Chevelle is by FAR the best alternative band still playing. In Atlanta, I miss my GOOD alternative music. To hell with all this hipster shit. Give me chevelle back on the radio in Atlanta!
I'm not sure where I fall on this kind of thing. On one hand, I think it's foolish to have such unconditional loyalty, but I also think hating a band just because they aren't how they were on their first album is also unfair. Hmmmm
I don't think they've changed as much as everyone seems to think. If anything, they are evolving. For better or worse, ill probably love it. Ive enjoyed all of the last 6 albums
Adam McCann I feel their songwriting structure is similar but they always seem to make an effort to make things distinct. They know what style they like, but they don't want to rehash the same thing every time.
Vena sera was an incredible album!! I really can't see how any hard rock fan could not appreciate that album. Songs like the fad, midnight to midnight, well enough alone/ every other track are the epitome of great songwriting. There's not one filler. I guess you either get it or you don't.
The band actually manages its own facebook page. And after hearing so much demand for a heavier album, they are more than leaning onto this idea for this album "La Gargola" and making it heavier. With that being said, I can't wait. I'm buying ASAP. KEEP ROCKING CHEVELLE!
That's one thing I love about Chevelle. They actually talk to their fans via Facebook and Instagram. I have gotten many replies from Sammy and Pete. The guys are awesome!
I really like the move from heavily produced sounding rock to something a bit more classic and raw. It sounds like a band that is willing to experiment and have fun with the sounds they make, and I think it sounds more genuine. Awesome song
For those of us who listen to everything from Point #1 and The Basement Tapes to now, it's amazing to see how much they have evolved as a band and how this song has a Vena Sera feel to it. What's even more amazing is that every song off every album is great including the bonus tracks and covers they have. Not to mention how in person they sound even better!
Anyone who says they can't understand the lyrics... read them a few times... it comes around... just takes actual thought. I don't mean that in a bad way, but Chevelle lyrics have never been dumbed down for the masses
I get the Tool comparisons, but come on. There's a lot more to the track, love the sound these guys went for here! I just reviewed Chevelle's new album "La Gargola" on my channel. Check it out, would love to hear what everyone else is thinking about what they did with their sound.
personally i find chevelle VERY predictable, but good. They make a lot of tracks to rock out to, but their music isn't something I can get lost in or that would change my perspective on things
I don't get the Tool comparisons and never have.. Maybe it's because I'm a Tool Head..but I think people who constantly compare shit are retards anyway.
I gotta admit, I heard the second half of this song on the radio and thought I might have missed the Tool release, cause who knows with those guys... Back in the 90s music like this was the norm on the radio. Chevelle definitely isn't radio any more. This song is awesome btw. As usual vocals and guitar are top notch.
I heard this song on the radio today whilst on the way to get a much needed haircut. Good song. Not much into alternative metal, but I'm going to have sample this CD once it's release in April.
Rob, If you have really never listened to Chevelle, you are missing out. For a Christian rock band, these guys are amazing and one of my favorite bands of all time. Check out some earlier stuff from this band, its just as good... Chevelle is one of the few bands that have several hit songs. I like almost every song they do, which is rare. David Ullery Jr Thank U 4 the info. Actually no, I had never heard of Chevelle B 4 the other day whilst on my why 2 get a haircut. I was flipping the radio dial & happened upon 95.7 The X (www.957thex.com) in Knoxvlle, TN and heard this song on that station. Later that morning, I went 2 their web site & searched their play list 4 that morning & found it.
David Ullery Jr Not that there's anything wrong with Christian rock, but Chevelle isn't a Christian rock band. The confusion came because they initially signed with a Christian label. They've made a point to keep religion out of their music. So we don't worry about being "preached to".
I've been a huge Chevelle fan since the beginning. I've seen them 3 times and they always impress. Love the harder edge to this song and definitely hear the Tool influences, especially the drums and riffs. Great song Chevelle!
I listen to this every morning before bed. This is so far my most anticipated album of 2014, and there's about a dozen on my list. Cannot wait for April 1!!
The only think that was different sometime was on Point#1 and a little bit on Wonder What's Next. From This Type of Thinking onward their sound has been pretty much like this.
Fabricio Melo To me, it sounds like a cross between Hats Off to the Bull and Vena Sera, which I still consider older stuff. I felt like Hats was actually really different from all of their previous albums, but that's just me...
