the price I paid for it. I considered selling it for this very reason, but I concluded that the looks of the watch outweigh it. I'd like to have mine regulated at some point, maybe once the warranty is up, but it's really an exceptional watch despite it being slow. It could be even slower I suppose so I shouldn't complain. Thanks again for the info and your insight

    • @SpencerKleinVintageWatch

What's annoying is that this watch is, essentially, just a 7xxx series three-hand movement, with the chrono module bolted onto the front. So, thinking about it from that perspective, 7 s/d is actually awesome. I'll regulate mine and see what happens.

Fantastic looking watch but the size of it is the only thing that disappointed me about this one.

That’s how the date should be configured if they have to add a date at the 4:30. But a no date would be better.

Very good review Spencer. I thought long and hard about this one, but ultimately decided against it. (The 50th edition was easy. If it were a real panda you'd feel sorry for the poor thing with those cockeyed black eyes.) Two big negatives were the slab sides combined with the tall height and the lack of a more bespoke movement. Now that I've seen it in motion I'm questioning my decision.

Lol... cant believe watch companies make a newly designed chronograph 16mm thicc. How many years and they cant even make it slim. I understand if they do it with a 7750 which is in production for 200 years but a newly designed movement?? Get outta here
