That's Jemima Puddleduck from the Tales of Beatrix Potter. You have to see the show because if you think the duck is cute, wait until you see the fox and the dancing frog! Oh, and the mice - how could I forget the mice?!
My favorite part is I he Pigling Bland Pigwig pas de deux. . OMG Josephine you must have this for your new little guy to play on endless repeat. So much better than annoying cartoons.
I never understood the "no looking at the clock" thing. If we can't look at it, remove it. Knowing how much time is left in a class helps me mentally get through tough moments because even if I am in pain, I can see that it is only for so much longer. Then I can better focus on my dancing.
I desperately need to know if Josephine has ever seen or been told about the Canadian kid's show The Toy Castle where the toys come to life and just dance ballet throughout the episodes. I need her reaction for that lol
My ballet class experience is not at all like that girl's. We talk a lot, but we were told to be quiet and you are expected to be calm and respectful. If your teacher catches you looking at the clock, they may make a comment, but you won't be kicked out of class!!
I would love for Josephine to react to that ballet with the girls from Ballet Reign... Or pretty much any collab video with them would be adorable, imo.
I look at the clock because I have severe ocd and am worried about experiencing the passage of time correctly. By that I mean my brain is like “it feels like it’s been 20 minutes you should check to see if I am right or else something is wrong” but it never elaborates on “wrong.”
So my current dance school (i am a pre-professional dancer and student teacher for baby ballet) we are allowed to quietly chat as long as it is not disruptive. It’s not necessarily encouraged but we don’t get punished for doing so. 😊❤
Yes my husband had natural turnout of OVER 180 he could do a tight5th no training at all 😭 I worked sooo hard to get 160/170 but he was like oh like this? Reminds me of a Mr Rogers doing ballet!
The last ballet class I went to, I was probably 6. The teachers were absolutely rule oriented (no clocks, no interrupting, no talking), and I was very anxious, so I would never have broken those rules. One day I had to use the bathroom terribly badly, but I was afraid to ask. So I wet myself in the class. That was the last time I ever did ballet.
I worry about all those subtle unspoken (culture based) rules. My son is autistic but is in dance classes. These kinds of things are the kinds of things that make is difficult for them (autistic individuals, not simply boys) to do well in large part because of the unspoken.
I am a ballet teacher and have been for over 20 years. The first class of the year, I sit all my dancers down and we go over the rules. If I get a new student a few weeks in, I will go over the rules at a different time w/them.

I’m quite certain if your son isn’t taking classes at a professional school the rules aren’t as rigid… Also, try looking for a studio that offers adaptive environments…
"Ballet Reign" 's channel has an entire video on the Jemima Puddleduck ballet ("The Tales of Beatrix Potter"), which is unbelievably adorable! I mean the ballet as well as the channel! I would attach the link if I could ... Thank you for the video! 🙏💜🦆
This wasn't too cringe -making, but I did love "Ballerinas in the wild". Love the fitting videos. I like to learn from Josephine and the dancers she fits.
I was 6 or so in the early sixties. I had a ballet instructor who would make us jump straight up and swing his cane under us. If we didn’t jump high enough we would go home with sore ankles. I never tried any kind of dance again.
The duck is jemima puddleduck from the tales of beatrix potter ballet, i had it on dvd as a kid and it inspired a love of ballet and the music, i still know half the music and odd bits of the coreography becaue my gran would put it on th tv and 3 year old me would dance around infont of the tv trying to copy the dancers, it's one of my comfort watches.
I love the Beatrix Potter ballet. I watched it when I was a kid in the 90's not long after I got my first pointe shoes, my teacher suggested it to us. I watched the royal ballet company do it they were amazing ❤ I would of loved to have been apart of the royal ballet but I quit after 14 years of dancing of classical ballet one of my biggest regrets.
I have not experienced such strictness in ballet classes, however none of the many studios I have danced in over the years were part of a major ballet school. I do sometimes wish that stricter standards were the norm now, but I wonder how that would affect student retention in smaller studios.
She trained Vaganova method in Russia. The more relaxed classes in schools seem to be doing just fine themselves (look at MBA) because they're strict when they need to be but they don't deprive.
Ballet classes are definitely still ran like that. Frequently I’ll see some girls sitting outside the room when I go to check on my 8 year old at dance.
at my studio its more lax than that. You aren't allowed to check time but u can look at the teacher and you can talk (its just highly discouraged) just not while the teacher is explaining a combination
My teachers are always getting on me about my face in class but always complementing my face in shows and it’s kinda annoying I have literally had teachers make us watch back our performances and use me as a example of what our faces should look like and point out another student with what our faces shouldn’t look like as we are going through picking apart our performance then probably 5 minutes later when we are practicing the parts that had mistakes and get on me about my face and use me as a example of how not to look. I’ve been performing for longer than I can even remember
It always blows my mind the amount of scandalized people in the comments everytime Lori Hernández posts a short about "ballet class rules". They are nothing but basic manners as a student of whatever, respect and attention to the teacher, discipline, etiquete. Your nods were truly balsamic, Josephine🖤
Just curious…how did you feel about Biden continuously checking his watch when those dead soldiers were returned home? If you were say… getting married, and your best man/maid of honor kept looking at the clock during the ceremony…would you think…”oh, they’re just checking the time”, or do think you might feel as though they had somewhere else they’d rather be?
And if the girls in question have to know the time because they have to leave early for an appointment is that still considered disrespect and rudeness?
@littleredbender that sounds about right. Ballet teachers going on severe power trips to the point that they won't allow students to leave to go to a doctors appointment or to have a breather if they're having a panic attack etc.
I had one teacher who didn't want us to look at him while he was telling us the combination *verbally* behind us. He would say things like, "outside foot away from the bar" & get mad when I looked at him. Umm, I am severely hearing impaired, I need to lip read & also is that a tendu or battement or what???
Id love to know more about TOE PADS! I’ve tried every toe pad known to man- including PerfectFit. I had such high hopes for Perfect fit because I thought- “Oooh! It molds to my toes and will feel like a 360 degree cushion!” I was so disappointed to find that the Perfectfit material felt hard and scratchy instead of spongy. I do love my pads that are at least 1/4 inches thick consisting of spongy, rubbery synthetic material. They protect me from pokes and from pressure. They keep my toes and bunions extra cushy (but still hurtsl after a while. I wonder if any toe pads really keep the feet from hurting, or it they all just HURT no matter what? Ouch Piuches feel like I’m wearing absolutely zero to cushion my feet and the tips of my toes. What I’m really looking for is a pillowy, squishy soft surrounding for my ties and wings. Why aren’t these being manufactured? I’m interested in what others think. What do you see in your stores? Thank!
Just found out about Act’ble. And I want to know about how y’all think about it. There aren’t many videos of people trying them or dancing in them. They’re apparently 3D printed and you can alter them.. Any thoughts?
The rules in class sound pretty standard, at least for more "serious" classically focused schools. The looking at the clock thing bothers me though. I find it helpful to know how much of class has passed so that I can pace myself appropriately, especially in classes that are difficult/high level. Of course it is rude to be looking at the clock all the time, but I really didn't like it when my school took the clocks out of the studios.
Small request…the funny little comments written on the screen that give the viewers a little more insight to things? Can they be kept up for longer than 1 second? I always end up having to watch it back and pause it (like to read about the Gaynor Minden being synthetic). I’m a huge fan of all the Pointe Shop videos but don’t have a dance background so that stuff is fun to learn about - especially if I can read it in real time without having to backtrack and pause.
0:29 i know someone who can do 270 degrees in first position. Im a dancer and the best i can do is like this dad. And the only impressive fake turn out i can do is 270 degrees in second position in plie and wide forth position in plie (back leg doing full 180 and front leg 90 degrees)
My ballet mistress was also very strict about not allowing any Tylenol, aspirin, or any pain product. She said it would mask the pain and lead to injury. Also, no fluid. If your mouth was dry, she kept a supply of lemon drops.
Oh my god, I feel like the lemon drops would make things so much worse. I can understand not wanting water in the studio to avoid spillage on the floors, but then schedule a 2min break between barre and floor or something, for people to go have a drink just outside.
I wish the teachers in some of my daughter's class would kick the talkers out. It's very distracting for her and they cant learn as much because the talkers dont listen and so everything has to be repeated. At her ballet school though her teacher does not allow much talking.

