Love to watch this kind of project video. As a new car dealership mechanic (40 years in the industry) I have a Very low skill level working with wood. But I understand the effort needed to establish a quality skill set. Making it look easy is the culmination of hard-earned craftsmanship.
Grandpa is one talented guy. Works harder than most youngsters I Have working for me today, and look at the knowledge set he brings to the job. I hope his family appreciates him. Great job!👍👍👍👍👍👍👌👌
incase I don`t say it enough you are amazing! Gorgeous and talented - absolutely LOVE your hair like this... I am so bad at measuring around framing and trim and translate it to a cut on the planks lol Love watching you do this!
My father owned a lumber yard and built homes in the 1950s and 60s. He put hardwood floors in every home, including both homes he built for our family. My sister and I liked scooting around the wood floors in our socks.
Not all families are so blessed to have a grandpa that's worth his weight every step of the way. You amaze me every time. May this Christmas be a special blessing for the whole family. Greetings and best wishes from South Africa.
Looking beautiful. Modern air tools are so nice. I remember my dad installing our floors in 60's when the hammer blow had to furnish all the energy to drive a cut nail through the oak and SYP subfloor. And the boards were old school narrow, about 2.5 inches. He was tired at the end of the day. :-) Thanks for reminding me of those times with him.
At 75, like your gramps I keep doing. We old-timers have to keep doing and did learn a few things along the way. You have a great family. Family makes your channel very special.
Did this as a teenager back in the 1970's with my dad for a bunch of summers. 2 1/4" wide oak usually. No pneumatic nailer back then. The mallet has two sides. Rubber on one and steel on the other. You would knock the wood into place with the rubber, and on the upswing spin the hammer to strike the nailer. And keep moving. Once in the groove of it there is a definite rhythm to it all. We were paid by the square foot so speed was a big factor. Back breaking work. But it kept me out of trouble and I made a fair amount of money. Then it was off to college...
Hi, M: Tell granpa I know how he feels when the cramps and aches and pains come with hard work. But it is a real blessing from the Lord that he is able to continue doing such fine work. And you are right, Emerald, that wood finish is something else. Your mother is going to be very pleased. Bruce Howard, MG
I did "Hardwood" flooring in the late 60's into early 70's. It was usually Red Oak in about 2-1/2" tongue & groove. No piece was over about 3 feet long. It was not finished so asap after installation it had to be sanded & finished. I didn't do the sanding but I did the finish. Poly Urethane. It sure was a strong finish. ben/ michigan
The wood looks so beautiful. We live in Missouri and had a custom 3 seasons porch built in 2006. We got natural cedar , 2x6 milled locally tongue and grove for floor and ceiling. Absolutely beautiful, looks as nice today as when brand new. And built by an old school carpenter.
Looks good! The flooring nailer is just murder on old arms. Mine are a bit younger than Grandpa's, I was wincing with every hit. It's the hand holding the nailer that gets it the worst, not to mention the back and knees. Mad respect.
Looks like you got the furry four legged inspectors approval. Great looking floor. You're keeping grandpa young and healthy by giving him all this exercise.
Hermosas chicas, hermosa familia, Feliz Navidad y excelente 2025, un abrazo. Beautiful girls, beautiful family, Merry Christmas and a great 2025, a hug.
I'm a Older man in my 70s now . When I was young and Old Timer told me I can do everything I used to do just not as fast . Been in The Trades my whole life and that saying is somewhat true . Getting ready to build some custom cabinets for my wife one thing for sure it's not going to go fast . LOL good luck with the flooring project I don't think I could handle that anymore my knees and a bad hip .
Nice work Grandpa! I know she'll love it! The guy I bought my house from did his own laminate floors over some sort of soft fiber on a slab. The boards move around with the end joints opening and the edges buckling so I know that kind of work takes more skill than just willpower!
Awesome! Today we just bought some 3/4 inch oak flooring for a kitchen job in our 1939 craftsman house. Only spent half as much by getting left overs, still in the box on market place. You have already taught me about which staple gun to use. Thanks.
My favorite floor has always been rough sawn quartered white oak with an oil looking finish. Looks like a million bucks. Gives you that old English manor house feel.
Hey Emerald, it is so so nice this beautiful hardwoodfloors.🥰🥰I have learned the profession of interior decorator and therefore know all the more the effort of your grandfather to lay this floor. We use clamps that are screwed to keep the floor elastic on the surface so that the wood can work and does not turn up due to temperature fluctuations. It's more work but more efficient than with nails. I have great respect for your grandfather. God bless him 🙌🙌🙏🏽 I wish you all a blessed Christmas 🥰😘
LCLY, Beautiful Floors. Grampa is A Machine "Oldschool".Get yourself a set of Lambswool covered slides{Home Depot} Slide Furniture around without lifting. God Bless
Le petit jeune n’a pas la même résistance que papy il est déjà assis le grand père c’est un dur à cuire toujours debout c’est très beau le parquet bon boulot les pros 👍
I like how Grandpa knows just how much foot pressure he needs to help align those boards when getting ready to staple them in. Progress looks great. Disappointed that no one chucked one of those unused floor boards for Puppo to retrieve though.
Doing that floor for his “little girl” means WAY more to Grandpa than most gifts. You can see the love and care he puts into every board and when he speaks of it his love shines through. Terri and Ken, you’re so fortunate to have taken the opportunity to spend so much time with him and to have kept him near to you both physically and emotionally. We all need to take a close look at our own lives and foster similar relationships while we can. Emerald, Jade, Judah and the other kids, you’ll have similar opportunities in your futures too. I’m sure you won’t let them slip by you.
Love your channel, but installing the the floor had a problem. You should not hammer directly to the panel, but use a scrap wood cut from the panel to hammer it tight
Do they sale engineered hard Wood flooring, I'm looking to install stuff that looks hand plained. Yours looks great. I remember installing 3 different widths of pre finished hardwood 2 1/2 in., 3 1/2 in. & 4 1/2 in. It looked great afterwards but took quite awhile.
Please tell Granpa that his floor is the most beautiful work of art that I've ever seen! Whenever he started to cry, I started balling my eyes out! There's no better gift than tike out of your day doing something for someone else. Your Granpa is such a sweet and strong man! I wish I had a Granpa growing up. And a father to teach me things. I've had to learn everything on my own which is okay too! I love who I've become. I just really enjoy seeing your family business and following along. It means a lot to me. More than you could ever know.
Get it Grandpa. Now you can trim that room out for your lil girl. Wonder what kind of Mantel yall will choose? I suspect there is a hardwood beam covered up somewhere. 💪
Glad Grandpa can give his daughter a Christmas present she wants! (Also glad to see Grandpa has a helper; that’s a lot of work for an older gentleman!). Beautiful looking floor (although I wonder about some of the gaps; not trying to be critical but just saying). I noticed the floor was down for Thanksgiving in the dining room & it looked great; glad to see a video posted about laying it! Grandpa said he’d redo some of the lathe & plaster behind the china hutch; we’ve seen what good work he does on that! I’d be interested in seeing how opening up the wall into the kitchen with a bar is done & the final result. I think it will be amazing! Anyway, good work Grandpa & thanks for bringing us along! Thanks LCLY for videoing it! Take care!
I would like to see the opening up of the wall into the Kitchen as well. Are you planning to change the kitchen? Maybe use some cherry for the kitchen cabinets.
I’m pretty sure it’s better to use a piece of 2X4 to hold against the wood being hammered into place rather than possibly damaging the tongue or groove by hitting the hardwood directly. Looks good otherwise.
Grandpa is one hardworking dude. He is building you a shack & installing hardwood floors, among other things. Hope you appreciate him every day. 😇

