I have the old 22 liter version and it works fine with an almost twice as large tripod. :-) Some of us don't want to bring a ton of lenses just because we want to carry a sturdy tripod. This is often a problem, because generally bags that can support a large tripod are too...large! And then you end up "having to" fill the bag with stuff you actually don't need, just because there is room for it.
I suppose the new one has a camera department about as large as the old one, and I can easily fit my GFX 50R with GF30, 45 or 63 attached and one of the same lenses beside it, with room for a few filters too. THE perfect bag for whenever I'm out and about and want the camera with me, but also clothes, food or anything else. It's kind of strange that there are so few other bags like this on the market.

How does it work rotating the bag to the front AND rotating back in afterwards, when there is 2kg of camera in it please? Does it slide smoothly? I have a GFX100s and GF45-100 lens (and L plate attached) I’m wanting to carry. Thanks.

@@davidevans9939 Firstly, I'm not sure that combo will fit the 22 liter version. The heaviest kit I'm putting in the bag is the 50R with 45/2.8 attached and 110/2 beside it, all in "standing" position. That would be roughly the same weight or a bit more, and while it's not perfectly smooth, it still works fine. However, the camera with 110 attached takes up the whole space in the bag alone, and an even larger lens could be too long even when lying down.
The lid with the magnetic lock is "preloaded" outwards with an internal, elastic cord that can be tightened if for some reason the waist bag is catching the lid when sliding it back in.

@@martinhertsius9282 Hi Martin, thanks very much for your reply. I suspect you are correct about the camera and lens combination not fitting, I’ll research some more. The other alternative I’ve been looking at is a Peak Design Every Day Backpack Zip 20 litre and that will probably be a safer bet. I have another Peak Design and the quality/functionality has been excellent.

@@davidevans9939 No probs! If you measure the total length of the camera with lens attached, and the front diameter of the lens (with and without reversed hood), I can estimate if it will fit based on one of my own lenses.

@@martinhertsius9282 Hi Martin, that’s really helpful, thank you.
The length is 23.5 cms (say 24 cms to be safe).
Lens diameter with hood reversed is 11 cms and without hood 8.5 cms
The camera width with L plate is 16-17 cms
The camera height with L plate is around 11.5-12 cms
I’d carry the camera lengthways with grip up and camera body to left and lens cap end to the right when the pack is rotated to the front for access.
I’d never want to pack it with the lcd down and lens facing up, not convenient for use.
As a little extra background, I have a Peak Design 10 litre Everyday Sling which is perfect for everyday, except over the past year I’ve developed neck/shoulder aches and stiffness and my wife is convinced it’s carrying the sling on one side of the neck and I think she’s right. The ache and stiffness goes if I don’t use the sling for three or so days. The sling is also no good if on rough ground or crossing streams etc. as it slips round and can easily unbalance me! For longer hikes I have another backpack that is fine.
That’s the background for my looking at a Mindshift Rotation backpack.
      Thanks again.
      David

Hi, a 1.5ltr bottle will not fit without pushing the beltpack aside and out of its chamber. So that's not nice. The biggest bottle that will fit at the side is a 700ML bottle. That way the backpack keeps its form and function.

The belt pack is not rectangular, but trapezoidal. Could you provide measurements of the inside?

This bag is a bit of a downgrade to the older version (Panorama). This could be perfect for a day hike or a mountain bike bag, but they took out the pocket for hydration reservoir. I use the older Trail 16L (discontinued) as mountain bike bag. It has a water reservoir compartment but barely fit a 2L bladder so now looking for the older panorama as it has a pocket for a 3L reservoir. I have the previous model Horizon 34L but too big for mountain biking, perfect for hiking. The bag's primary feature is perfectly suited for hiking or biking and I don't understand why Thinktank did not include the hydration compartment for this 22L newer version.

I’m curious if you succeeded in finding the older version and are happy with it. I read somewhere that the older panorama backpack shears when you put a 2liter water bladder on the side compartment.

Toss up between the 22L and 34L. Consideration; can a 70-200 lens fit in the upper compartment? Love the smaller size for urban style (going in and out of shops) but for a day hike, the 34L is more practical.

    • @martinhertsius9282

The common 70-200/2.8 lenses will easily fit the upper compartment of the 22L, but/because there is no thick lining. At least in the old version that I have. So you'd need a reasonably slim lens bag inside it if you want any protection.
You will however not be able to fit that lens mounted on the camera, in the lower compartment.

Would you say you can use this while skiing ? I like a reasonably small bag for skiing and city photography and a larger backpack for hiking /landscape photography. For skiing and city photos the rotation functionality, and the smaller pack is more important than hiking /landscape photography. You come to the conclusion it is not one bag that fits all those needs! Expensive hobby. Great review though thanks! I can’t find these bags for sale anywhere in the Netherlands yet?

At least in germany, they will be available from the 11.07.2021 onwards. I use the rotation bags for hiking and in a smaller version for biking a lot. I think biking would be similiar in use cases to skiing. I can totally recommend these bags for that (at least the old ones, as I dont have the new one yet). The bags can be used with gloves (motorbike gloves for me) without problems.

Does someone know the brand and model of the tripod he uses in the video ?