As someone who has listened to a shit ton of Tool (the entire discography, demos, live recordings and shows), I barely notice the resemblance everyone keeps raving on about.
omg i cant wait for the new album. anyone that says: chevelle is just whatever, from what they heard on the radio, you should listen to all the other songs. they are just amazing and in my top 3 favorite bands of all time!
For all of you ragging on this, I say this to you. As a musician, and a Chevelle fan since the inception of the band(read, my parents bought me their first album for my birthday in a group of cds, when I was like 12), this has been my favorite band since two days after "Point #1". The evolution of this band has not been dramatic until "Vena Sera". Chevelle has been a constant tweaking of a specific sound. Songs have gotten better. The bringing in of Dean on bass REALLY helped mature the drum lines, rhythmically and tonally. Lyrically, they have gotten more sarcastic and deeper in my opinion. It truly is not accurate to say this band has ever been stagnant in any way, shape or form. All Chevelle has done FOR YEARS is hone their own sound, and with "Vena Sera", we finally heard the last "click" of everything falling into place. This song is impeccable, showing new percussion sounds, the same impeccable guitar tones that we have come to know and love, a solid low-end and driving drums, paired with soaring vocals, a catchy hook, and very solid lyrics. If you don't like it, that's fine, but as someone who has been standing with this band since literally 2 days after the first release (and a musician), this is just the next step in the Chevelle progression. It might not be a HUGE change by any means, but it fits the already proven Chevelle formula, and damn well. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
All I hear is great music. They're consistently putting out classic albums. What does it take for a living legend to earn respect? They have to die! Someone has to die in the band in order for you to realize they are legend. I know they're classic now, and I am glad this is our generation. Cheers.
First off I love this band. I've listened to them ever since Wonder What's Next came out. I love their new sound as well...but where are people getting this "they sound more like Tool" from? I'm a die hard Tool fan as well but I don't see it. As a guitar and bass player from experience...Tool is a hell of a lot harder to play with the amount of different time signatures each band member has as well as a lot more notes, they're heavier, faster, and Maynard James Keenan sounds nothing like Pete Loeffler...maybe a little tiny bit but that's it.
I agree with literally everything you said, except I didn't listen to Chevelle until maybe a few years ago. They really don't sound anything like Tool. Having pretty heavy distorted guitars and a relatively high pitched voice for a man doesn't mean they sound the same. A little tiny bit similar but that's about it. The actual styles of playing are very different.
Classic Chevelle. Can't wait for the album to drop. How these guys are not the biggest band in the world yet is beyond me. Great albums but even better live
nate smith I heard this song on the radio the other day, and my first thought was like WTF IS THIS NEW TOOL?!?!?!?!?! And then I was like no that's not Maynard. Then I put 2 and 2 together and got Chevelle.
New Chevelle. SICK. It's got a heavy sound to it I'm digging it. Will clearly pick it up like all Chevelle's stuff, such a great unique sounding band and only 3 (family) members makes them that much more amazing.
The darkness that was felt in their album point 1, with the heaviness of vena sera, Chevelle has beautifully learnt to amalgamate their styles, hence 'take out the gunman' and their new album is much awaited. Let their be more albums like this with a free flow distortion.
i mean you honestly can't rightfully judge a band on just one song, just like how you can't judge how the album will be from the singles released. i personally am very excited about the new album. bring on the new stuff. this may not be their best work, but i can appreciate a band that is continually growing, evolving and pushing themselves into new territories. and that's what i love about Chevelle
I don't think they are trying to sound like Tool here. I think they just progressed over the years to a level where they are falling into this groove naturally. They only recently even started this sound and the only way to describe it is progression from their original sound.
Jameel Aboulhosn I think I would have to agree with you, Sir. Fist thing I thought of was how much these guys must respect MJK, Danny, etal................
Jameel Aboulhosn Sir, I don't know if this will work or not; here, try this Link: vimeo.com/132128450 I'm making my 2nd Documentary on Bonnie and Clyde and for the fun of it I did a little Video to Take Out the Gunman........have been in Entertainment/Radio/Television over 40+years and this turned out to be quite good I thought. Builds w/the music and is almost Violent by the end of the video itself. Maybe if you have time to look at it you could let me know what you think, I'm open to constructive criticism. Pass around if you think it's worthwhile, Sir.