It's an Ashton ballet. The Royal Ballet also produced it for film back in the day, so there's a DVD.
I HAVE to see this!
The mice section is my favorite part. Love that ballet and it is so impressive cuz it sounds so hard to dance in huge animal costumes
I loved these stories (books and animation) as a kid. Peter Rabbit was one of my favourites.
My favorite part is I he Pigling Bland Pigwig pas de deux. . OMG Josephine you must have this for your new little guy to play on endless repeat. So much better than annoying cartoons.
Yaassss Jemimah Puddleduck from Ashton's Tales of Beatrix Potter ballet.

A lot of places do.
Petition for Josephine to watch the entire Tales of Beatrix Potter ballet and film a reaction!!!
Just when I need a video, you post. I’ve been chronically ill and depressed all year. Thank you, you’ve temporarily made me forget
Im also chronically ill n know how hard it can be. know you're not alone 💗 I hope n pray things will be easier n brighter for you soon! 💗🙏🌸
Ditto…never healthy but disabled now for over 20 years. Bed bound for around 7. So tired of my ceiling! These videos really help!

We know it’s gonna be a good day way The Pointe Shop uploads.
3:40 Jemima Puddle Duck! I’m currently knitting a stuffed one for Ballet Reign as I watch ❤
3:38 Thats jemimah padlduck from the beatrix potter ballet, its really gorgeous!!

I look at the mirror's reflection to see the clock lmaoo
I am pretty sure the pointe shoes were dyed yellow and the dancer wasn't wearing the tights over them lol. At least, I sure the eff hope so.
They were. If you look closely, you can see her ribbons.
Yes my husband had natural turnout of OVER 180 he could do a tight5th no training at all 😭 I worked sooo hard to get 160/170 but he was like oh like this? Reminds me of a Mr Rogers doing ballet!
one time I danced on pointe in a fleece footed onsie and it was surprisingly not slippery and I never felt more stable lol
Fleece being synthetic, I could totally see how it would be very sticky on certain floors !
I LOVE U JOSOPHINEEE U HELPED ME SMM ON MY BALLET JOURNEY WIGH UR TIPS!!! ♥️♥️♥️
3:38 ok but now I wanna see a bunch of fursuiters _en pointe_ at a convention. XD That would actually be amazing, haha
As much as I like your TikTok reactions, I would really love to see more pointe shoe fittings again!

I’m over it 🥰. I run my own arts council theater and gallery now. And support artists and students so they can thrive, be happy and share their joy 🤩
the duck is from the royal ballet production of the tales of beatrix potter and her name is Jemima!
I cna only imagine how hot that person was in the goose costume.
After the not looking at the clock one I have learned that I would have been too ADHD for ballet anyway.
