My son (3,5yo) only says go and no. No humming, no singing, he is just always silent. However, 2 weeks ago he ran up to me with a strawberry in his hands, pointed at it and said happily "mom, strawberry" and then ran away. I was in shock and like what just happened?! He doesn't even like strawberry 😂
But that was it, haven't heard him since then but I am still so happy about it.

Way to go Jacob. I am so happy for you guys! My 3 years old son has also been saying two functional words since last week ('please' and 'finished' ). He has about 15-20 nonfunctional words. Can't wait for him to talk to me in anyway .

I work with children with autism that are non verbal over the last couple of months I have been working with a 11 year old boy and one of the ways I managed to get him to start talking is by before I try to get him to talk I would say the words "harry (his name) says" and then the word I/ he wanted him to learnt I honestly didnt think it was going to work but it has worked amazingly harry can now say hello, harry (his name), and help and bye bye I know your boy is diffrent but he is a very clever little boy and I think he will be able to pick it up quiet quickly 😊

Just as a side note my son keeps his sensory toys in his dino pack to help him calm himself if we are out. It's his lil bug out bag...it has saved my sanity on more occasions than I like to think about... 😊 No judgement here at all...we are all doin the best we can with what we know/have at the time. That's great news about Jacob talking. It may only be a few words at the moment, but these little things are so important. And if you don't mind, may I offer a suggestion to think about Jacob doing music therapy considering his interest in music and singing? (I'm a music therapist so I know how helpful it can be for children on the spectrum). And I feel your anxiety about Jacob running away; we had a similar incident with our 3 year old on the weekend and it was so scary. And the mum guilt afterwards is so real.

@@aussieautismfamily yep, working mostly with disabled adults but also with children too. I know I'm probably biased but, yes, please consider it for Jacob. It's can work so well for kids on the Spectrum, and the best part is you can use your NDIS funding.

I’m so glad I found your channel! We noticed slight things my 2 year old would do back in June and even though he started talking and gesturing his speech only started declining and we went to our GP who referred us to a specialist which the wait was too long then my son got really sick and we thought there was something more sinister going on in his brain. After an MRI, spinal tap and blood tests they found nothing serious but did diagnose him as being on the spectrum. It was so quick and the hospital put us directly in contact with a social worker who advocates for us through the NDIS. We cannot believe how lucky we got to get in so quick and we’re starting our first appointment with the OT (we just for discharged from the hospital last week). My son is doing much better but seriously so thankful to find your channel! Just subscribed!

Early intervention is so important. I’m sure you’ll see huge improvements after seeing the OT for a while. Our son was non-verbal but after two years (he’s 6 now) at the OT and Speechie he’s speaking!