One of my TOP 5 fav bands! and reading all the other posts, chevelle and tool each have their own unique sound, i cant hear the comparison!! they both are great, thats all i can compare
Apparently Chevelle has been compared to Tool in the past, but I guess I never heard it until this song. Listen to some tool and come back to this, very similar - and I fucking love it!
actually, for once, the lyrics make a LOT of sense. read em. it's about a civilian killing a lone shooter. it's obviously a response to all of the shootings that have been happening recently in the US. not sure how political it is, but the speaker is "summoning every nerve" to "take out the gunman" and he can't believe "how it was televised" makes sense if you don't overthink it. LOVE IT!!!! (superhappygayvoice)... *cough cough*... ugh *eh hum* sorry i mean, yeah great song
Nathan Stephenson Damn, that actually cleared it up for me. "Just need a bit of luck" to "point the gun between the eyes" in the middle of a "blinding riot" (people running like mad away from a shooter) Can't wait to see the video.
Not sure what the problem is here. Chevelle is a radio-rock band, yes, one of the few I like, but for better or worse their style has always been consistent and this fits right in as well. It's not really random, noisy, or whatever else other commenters are saying. It's typical Chevelle and it's good like Chevelle typically is.
I'm glad that Chevelle went moderately heavy again! I've been waiting for it since Vera Sena! The music is ace, but like always, the lyrics make no sense. lol.
This song seems to be saying something about the media ("Just need a bit of the camera..."; "I'm so amazed at the way we televise...") If I had to guess, this is about people who do something drastic (such as murder or other such violent acts) just to get on the news, and Pete is showing disdain for them, saying he is going to take them out. Hope that helps!
Awoke when the light Hit me right in the temple Felt something cold Touch my toes as it passed Might not be, the face you’d expect But he’s clearly insane Got me pegged in the back Just need a bit of luck, get 'em up Point the gun at the eyes Or at the knees, had to shoot, had to fight Gonna take out the gunman Bit of luck, get 'em up Made to run for our lives Take out the knees, had to choose, had to fight Gonna take out the gunman Eyes huge, so little left if something Cracks and clues, he’s crazy as a straw Why denied, does no one care or nothing? How, you ask, I ever last so long Cause I, I went blind, a blinding riot He’s regretting every word Those empty lies One more tonight, a blinding riot As I summon every nerve Just need a bit of luck, get 'em up Point the gun at the eyes Or at the knees, had to shoot, had to fight Gonna take out the gunman Bit of luck, get 'em up Made to run for our lives Take out the knees, had to choose, had to fight Gonna take out the gunman Gonna take out the gunman Gonna take out the gunman I’m gonna take out I’m gonna take out I’m gonna take out Oh, I’m gonna take out Just need a bit of luck, get 'em up Point the gun at the eyes Or at the knees, had to shoot, had to fight Gonna take out the gunman Bit of luck, get 'em up Made to run for our lives I’m so amazed at the way we televise Gonna take out the gunman Gonna take out the gunman I’m gonna take out the gunman I’m gonna take out the gunman facebook.com/lvngubrthlss
Anthony Morrison So your telling me that you have room to talk? your probably someone that makes minimum wage at McDonalds and can't make a quarter of what Chevelle makes right? Oh and on top of that i think its funny that you say the things you do. After all in the end your the fool, you did listen to the song and comment on a band YOU don't like. :) youre some kind of special you know that haha
The government is trillions in debt, stole the native american way of life, invaded Iraq for oil, exploits its citizens for profit, manufactures synthetic medicines and outlaws the natural medicines, is trying to take away our constitutional rights, is poisoning us, and the list goes on. Why shouldn't we "take out the gunman"?
These tool comments are kinda pissing me off. Chevelle is a different band from tool. Tool is heavier on lyrics and is more of an art-rock band. Chevelle sounds similar, but is definitively harder and more radio-oriented. I heard Chevelle on a local radio station before i had ever even heard of tool. i saw all the tool comments on Chevelle youtube videos, and decided to look them up. I can honestly say that Chevelle is a better band in my opinion inb4 hate comments
I enjoy Chevelle a lot, and yes they have a very different style from Tool. With that said though comparing Chevelle to Tool is like comparing a great high school football team to super bowl champs. I',m sure being fans themselves even Chevelle would admit they aren't even in the same galaxy as Tool.