Grandpa is a Rockstar! Glad to see him be such a big part of your lives! Cherish the education you get from him!
Grandpa is doing an awesome job.Looks beautiful
You go, Grandpa!! I'm 85 and still doing!! Nice floor.

I did a whole floor without one of those staplers, on bare joists. It was tough but I survived. The floor almost did not. Grandpa is a treasure!
Not all families are so blessed to have a grandpa that's worth his weight every step of the way. You amaze me every time. May this Christmas be a special blessing for the whole family. Greetings and best wishes from South Africa.
Thankful to see a grandpa that loves his family.

I installed mine years ago no experience at all came out perfect pretty straight forward

Love your channel, but installing the the floor had a problem. You should not hammer directly to the panel, but use a scrap wood cut from the panel to hammer it tight
The mallet head is non/ marring designed for striking hardwood. Occasionally I do use a block of wood on tight joints. GP
Ty😊😊😊😊😊
What are you putting down on the floor red sandalwood?

Beautiful flooring by an amazing grandpa!
Aces!❤❤❤😊😊😊
Looks great, I’d just put clear coat on it! I would not stain that!
That already has the finish on it. Nothing more to do.
That’s oak right?
Grampa don't get his bowl of grits unless he puts in a good days work!😆👍
adding felt under layment prevents wood on wood floor squeaks [ like a duck call ]
Grandpa working hard, needs to put them girls to work 😊

I do on stubborn joints GP
Can i help you
Used to do this without the pneumatic nailer...tough work! But oh so worth it in the end...
Hi Grandpa!
❤😊
"How hard is it to install your own floor?" Much harder than paying someone who actually knows what they're doing to install it for me.