Anthony Morrison Well everybody is entitled to their own musical preferences', and I don't hate Chevelle. When you start comparing them though based on musical talent rather than purely just taste the conversation gets a bit silly. Tool are a once in a lifetime band. Musical genius. The album Lateralus is a modern masterpiece, along with their whole catalog their music is just purely on another level. Again I can understand somebody liking Chevelle more than Tool, just like I can understand somebody liking a Tyler Perry movie more than 12 Years A Slave. Taste is subjective. Facts are facts though. Whether you like a Tyler Perry movie more than 12 Years A Slave, or a silly sitcom more than Mad Men, or Chevelle more than Tool doesn't really matter. Mad Men is better than Glee, 12 Years A Slave is better than Madea Goes To Jail, and Noah's Ark is a made up story, and Tool is better than Chevelle. PS For anybody that thinks Chevelle is "Harder" for the love of god go listen to Opiate.
Dumb Sheep If you read what i said, i said tool is more lyrics focused, and opiate exactly proves my point. and you may think tool is a "once in a lifetime band" is a huge overstatement - people are saying that chevelle sounds just like them in the comments, and frankly, I dont see what is so extraordinarily special that they are in every single chevelle video i watch. as an example: IMO, avenged sevenfold sounds a lot like metallica (who i think are real musical geniuses), but i dont see metallica's name mentioned in every a7x video. I just want all the tool fanboys to leave chevelle fans to their music. Its not our fault that tool hasnt released an album in 8 years, but that doesnt mean you have to bombard chevelle videos in the meantime.
Didn't start listening to Chevelle until 2004. I don't know where the hell I was? One of my favorite bands of all time, now. Like Vitamin R, The Clincher, Emotional drought, then Shameful Metaphors... I would pay money to hear them live. Their lyric style is sparse, minimal, and profoundly intelligent. Driving percussion. They Fucking Rock!!
I'm not a die hard Chevelle fan; I like a few of their songs (Vitamin R, The Red, this one, a couple more) but what I absolutely love about this band is their distinctive sound. I adore the fact that I don't have to be their "number one fan" to be able to guess whether or not they are the band behind the song. This song is catchy, fun to listen to, has memorable lyrics, decent instrumentals, and even though it's not exactly the same as their older material, it's got the sound that loudly tells me, "we're Chevelle and we own our sound." I'll be listening to the rest of the album in the hopes that other songs on it speak as loudly to me as this one does.
Chevelle has been one of my favorites for years. I feel the aggression this song evokes, arm yourselves and take out the "crazy" idiot killing innocent people!
I've always thought there was a similarities in the two singers but in this song he really sounds like tool for sure, great tune catchy beat and sounds great with the volume jacked
Chevelle is by FAR the best alternative band still playing. In Atlanta, I miss my GOOD alternative music. To hell with all this hipster shit. Give me chevelle back on the radio in Atlanta!
Pete's scream gives me chills every time
no matter how much they've changed, i still will play this shit loud as hell because come on its Chevelle.
Amen
I'm not sure where I fall on this kind of thing. On one hand, I think it's foolish to have such unconditional loyalty, but I also think hating a band just because they aren't how they were on their first album is also unfair. Hmmmm
I don't think they've changed as much as everyone seems to think. If anything, they are evolving. For better or worse, ill probably love it. Ive enjoyed all of the last 6 albums
Tyler Johnson I agree, I think. Then again, what's the line between evolving and changing? However, they seem to be more consistent than many bands.
Adam McCann I feel their songwriting structure is similar but they always seem to make an effort to make things distinct. They know what style they like, but they don't want to rehash the same thing every time.
Just bought this album. Great stuff rightchere. Glad I checked them out thanks to some recommendations.
Ephemeral! Surprised to see you here. Good taste, man. Chevelle is great.
Better than Cher that's for sure.
Nice to see Uncle E here. Hello!
Definitely hear the Tool influence in this new song. Chevelle is my all time favorite band!
Tool baked with BUSH. It's perfect

And for me Vena Sera is one of the CheVelle albums i liked the least.
Chevelle is always on point.
I appreciate Chevelles music. With each album there's something new and amazing.

Matt Fletcher Not to mention their both 2 completely different genres.
I am fans of both bands and definitely hear the tool influence in this song.
Franny Melskid Yeah but influence is kinda different. I can hear the influence but to say they sound exactly alike? Nope.
Daniel Kanter I agree. Man I can't tell you how much I love Tool's ideologies and art work.
Ahhhhh snap!!! They're back! Been my favorite band forever.
I love chevelle, their my favorite band!
Classic Chevelle. Can't wait for the album to drop. How these guys are not the biggest band in the world yet is beyond me. Great albums but even better live
I like Tool and I like Chevelle. Win-win!
This song reminds me of Tool :)
nate smith I heard this song on the radio the other day, and my first thought was like WTF IS THIS NEW TOOL?!?!?!?!?! And then I was like no that's not Maynard. Then I put 2 and 2 together and got Chevelle.
I thought the same thing as you, I thought for sure it was new Tool.......lol
Tyler Miller sounds nothing like tool.tool is great so is chevelle. Can't compare the two.now everyone enjoy the music.
Do you have ears? They sound a lot like tool. Pete Loeffler even says so in interviews.
New Chevelle. SICK. It's got a heavy sound to it I'm digging it. Will clearly pick it up like all Chevelle's stuff, such a great unique sounding band and only 3 (family) members makes them that much more amazing.
Hats of to the Bull will be extremely hard to top but still definitely excited
The darkness that was felt in their album point 1, with the heaviness of vena sera, Chevelle has beautifully learnt to amalgamate their styles, hence 'take out the gunman' and their new album is much awaited. Let their be more albums like this with a free flow distortion.
I sense the idea that some individuals think that "sounding like Tool" is an insult. This prospect baffles me.
Khorne no doubt eh? I was just having this conversation with someone who had the mindset.. "oh they are just copying tool"
i mean you honestly can't rightfully judge a band on just one song, just like how you can't judge how the album will be from the singles released. i personally am very excited about the new album. bring on the new stuff. this may not be their best work, but i can appreciate a band that is continually growing, evolving and pushing themselves into new territories. and that's what i love about Chevelle
I don't think they are trying to sound like Tool here. I think they just progressed over the years to a level where they are falling into this groove naturally. They only recently even started this sound and the only way to describe it is progression from their original sound.
Nibbly Nobbler True but even on sci-fi crimes they had noticeable parallels in their lyric writing, if nothing else.
Jameel Aboulhosn I think I would have to agree with you, Sir. Fist thing I thought of was how much these guys must respect MJK, Danny, etal................
Rex Allison ooppppsss, meant to say First.........some kinda glitch or something.......pretty funny
Agreed.
Jameel Aboulhosn Sir, I don't know if this will work or not; here, try this Link: vimeo.com/132128450
I'm making my 2nd Documentary on Bonnie and Clyde and for the fun of it I did a little Video to Take Out the Gunman........have been in Entertainment/Radio/Television over 40+years and this turned out to be quite good I thought.
Different but I like it.
Well Done Chevelle.....Eargasm
"Just need a bit of luck" to "point the gun between the eyes" in the middle of a "blinding riot" (people running like mad away from a shooter)
Can't wait to see the video.
Well that makes more sense. Thanks!
Just listen carefully then think critically. And you'll get the rest of their lyrics too!
New favourite song
If Tool and Filter have a baby than Chevelle will be it
Yeah I heard it today and thought it was a new tool song lol
I I chill man Lmao
This song made me realize that nearly two decades later.
Oh another filter fan, how unusual.
I love the cover art for the album. It feels very.....Chevelle.
Thumbs up for whoever made that.
It's just for the single. They haven't announced the album art yet.
Oh ok, too bad though.
it's deans art
Awoke when the light
Hit me right in the temple
Felt something cold
Touch my toes as it passed
Might not be, the face you’d expect
But he’s clearly insane
Got me pegged in the back
Just need a bit of luck, get 'em up
Point the gun at the eyes
Or at the knees, had to shoot, had to fight
Gonna take out the gunman
Bit of luck, get 'em up
Made to run for our lives
Take out the knees, had to choose, had to fight
Gonna take out the gunman
Eyes huge, so little left if something
Cracks and clues, he’s crazy as a straw
Why denied, does no one care or nothing?
How, you ask, I ever last so long
Cause I, I went blind, a blinding riot
He’s regretting every word
Those empty lies
One more tonight, a blinding riot
As I summon every nerve
Just need a bit of luck, get 'em up
Point the gun at the eyes
Or at the knees, had to shoot, had to fight
Gonna take out the gunman
Bit of luck, get 'em up
Made to run for our lives
Take out the knees, had to choose, had to fight
Gonna take out the gunman
Gonna take out the gunman
Gonna take out the gunman
I’m gonna take out
I’m gonna take out
I’m gonna take out
Oh, I’m gonna take out
Just need a bit of luck, get 'em up
Point the gun at the eyes
Or at the knees, had to shoot, had to fight
Gonna take out the gunman
Bit of luck, get 'em up
Made to run for our lives
I’m so amazed at the way we televise
Gonna take out the gunman
Gonna take out the gunman
I’m gonna take out the gunman
I’m gonna take out the gunman

Chevelle is nothing but wicked.......even better L I V E ..omg I love this tune
Song has a tool vibe to it love it
right guess if tool is never gona do shit again this will work
***** Tool is almost finished with their new album. Which means it may be out be 2020. But still, they're doing something.
The Rider Right, it's almost like Guns & Roses with Tool. It took Guns & Roses 13 years to release an album. Wonder if Tool will do the same thing.
Anthony Morrison chevelle ain't garbage !
Chevelle...!! The best band to come out since Tool!
Anyone notice a sprinkle of Tool?
It has the groove from "Hats Off To The Bull", and the massive steel balls from "Wonder What's Next". I love this
Needs more cowbell!
Just one of many masterpieces to come. La Gargola is gonna be a sick album.
"Take out the government!"
Been a huge Chevelle fan since the start! I'm so glad the new album is on the way!
It's great to know real music hasn't died.
That's the most generic thing I've ever read. What does that even mean?
The song sounds like it should end around 2:30, but then inexplicably rocks on for another two whole minutes. And I love it.
Chevelle jams...great song!
I can honestly say that Chevelle is a better band in my opinion
inb4 hate comments
i agree dude. and i like tool as well.
Dumb Sheep
If you read what i said, i said tool is more lyrics focused, and opiate exactly proves my point. and you may think tool is a "once in a lifetime band" is a huge overstatement - people are saying that chevelle sounds just like them in the comments, and frankly, I dont see what is so extraordinarily special that they are in every single chevelle video i watch. as an example: IMO, avenged sevenfold sounds a lot like metallica (who i think are real musical geniuses), but i dont see metallica's name mentioned in every a7x video. I just want all the tool fanboys to leave chevelle fans to their music. Its not our fault that tool hasnt released an album in 8 years, but that doesnt mean you have to bombard chevelle videos in the meantime.
Actually Tool is more heavier on instruments while A Perfect Circle is more heavier on lyrics.
That there is an opening hook of the first order.
This song is catchy, fun to listen to, has memorable lyrics, decent instrumentals, and even though it's not exactly the same as their older material, it's got the sound that loudly tells me, "we're Chevelle and we own our sound." I'll be listening to the rest of the album in the hopes that other songs on it speak as loudly to me as this one does.
speed 1.25 = amazing
One of the 7 songs I love.
this is the jam 🤘but you must hear “Seen/Unseen” by SLT 🎸
I got a fever!! And the only prescription is more cowbell!!
Why are people arguing the top comment and not this one?
I fucking really like this song. Almost thought it was Maynard the first time I heard this on the radio. That's a HUGE compliment.
Album release is April 2. The whole April 1st thing is an April fools prank..;D
I'm so happy to see another album out!! I honestly don't know how someone could not like Chevelle.
Chevelle has been one of my favorites for years. I feel the aggression this song evokes, arm yourselves and take out the "crazy" idiot killing innocent people!
I am so excited for this album to drop. A good preview on what's to come!
I think of this song when I play call of duty black ops 1.
Fucking fantastic!!! Can't wait to hear what else Chevelle has for us.
Sounds like a Randy Orton theme.
I've always thought there was a similarities in the two singers but in this song he really sounds like tool for sure, great tune catchy beat and sounds great with the volume jacked
